Matthew 25
1 Thanne the kyngdoom of heuenes schal be lijk to ten virgyns, whiche token her laumpis, and wenten out ayens the hosebonde and the wijf;
«Alors le Royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, allèrent, leurs lampes à la main, à la rencontre de l'époux.
2 and fyue of hem weren foolis, and fyue prudent.
Cinq d'entre elles étaient folles, cinq étaient sages.
3 But the fyue foolis token her laumpis, and token not oile with hem;
Folles, car, en prenant leurs lampes, elles n'avaient pas emporté d'huile avec elles;
4 but the prudent token oile in her vessels with the laumpis.
mais les sages avaient pris, avec leurs lampes, de l'huile dans des vases.
5 And whilis the hosebonde tariede, alle thei nappiden and slepten.
L'époux tardant à venir, elles s'assoupirent toutes et s'endormirent.
6 But at mydnyyt a cryy was maad, Lo! the spouse cometh, go ye oute to mete with him.
Au milieu de la nuit un cri retentit: «Voici l'époux! sortez au-devant de lui!»
7 Thanne alle tho virgyns risen vp, and araieden her laumpis.
Alors toutes ces vierges se levèrent et apprêtèrent leurs lampes,
8 And the foolis seiden to the wise, Yyue ye to vs of youre oile, for oure laumpis ben quenchid.
et les folles dirent aux sages: «Nos lampes s'éteignent; donnez-nous de votre huile.»
9 The prudent answeriden, and seiden, Lest perauenture it suffice not to vs and to you, go ye rather to men that sellen, and bie to you.
Les sages répondirent: «Il n'y en aurait peut-être pas assez pour nous et pour vous; allez plutôt à ceux qui en vendent et vous en achetez.»
10 And while thei wenten for to bie, the spouse cam; and tho that weren redi, entreden with him to the weddyngis; and the yate was schit.
«Or, pendant qu'elles allaient en acheter, l'époux vint, et celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui au festin de noces; et la porte fut fermée.
11 And at the last the othere virgyns camen, and seiden, Lord, lord, opene to vs.
«Enfin arrivent aussi les autres vierges, en disant: «Seigneur! Seigneur! ouvre-nous!»
12 And he answeride, and seide, Treuli Y seie to you, Y knowe you not.
mais il leur répondit: «En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne vous connais pas.»
13 Therfor wake ye, for ye witen not the dai ne the our.
Donc, veillez, parce que vous ne savez ni le jour ni l'heure.»
14 For as a man that goith in pilgrimage, clepide hise seruauntis, and bitook to hem hise goodis;
«Tel encore le Royaume des cieux, tel un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs et leur confia ses biens.
15 and to oon he yaf fyue talentis, and to another tweyne, and to another oon, to ech after his owne vertu; and wente forth anoon.
A celui-ci, il donna cinq talents; à celui-là, deux; à ce troisième, un seul; à chacun suivant sa capacité personnelle. Aussitôt après, il partit.
16 And he that hadde fyue besauntis, wente forth, and wrouyte in hem, and wan othere fyue.
Celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents alla les faire valoir et en gagna cinq autres.
17 Also and he that hadde takun tweyne, wan othere tweyne.
De même celui qui en avait deux en gagna deux autres.
18 But he that hadde takun oon, yede forth, and dalf in to the erthe, and hidde the money of his lord.
Mais celui qui n'en avait reçu qu'un, alla faire un trou dans la terre et il y enfouit l'argent de son maître.
19 But after long tyme, the lord of tho seruauntis cam, and rekenede with hem.
Après un long temps écoulé, le maître revint et il fit rendre compte à ses serviteurs.
20 And he that hadde takun fyue besauntis, cam, and brouyte othere fyue, and seide, Lord, thou bytokist to me fyue besauntis, loo! Y haue getun aboue fyue othere.
Celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents se présenta, en apportant cinq autres. «Seigneur, dit-il, tu m'as confié cinq talents; en voici cinq autres que j'ai gagnés.»
21 His lord seide to hym, Wel be thou, good seruaunt and feithful; for on fewe thingis thou hast be trewe, Y schal ordeyne thee on manye thingis; entre thou in to the ioye of thi lord.
Le maître lui dit: «Bien, serviteur bon et fidèle; c'est dans peu de chose que tu t'es montré fidèle, c'est sur beaucoup que je t'établirai. Entre dans la joie de ton seigneur.»
22 And he that hadde takun twey talentis, cam, and seide, Lord, thou bitokist to me twey besauntis; loo!
S'approchant aussi, celui qui avait reçu les deux talents, dit: «Seigneur, tu m'as confié deux talents; en voici deux autres que j'ai gagnés.»
23 Y haue wonnen ouer othir tweyne. His lord seide to him, Wel be thou, good seruaunt and trewe; for on fewe thingis thou hast be trewe, Y schal ordeyne thee on many thingis; entre thou in to the ioie of thi lord.
Son maître lui dit: «Bien, serviteur bon et fidèle; c'est dans peu de chose que tu t'es montré fidèle, c'est sur beaucoup que je t'établirai. Entre dans la joie de ton seigneur.»
24 But he that hadde takun o besaunt, cam, and seide, Lord, Y woot that thou art an hard man; thou repist where thou hast not sowe, and thou gederist togidere where thou hast not spred abrood;
Mais celui qui avait reçu un seul talent vint à son tour et dit: Seigneur, je savais que tu es un homme dur, tu moissonnes là où tu n'as pas semé, tu ramasses sur l'aire où tu n'as pas étendu de gerbes;
25 and Y dredynge wente, and hidde thi besaunt in the erthe; lo! thou hast that that is thin.
et, plein de crainte, je suis allé enfouir en terre ton talent. Le voilà; tu es en possession de ce qui t'appartient.»
