1 Samuel 16

1 And the Lord seide to Samuel, Hou long biweilist thou Saul, sithen Y castide hym awey, that he regne not on Israel; fille thin horn with oile, and come, that Y sende thee to Ysay of Bethleem; for among hise sones Y haue purueide a king to me.

Herren sa til Samuel: Hvor lenge vil du sørge over Saul, enda jeg har forkastet ham, så han ikke skal være konge over Israel? Fyll ditt horn med olje og gå avsted! Jeg sender dig til betlehemitten Isai, for blandt hans sønner har jeg utsett mig en til konge.

2 And Samuel seide, Hou schal Y go? for Saul schal here, and he schal sle me. And the Lord seide, Thou schalt take a calf of the droue in thi hond, and thou schalt seye, Y cam to make sacrifice to the Lord.

Men Samuel sa: Hvorledes kan jeg gjøre slik en ferd? Får Saul høre det, slår han mig ihjel. Da sa Herren: Ta med dig en kalv av buskapen og si: Jeg er kommet for å ofre til Herren.

3 And thou schalt clepe Ysay to the sacrifice, and Y schal schewe to thee, what thou schalt do; and thou schalt anoynte, whom euere Y schal schewe to thee.

Og innbyd Isai til ofringen, så vil jeg la dig få vite hvad du skal gjøre, og du skal salve for mig den jeg sier dig.

4 Therfor Samuel dide, as the Lord spak to hym; and he cam in to Bethleem, and the eldere men of the citee wondriden, and camen to hym, and seiden, Whether thin entryng is pesible?

Samuel gjorde som Herren sa. Da han kom til Betlehem, gikk byens eldste ham skjelvende i møte og sa: Kommer du med fred?

5 And he seide, It is pesible; Y cam to make sacrifice to the Lord; be ye halewid, and come ye with me, that Y make sacrifice. Therfor he halewide Ysai, and hise sones, and clepide hem to the sacrifice.

Han svarte: Ja, jeg kommer med fred; jeg er kommet for å ofre til Herren; hellige eder og kom med mig til ofringen! Og han lot Isai og hans sønner hellige sig og innbød dem til ofringen.

6 And whanne thei hadden entrid, he siy Eliab, and seide, Whether bifor the Lord is his crist?

Da de kom, og han fikk se Eliab, tenkte han: Visselig står her for Herren hans salvede.

7 And the Lord seide to Samuel, Biholde thou not his cheer, nethir hiynesse of his stature; for Y castide hym awei, and Y demyde not bi `the siyt of man; for a man seeth tho thingis that ben opyn, but the Lord biholdith the herte.

Men Herren sa til Samuel: Se ikke på hans utseende og på hans høie vekst! For jeg har forkastet ham; jeg ser ikke på hvad mennesket ser på, for mennesket ser på det utvortes, men Herren ser på hjertet.

8 And Ysai clepide Amynadab, and brouyte hym bifor Samuel; which seide, Nether the Lord hath chose this.

Så kalte Isai på Abinadab og lot ham gå frem for Samuel; men han sa: Heller ikke ham har Herren utvalgt.

9 Forsothe Isay brouyte Samma; of whom Samuel seide, Also the Lord hath not chose this.

Så lot Isai Samma gå frem; men han sa: Heller ikke ham har Herren utvalgt.

10 Therfor Isai brouyte hise seuene sones bifor Samuel; and Samuel seide to Ysai, The Lord hath `not chose of these.

Således lot Isai syv sønner gå frem for Samuel; men Samuel sa til Isai: Herren har ikke utvalgt nogen av disse.

11 And Samuel seide to Isai, Whether thi sones ben now fillid? And Isai answeride, Yit `another is, a litil child, and lisewith scheep. And Samuel seide to Isai, Sende thou, and brynge hym; for we schulen not sitte to mete, bifor that he come hidur.

