< Genesis 15 >

1 After these things hath the word of Jehovah been unto Abram in a vision, saying, 'Fear not, Abram, I [am] a shield to thee, thy reward [is] exceeding great.'
Pea hili ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, naʻe haʻu ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kia ʻEpalame ʻi he meʻa hā mai ʻo pehē, “ʻOua naʻa ke manavahē ʻEpalame: ko ho ungaʻanga au, mo ho totongi lahi ʻaupito.”
2 And Abram saith, 'Lord Jehovah, what dost Thou give to me, and I am going childless? and an acquired son in my house is Demmesek Eliezer.'
Pea pehēange ʻe ʻEpalame, “E Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ko e hā te ke foaki kiate au, he ʻoku ou masiva fānau, pea ko e tauhi ʻo hoku ʻapi, ko e ʻEliesa ni ʻo Tamasikusi?”
3 And Abram saith, 'Lo, to me Thou hast not given seed, and lo, a domestic doth heir me.'
Pea pehē ʻe ʻEpalame, “Vakai, naʻe ʻikai te ke foaki kiate au ha hako; pea vakai, ko e taha naʻe fānau ʻi hoku fale, ko hoku hoko ia.”
4 And lo, the word of Jehovah [is] unto him, saying, 'This [one] doth not heir thee; but he who cometh out from thy bowels, he doth heir thee;'
Pea ʻiloange, naʻe folofola mai ʻa Sihova kiate ia, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku ʻikai ko ho hoko ia: ka ko ia ʻe tupu mei ho fatu ʻoʻou ko ho hoko ia.”
5 and He bringeth him out without, and saith, 'Look attentively, I pray thee, towards the heavens, and count the stars, if thou art able to count them;' and He saith to him, 'Thus is thy seed.'
Pea ne taki atu ia kituaʻā, ʻo ne pehē, “Hanga hake ni ki he langi, ʻo lau ʻae ngaahi fetuʻu, ʻo kapau te ke faʻa lau ia; pea ne pehē kiate ia, E tatau mo ia ho hako.”
6 And he hath believed in Jehovah, and He reckoneth it to him — righteousness.
Pea naʻe tui ia kia Sihova; pea naʻe lau ia kiate ia, ko e māʻoniʻoni.
7 And He saith unto him, 'I [am] Jehovah who brought thee out from Ur of the Chaldees, to give to thee this land to possess it;'
Pea naʻa ne pehē kiate ia, “Ko au ko Sihova, naʻaku ʻomi koe mei Ua, ʻi Kalitia, ke foaki kiate koe ʻae fonua ni, ke ke maʻu moʻou.”
8 and he saith, 'Lord Jehovah, whereby do I know that I possess it?'
Pea ne pehē ʻe ia, “E Sihova ko e ʻOtua, te u ʻilo ʻi he ha te u maʻu ia?
9 And He saith unto him, 'Take for Me a heifer of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, and a turtle-dove, and a young bird;'
Pea ne pehē kiate ia, “Toʻo mai maʻaku ʻae pulu fefine mui ʻoku tolu taʻu hono motuʻa, mo e kosi fefine ʻoku tolu taʻu hono motuʻa, mo e sipitangata ʻoku tolu taʻu hono motuʻa, mo e kulukulu mo e lupe mui.”
10 and he taketh to him all these, and separateth them in the midst, and putteth each piece over against its fellow, but the bird he hath not divided;
11 and the ravenous birds come down upon the carcases, and Abram causeth them to turn back.
Pea ʻi he lolofa mai ʻae fanga manupuna ki he ngaahi ʻangaʻanga, naʻe fakahēhē ia ʻe ʻEpalame.
12 And the sun is about to go in, and deep sleep hath fallen upon Abram, and lo, a terror of great darkness is falling upon him;
Pea ʻi he kamata tō ʻae laʻā, naʻe hoko ʻae mohe maʻu kia ʻEpalame: pea vakai naʻe tō kiate ia ʻae fuʻu manavahē ʻoe fakapoʻuli lahi.
13 and He saith to Abram, 'knowing — know that thy seed is a sojourner in a land not theirs, and they have served them, and they have afflicted them four hundred years,
Pea naʻe pehē kia ʻEpalame, “Ke ke ʻilo pau eni, ʻe nofo ʻāunofo ho hako ʻi ha fonua ʻoku ʻikai ʻonautolu, pea te nau tauhi ʻakinautolu; pea te nau fakamamahi ʻakinautolu ʻi he taʻu ʻe fāngeau.
14 and the nation also whom they serve I judge, and after this they go out with great substance;
Pea ko e puleʻanga ko ia te nau ngāue ki ai, te u fakamaauʻi foki: pea hili ia te nau haʻu mei ai mo e koloa lahi.
15 and thou — thou comest in unto thy fathers in peace; thou art buried in a good old age;
Pea te ke ʻalu koe ki hoʻo ngaahi tamai ʻi he fiemālie: ʻe pekia koe ʻoka ke ka motuʻa lelei.
16 and the fourth generation doth turn back hither, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.'
Pea ʻi hono fā ʻoe toʻutangata te nau toe haʻu ki heni; he ʻoku teʻeki ai fonu ʻae angahala ʻae kakai ʻAmoli.”
17 And it cometh to pass — the sun hath gone in, and thick darkness hath been — and lo, a furnace of smoke, and a lamp of fire, which hath passed over between those pieces.
Pea ʻi he tō ʻae laʻā pea poʻuli, vakai, naʻe ʻi ai ʻae afi kakaha kuo kohu, mo e maama ulo naʻe ʻalu ʻi he vahaʻa ʻoe ngaahi konga [manu].
18 In that day hath Jehovah made with Abram a covenant, saying, 'To thy seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Phrat,
‌ʻI he ʻaho ko ia naʻe fai ʻe Sihova ʻae fuakava mo ʻEpalame, ʻo pehē, “Kuo u tuku ki ho hako ʻae fonua ni, mei he vaitafe ʻo ʻIsipite ʻo aʻu ki he vaitafe lahi, ʻaia ko e ʻIufaletesi.
19 with the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite,
Ko e kakai Kena, mo e kakai Kenisai mo e kakai Katimona.
20 and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim,
Mo e kakai Heti, mo e kakai Pelisi, mo e kakai Lifeime,
21 and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.'
Mo e kakai ʻAmoli, mo e kakai Kēnani, mo e kakai Kilikesa, mo e kakai Sepusi.”
