Numbers 21
1 And whanne Chananei, the kyng of Arad, that dwellide at the south, hadde herd this, that is, that Israel cam bi the weye of aspieris, he fauyt ayens hem; and Chananei was ouercomere and ledde pray of Israel.
Då den kananitiske kongen som budde i Arad i Sudlandet, høyrde at Israel kom farande etter ålmannvegen, tok han på deim, og fanga nokre av deim.
2 And Israel bounde hym sylf bi avow to the Lord, and seide, If thou schalt bitake this puple in myn hond, Y schal do awei `the citees therof.
Då gjorde Israel ein lovnad til Herren, og sagde: «Gjev du dette folket i våre hender, so skal me bannstøyta byarne deira.»
3 And the Lord herde the preieris of Israel, and bitook the Chananey; and Israel killid hym, and distruyede hise citees; and clepide the name of that place Horma, that is, cursyng, `ethir hangyng up.
Og Herren høyrde bøni, og gav kananitarne i Israels hender, og Israel bannstøytte deim og byarne deira; sidan kalla dei den staden Horma.
4 `Forsothe thei yeden forth also fro the hil of Hor, bi the weie that ledith to the reed see, that thei schulden cumpasse the lond of Edom; and it bigan to anoye the puple, of the weie and trauel.
Frå Horfjellet tok dei leidi burt imot Raudehavet, og vilde fara ikring Edomlandet. Men på vegen vart folket utoluge;
5 And the puple spak ayens the Lord and Moises, and seide, Whi leddist thou vs out of Egipt, that we schulden die in wildirnesse? breed failith, watris ben not; oure soule wlatith now on this `meete moost liyt.
dei lasta Gud og Moses, og sagde: «Kvi hadde de oss burt frå Egyptarland? No lyt me døy her i øydemarki; for her finst det korkje brød eller vatn, og me er hjarteleide av denne veike maten.»
6 Wherfor the Lord sente `firid serpentis in to the puple; at the woundis of whiche serpentis, and the dethis of ful many men,
Då sende Herren eiterormar, som for inn imillom folket og hogg deim, so mange av deim døydde.
7 thei camen to Moyses, and seiden, We synneden, for we spaken ayens the Lord and thee; preie thou, that he take awey fro vs the serpentis.
So kom dei til Moses, og sagde: «Me synda då me lasta Herren og deg. Bed Herren at han vil fria oss frå ormarne!» Då bad Moses for folket.
8 And Moises preiede for the puple; and the Lord seide to hym, Make thou a serpent of bras, and sette thou it for a signe; he that is smytun and biholdith it, schal lyue.
Og Herren sagde til Moses: «Gjer deg ein eitarorm, og set honom upp på ei stong, so skal kvar ein som er ormhoggen og ser burt på honom få liva.»
9 Therfor Moyses made a serpent of bras, and settide for a signe; and men smytun and biholdynge it, weren heelid.
So gjorde Moses ein koparorm, og sette honom på ei stong, og kvar gong ormarne hadde hogge nokon og han såg burt på koparormen, fekk han liva.
10 And the sones of Israel yeden forth,
Sidan tok Israels-sønerne i vegen att, og lægra seg i Obot.
11 and settiden tentis in Oboth; fro whennus thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in Neabarym, in the wildirnesse, that biholdith Moab, ayens the eest coost.
So tok dei ut frå Obot, og lægra seg ved Ijje-ha-Abarim i øydemarki austanfor Moab.
12 And thei moueden fro thennus, and camen to the stronde of Zareth;
So for dei derifrå, og slo læger i Zereddalen.
13 which thei leften, and settiden tentis ayens Arnon, which is in the deseert, and apperith in the coostis of Amorrei. Forsothe Arnon is the terme of Moab, and departith Moabitis and Ammoreis.
So for dei lenger, og slo læger på hi sida av Arnonelvi, der som ho kjem utor Amoritarlandet og renn igjenom øydemarki. Arnon er landskilet åt Moab, og byte millom Moab og amoritarne;
14 Wherfor it is seid in the book of batels of the Lord, As he dide in the reed see, so he schal do in the strondis of Arnon;
difor stend det i boki um Herrens herferder: «Vaheb vann me snøgge som vinden, åern’ alle, ja sjølve Arnon -
15 the harde rochis of the strondis weren bowid, that tho schulen reste in Arnon, and schulden ligge in the coostis of Moabitis.
elvelidi som heldt til Arheim og hallar seg uppåt Moabs-eigni.»
16 Fro that place the pit apperide, of which the Lord spak to Moyses, Gadere thou the puple, and Y schal yyue watir to it.

Du brunn som jarlar bora, og hovdingarne hola med styrarstavarn’ sine - frå aude grunn ei gåva.»
