Nehemiah 5

1 And there is a great cry of the people and their wives, concerning their brethren the Jews,

Entonces fue el clamor del pueblo y de sus mujeres grande contra los Judíos sus hermanos.

2 yea, there are who are saying, 'Our sons, and our daughters, we — are many, and we receive corn, and eat, and live.'

Y había quien decía: Nuestros hijos, y nuestras hijas, y nosotros, somos muchos: y hemos comprado grano para comer y vivir.

3 And there are who are saying, 'Our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses, we are pledging, and we receive corn for the famine.'

Y había otros que decían: Nuestras tierras, y nuestras viñas, y nuestras casas hemos empeñado, para comprar grano en la hambre.

4 And there are who are saying, 'We have borrowed money for the tribute of the king, [on] our fields, and our vineyards;

Y había otros que decían: Hemos tomado emprestado dinero para el tributo del rey sobre nuestras tierras y nuestras viñas.

5 and now, as the flesh of our brethren [is] our flesh, as their sons [are] our sons, and lo, we are subduing our sons and our daughters for servants, and there are of our daughters subdued, and our hand hath no might, and our fields and our vineyards [are] to others.'

Y ahora como la carne de nuestros hermanos es nuestra carne, como sus hijos son también nuestros hijos: y, he aquí que nosotros sujetamos nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas en servidumbre, y hay algunas de nuestras hijas sujetas, y no hay facultad en nuestras manos para rescatarlas; y nuestras tierras y nuestras viñas son de otros.

6 And it is very displeasing to me when I have heard their cry and these words,

Y enojéme en gran manera, cuando oí su clamor y estas palabras.

7 and my heart reigneth over me, and I strive with the freemen, and with the prefects, and say to them, 'Usury one upon another ye are exacting;' and I set against them a great assembly,

Y pensó mi corazón en mí, y reprendí a los principales, y a los magistrados, y díjeles: ¿Usura tomáis cada uno de vuestros hermanos? E hice contra ellos una grande junta,

8 and say to them, 'We have acquired our brethren the Jews, those sold to the nations, according to the ability that [is] in us, and ye also sell your brethren, and they have been sold to us!' and they are silent, and have not found a word.

Y díjeles: Nosotros rescatamos a nuestros hermanos Judíos, que eran vendidos a las gentes, conforme a la facultad que había en nosotros: ¿y vosotros aun vendéis a vuestros hermanos, y serán vendidos a nosotros? Y callaron, que no tuvieron que responder.

9 And I say, 'Not good [is] the thing that ye are doing; in the fear of our God do ye not walk, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

Y dije: No es bien lo que hacéis: ¿No andaréis en temor de nuestro Dios por la vergüenza de las gentes nuestras enemigas?

10 And also, I, my brethren, and my servants, are exacting of them silver and corn; let us leave off, I pray you, this usury.

Y también yo, y mis hermanos, y mis criados les habemos prestado dinero y grano: soltémosles ahora esta usura.

11 Give back, I pray you, to them, as to-day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, and the hundredth [part] of the money, and of the corn, of the new wine, and of the oil, that ye are exacting of them.'

Ruégoos que les volváis hoy sus tierras, sus viñas, sus olivares, y sus casas, y la centésima parte del dinero, y del grano, del vino, y del aceite que demandáis de ellos.

12 And they say, 'We give back, and of them we seek nothing; so we do as thou art saying.' And I call the priests, and cause them to swear to do according to this thing;

Y dijeron: Volveremos, y no les demandaremos: así haremos, como tú dices. Entonces convoqué los sacerdotes, y les juramenté que hiciesen conforme a esto.

13 also, my lap I have shaken, and I say, 'Thus doth God shake out every man, who doth not perform this thing, from his house, and from his labour; yea, thus is he shaken out and empty;' and all the assembly say, 'Amen,' and praise Jehovah; and the people do according to this thing.

Además de esto sacudí mi vestido, y dije: Así sacuda Dios de su casa y de su trabajo a todo varón que no cumpliere esto, y así sea sacudido y vacío. Y respondió toda la congregación: Amén: y alabaron a Jehová: e hizo el pueblo conforme a esto.

14 Also, from the day that he appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the thirty and second year of Artaxerxes the king — twelve years — I, and my brethren, the bread of the governor have not eaten:

También desde el día que me mandó el rey que fuese capitán de ellos en la tierra de Judá, desde el año veinte del rey Artaxerxes hasta el año treinta y dos, doce años, ni yo ni mis hermanos comimos el pan del capitán.

15 the former governors who [are] before me have made themselves heavy on the people, and take of them in bread and wine, besides in silver forty shekels; also, their servants have ruled over the people — and I have not done so, because of the fear of God.

Mas los primeros capitanes que fueron antes de mí, cargaron al pueblo, y tomaron de ellos por el pan y por el vino sobre cuarenta pesos de plata; además de esto, sus criados se enseñoreaban sobre el pueblo; mas yo no hice así a causa del temor de Dios.

16 And also, in the work of this wall I have done mightily, even a field we have not bought, and all my servants are gathered there for the work;

Además de esto, en la obra de este muro instauré mi parte, ni compramos heredad: y todos mis criados juntos estaban allí a la obra.

17 and of the Jews, and of the prefects, a hundred and fifty men, and those coming in unto us of the nations that [are] round about us, [are] at my table;

Ítem, los Judíos y los magistrados, ciento y cincuenta varones, y los que venían a nosotros de las gentes que están en nuestros al derredores, estaban a mi mesa.

18 and that which hath been prepared for one day [is] one ox, six fat sheep, also fowls have been prepared for me, and once in ten days of all wines abundantly, and with this, the bread of the governor I have not sought, for heavy is the service on this people.

Y lo que se aderezaba para cada día era un buey, y seis ovejas escogidas; y aves también se aparejaban para mí: y cada diez días vino en toda abundancia: y con todo esto nunca busqué el pan del capitán, porque la servidumbre de este pueblo era grave.

19 Remember for me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.

Acuérdate de mí para bien, Dios mío, y de todo lo que hice a este pueblo.
