1 Samuel 16
1 Yahvé dit à Samuel: « Jusques à quand porteras-tu le deuil de Saül, puisque je l'ai refusé comme roi d'Israël? Remplis ta corne d'huile, et pars. Je t'enverrai chez Isaï, le Bethléemite, car j'ai prévu pour moi un roi parmi ses fils. »
And YHWH said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
2 Samuel dit: « Comment puis-je y aller? Si Saül l'apprend, il me tuera. » Yahvé dit: « Prends avec toi une génisse, et dis: « Je suis venu pour offrir un sacrifice à Yahvé ».
And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he Will kill me. And YHWH said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to YHWH.
3 Appelle Jesse pour le sacrifice, et je te montrerai ce que tu dois faire. Tu oindras pour moi celui que je t'ai nommé. »
And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.
4 Samuel fit ce que Yahvé avait dit, et il arriva à Bethléem. Les anciens de la ville vinrent à sa rencontre en tremblant, et dirent: « Viens-tu paisiblement? »
And Samuel did that which YHWH spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?
5 Il dit: « En paix; je suis venu pour offrir un sacrifice à Yahvé. Sanctifiez-vous, et venez avec moi au sacrifice. » Il sanctifia Isaï et ses fils, et les appela au sacrifice.
And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto YHWH: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6 Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés, il regarda Éliab et dit: « L'oint de l'Éternel est certainement devant lui. »
And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely YHWH 's anointed is before him.
7 Mais Yahvé dit à Samuel: « Ne regarde pas son visage, ni la hauteur de sa taille, parce que je l'ai rejeté; car je ne vois pas comme l'homme voit. Car l'homme regarde l'apparence extérieure, mais Yahvé regarde le cœur. »
But YHWH said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for YHWH seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but YHWH looketh on the heart.
8 Alors Isaï appela Abinadab et le fit passer devant Samuel. Il dit: « Yahvé n'a pas non plus choisi celui-là. »
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath YHWH chosen this.
9 Et Isaï appela Shammah et le fit passer devant Samuel. Il dit: « Lui non plus, Yahvé ne l'a pas choisi. »
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath YHWH chosen this.
10 Isaï fit passer sept de ses fils devant Samuel. Samuel dit à Isaï: « Ceux-là, Yahvé ne les a pas choisis. »
Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, YHWH hath not chosen these.
11 Samuel dit à Isaï: « Tous tes enfants sont-ils là? » Il dit: « Il reste encore le plus jeune. Voici qu'il garde les brebis. » Samuel dit à Jessé: « Envoie-le chercher, car nous ne nous assiérons pas avant qu'il ne vienne ici. »
And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
12 Il l'envoya, et le fit venir. Il avait une belle peau, un beau visage et une belle apparence. Yahvé dit: « Lève-toi! Fais-lui une onction, car c'est lui. »
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And YHWH said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
13 Et Samuel prit la corne d'huile et l'oignit au milieu de ses frères. Et l'Esprit de Yahvé vint puissamment sur David à partir de ce jour-là. Et Samuel se leva et alla à Rama.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of YHWH came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
14 Or l'Esprit de Yahvé se retira de Saül, et un mauvais esprit de Yahvé le troubla.
But the Spirit of YHWH departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from YHWH troubled him.
15 Les serviteurs de Saül lui dirent: « Vois maintenant qu'un mauvais esprit de Dieu te trouble.
And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from Elohim troubleth thee.
16 Que notre seigneur ordonne maintenant à tes serviteurs qui sont devant toi de chercher un homme qui joue habilement de la harpe. Ainsi, lorsque le mauvais esprit de Dieu sera sur toi, il jouera de sa main, et tu seras guéri. »
Let ourmaster now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from Elohim is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.
17 Saül dit à ses serviteurs: « Trouvez-moi maintenant un homme qui sache bien jouer, et amenez-le-moi. »
And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.
18 Alors l'un des jeunes gens prit la parole et dit: « Voici que j'ai vu un fils d'Isaï, le Bethléhémite, qui est habile au jeu, un vaillant homme, un homme de guerre, un homme prudent en paroles, et une belle personne; et Yahvé est avec lui. »
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and YHWH is with him.
19 Saül envoya des messagers à Isaï, et dit: « Envoie-moi David, ton fils, qui est avec les brebis. »
Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.
20 Isaï prit un âne chargé de pain, un récipient de vin et un chevreau, et les envoya à Saül par David, son fils.
And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
21 David vint chez Saül et se présenta devant lui. Il l'aimait beaucoup, et il devint son porteur d'armure.
And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.
22 Saül envoya dire à Isaï: « Laisse David se présenter devant moi, car il a trouvé grâce à mes yeux. »
And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.
23 Comme l'esprit de Dieu était sur Saül, David prit la harpe et en joua de sa main; Saül se rafraîchit et se rétablit, et le mauvais esprit se retira de lui.
And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from Elohim was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