19 fro Mathana to Naaliel, fro Naaliel in to Bamoth;
Frå Mattana for dei so til Nahaliel, og frå Nahaliel til Bamot,
20 Bamoth is a valey in the cuntrey of Moab, in the cop of Phasga, that biholdith ayens the deseert.
og frå Bamot til den dalen som ligg i Moabmarki, tett med toppen av Pisgafjellet, og hallar ned imot Øydemoen.
21 Forsothe Israel sente messangeris to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, and seide,
Israel sende bod til Sihon, kongen yver amoritarne, og sagde:
22 Y biseche that it be leueful to me to passe thorou thi loond; we schulen not bowe in to the feeldis and vyneris; we schulen not drynke watris of pittis; we schulen go in the kyngis weie, til we passen thi termes.
«Lat meg få fara igjenom landet ditt! Me skal ikkje koma inn på åkrarne eller vingardarne, og ikkje drikka av brunnarne; me skal halda oss etter kongsvegen, til me er komne gjenom landet ditt.»
23 Which nolde graunte that Israel schulde passe thury hise coostis, but rather, whanne the oost was gaderid, he yede out ayens Israel, in to deseert. And he cam in to Yasa, and fauyt ayens Israel;
Men Sihon vilde ikkje gjeva Israel lov til å fara gjenom landet; han samla alt herfolket sitt, og for ut i øydemarki mot Israel. Då han kom til Jahas, møtte han deim, og rauk på deim.
24 of whom he was smytun in the scharpnesse of swerd, and his lond was weldid fro Arnon `til to Jeboth and `the sones of Amon; for the termes of Amonytis weren holdun bi strong help.
Men Israel hogg honom ned med kvasse sverd, og tok landet hans, frå Arnon til Jabbok til Ammonriket; men landskilet åt Ammons-sønerne var tettsett med borger.
25 Therfor Israel took alle `the citees of hym, and dwelliden in the citees of Amorrei, that is, in Esebon, and hise townes.
Og Israel lagde under seg alle byarne åt amoritarne, og vart buande der, i Hesbon og alle dei byarne som høyrde til.
26 The citee of Esebon was Seons, kyng of Ammorei, which Seon fauyt ayens the kyng of Moab, and took al the lond that was of his lordschip, `til to Arnon.
For Hesbon var hovudstaden åt Sihon, amoritarkongen; han hadde slegest med den fyrre kongen i Moab, og teke frå honom alt landet heilt til Arnon.
27 Therfor it is seid in prouerbe, Come ye in to Esebon, be it bildid, and maad the citee of Seon;
Difor segjer skalden: «Kom hit, kom hit til Hesbon, bygg upp att Sihons borg!
28 fier yede out of Esebon, flawme yede out of the citee `ethir greet castel of Seon, and deuouryde Ar of Moabitis, and the dwelleris of the `hiye places of Arnon.
For eld for ut frå Hesbon, frå Sihons stad ein loge, som øydde Ar i Moab og herja deim som hyste på Arnonhøgdene.
29 Moab, wo to thee! thou, puple of Chamos, perischidist; it yaf the sones therof in to fliyt, and the douytris in to caitifte to Seon, kyng of Ammoreis;
Ai ei, no er det ute med ætti åt Kamos! Han sønern’ sine sender som rømingar or riket, og sine døtter driv han til amoritardrotten Sihon i fangeferd.
30 the yok of hem perischide, fro Esebon `til to Dibon; the wery men camen in to Jophe, and `til to Medaba.
Me skot på skot deim sende; Hesbon vart lagd i grus og heile landet herja med odd og egg, til Dibon. Me øydde alt ikring oss, og kveikte ufredselden alt burt åt Medeba.»
31 And so Israel dwellide in the lond of Ammorrey.
Israels-sønerne slo seg ned i Amoritarlandet,
32 And Moises sente men that schulden aspie Jaser, whos `townes thei token, and weldiden the dwelleris.
og Moses sende njosnarar til Jazer; siden lagde dei under seg alle bygderne der ikring, og dreiv ut amoritarne som budde der.

34 And the Lord seide to Moises, Drede thou not hym, for Y haue bitake hym, and al his loond, and puple, in thin hoond; and thou schalt do to hym as thou didist to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, the dwellere of Esebon.
Men Herren sagde til Moses: «Du treng ikkje vera rædd honom! Eg gjev honom i dine hender med alt folket og landet hans, og du kann gjera med honom som du gjorde med Sihon, kongen yver amoritarne, som budde i Hesbon.»
35 Therfor thei smytiden `bothe hym with hise sones and al his puple, `til to deeth; and thei weldiden `the lond of hym.
So hogg dei honom ned, både honom og sønerne og folket hans, so ingen vart att eller slapp undan, og sidan eigna dei åt seg landet.