26 His lord answeride, and seide to hym, Yuel seruaunt and slowe, wistist thou that Y repe where Y sewe not, and gadir to gidere where Y spredde not abrood?
Mais son maître lui répondit par ces paroles: «Mauvais serviteur! paresseux! tu savais que je moissonne là où je n'ai pas semé et que je ramasse sur l'aire où je n'ai pas étendu de gerbes.
27 Therfor it bihofte thee to bitake my money to chaungeris, that whanne Y cam, Y schulde resseyue that that is myn with vsuris.
Il te fallait en conséquence placer ton argent chez les banquiers, et, à mon retour, j'aurais retiré ce qui est à moi avec un intérêt.
28 Therfor take awei fro hym the besaunt, and yyue ye to hym that hath ten besauntis.
Donc, ôtez lui le talent et donnez-le à celui qui a les dix.
29 For to euery man that hath me schal yyue, and he schal encreese; but fro hym that hath not, also that that hym semeth to haue, schal be taken awey fro him.
Car à tout homme qui a il sera donné, et il sera dans l'abondance; mais à celui qui n'a pas, même ce qu'il a lui sera ôté.
30 And caste ye out the vnprofitable seruaunt in to vtmer derknessis; ther schal be wepyng, and gryntyng of teeth.
Quant au serviteur inutile, jetez-le dehors, dans les ténèbres, — là seront les pleurs et le grincement des dents.
31 Whanne mannus sone schal come in his maieste, and alle hise aungels with hym, thanne he schal sitte on the sege of his maieste;
Lorsque le Fils de l'homme viendra dans sa gloire, et, avec lui, tous les anges, il s'assiéra sur son trône de gloire.
32 and alle folkis schulen be gaderid bifor hym,
Devant lui seront rassemblées toutes les nations; et il séparera les uns d'avec les autres, comme le berger sépare les brebis d'avec les boucs;
33 and he schal departe hem atwynne, as a scheeperde departith scheep from kidis; and he schal sette the scheep on his riythalf, and the kidis on the lefthalf.
il placera les brebis à sa droite, les boucs à sa gauche.
34 Thanne the kyng schal seie to hem, that schulen be on his riythalf, Come ye, the blessid of my fadir, take ye in possessioun the kyngdoom maad redi to you fro the makyng of the world.
Après quoi, le Roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite: «Venez, les bénis de mon Père! entrez en possession du Royaume qui vous a été préparé depuis la création du monde;
35 For Y hungride, and ye yauen me to ete; Y thristide, and ye yauen me to drynke; Y was herboreles, and ye herboriden me;
car j'ai eu faim, et vous m'avez donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous m'avez donné à boire; j'étais étranger, et vous m'avez recueilli;
36 nakid, and ye hiliden me; sijk, and ye visitiden me; Y was in prisoun, and ye camen to me.
nu, et vous m'avez vêtu; malade, et vous m'avez visité; en prison, et vous êtes venus près de moi.»
37 Thanne iust men schulen answere to hym, and seie, Lord, whanne siyen we thee hungry, and we fedden thee; thristi, and we yauen to thee drynk?
Les justes alors lui répondront par ces paroles: «Seigneur, quand est-ce que nous t'avons vu avoir faim et que nous t'avons nourri? Avoir soif et que nous t'avons donné à boire?
38 and whanne sayn we thee herborles, and we herboreden thee; or nakid, and we hiliden thee?
Quand est-ce que, te voyant étranger, nous t'avons recueilli; que, te voyant dans la nudité, nous t'avons vêtu?
39 or whanne sayn we thee sijk, or in prisoun, and we camen to thee?
Quand est-ce que nous t'avons vu malade ou en prison et que nous sommes venus près de toi?»
40 And the kyng answerynge schal seie to hem, Treuli Y seie to you, as longe as ye diden to oon of these my leeste britheren, ye diden to me.
Et le Roi leur fera cette réponse: «En vérité, je vous le dis, toutes les fois que vous avez fait cela à un seul des plus petits parmi mes frères que voici, c'est à moi que vous l'avez fait.»
41 Thanne the kyng schal seie also to hem, that schulen be on his lefthalf, Departe fro me, ye cursid, in to euerlastynge fijr, that is maad redi to the deuel and hise aungels. (aiōnios g166)
Puis il dira à ceux qui seront à sa gauche: «Allez loin de moi, maudits, dans le feu éternel préparé pour le diable et ses anges. (aiōnios g166)
42 For Y hungride, and ye yauen not me to ete; Y thristide, and ye yauen not me to drynke;
Car j'ai eu faim et vous ne m'avez pas donné à manger; j’ai eu soif et vous ne m'avez pas donné à boire;
43 Y was herborles, and ye herberden not me; nakid, and ye keuerden not me; sijk, and in prisoun, and ye visitiden not me.
j'étais étranger et vous ne m'avez pas recueilli; nu et vous ne m'avez pas vêtu; malade et en prison et vous ne m'avez pas visité.»
44 Thanne and thei schulen answere to hym, and schulen seie, Lord, whanne sayn we thee hungrynge, or thristynge, or herboreles, or nakid, or sijk, or in prisoun, and we serueden not to thee?
Alors ils répondront, eux aussi, par ces paroles: «Seigneur, quand est-ce que nous t'avons vu avoir faim, avoir soif, être étranger ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et que nous ne t'avons pas assisté?»
45 Thanne he schal answere to hem, and seie, Treuli Y seie to you, `hou longe ye diden not to oon of these leeste, nether ye diden to me.
Mais il leur fera cette réponse: «En vérité, je vous le dis, toutes les fois que vous n'avez pas fait cela à un seul de ces plus petits, que voici, c'est à moi que vous ne l'avez pas fait.