Og Samuel sa til Isai: Var dette alle de gutter du har? Han svarte: Ennu er den yngste tilbake; han vokter småfeet. Da sa Samuel til Isai: Send bud efter ham! Vi setter oss ikke til bords før han kommer.

12 Therfor Ysai sente, and brouyte hym; sotheli he was rodi, and fair in siyt, and of semely face. And the Lord seide, Rise thou, and anoynte hym; for it is he.

Så sendte han bud efter ham. Han var rødkinnet og hadde vakre øine og var fager av utseende. Da sa Herren: Stå op og salv ham! For han er det.

13 Therfor Samuel took the horn of oyle, and anoyntid hym in the myddis of his britheren; and the Spirit of the Lord was dressid in to Dauid fro that day `and afterward. And Samuel roos, and yede in to Ramatha.

Da tok Samuel oljehornet og salvet ham midt iblandt hans brødre, og Herrens Ånd kom over David fra den dag og fremdeles. Så brøt Samuel op og gikk til Rama.

14 And so the Spirit of the Lord yede awei fro Saul, and a wickid spirit of the Lord trauelide Saul.

Men Herrens Ånd vek fra Saul, og en ond ånd fra Herren forferdet ham.

15 And the seruauntis of Saul seiden to hym, Lo! an yuel spirit of the Lord traueilith thee;

Da sa Sauls tjenere til ham: Vi ser at en ond ånd fra Gud forferder dig.

16 oure lord the kyng comaunde, and thi seruauntis that ben bifore thee, schulen seke a man, that kan synge with an harpe, that whanne the yuel spirit of the Lord takith thee, he harpe with his hond, and thou bere esiliere.

Herre, byd bare dine tjenere som står for ditt ansikt, å opsøke en mann som er kyndig i å spille på harpe. Når da en ond ånd fra Gud kommer over dig, skal han spille på sin harpe; da vil det bli bedre med dig.

17 And Saul seide to hise seruauntis, Puruey ye to me sum man syngynge wel, and brynge ye hym to me.

Da sa Saul til sine tjenere: Ja, finn mig en mann som spiller godt, og før ham hit til mig!

18 And oon of the children answeride and seide, Lo! Y siy the sone of Ysai of Bethleem, kunnynge to synge, and `strongeste in myyt, and `a man able to batel, and prudent in wordis, and a feir man; and the Lord is with hym.

En av de unge menn svarte og sa: Jeg har sett en sønn av betlehemitten Isai som er kyndig i å spille, en djerv mann og en stridsmann, god til å tale for sig og en vakker mann, og Herren er med ham.

19 Therfor Saul sente messangeris to Ysay, and seide, Sende thou to me Dauid thi sone, `which is in the lesewis.

Da sendte Saul bud til Isai og lot si: Send hit til mig din sønn David, han som er med småfeet!

20 Therfor Isai took an asse `ful of looues, and a galoun of wyn, and a `kyde of geet; and sente bi the hond of Dauid his sone to Saul.

Så tok Isai et asen, som han lesste brød på, og en skinnsekk med vin og et kje og sendte det med sin sønn David til Saul.

21 And Dauid cam to Saul, and stood bifor hym; and Saul louyde hym greetli, and he was maad `his squyer.

Således kom David til Saul, og han blev i hans tjeneste; og Saul fikk ham meget kjær, og han blev hans våbensvenn.

22 And Saul sente to Isay, and seide, Dauid stonde in my siyt, for he foond grace in myn iyen.

Og Saul sendte bud til Isai og lot si: Kjære, la David bli i min tjeneste! For han har funnet nåde for mine øine.

23 Therfor whanne euer the wickid spirit of the Lord took Saul, Dauid took the harpe, and smoot with his hond, and Saul was coumfortid, and he hadde liytere; for the wickid spirit yede awey fro hym.

Når da den onde ånd fra Gud kom over Saul, tok David harpen og spilte på den, og Saul fikk lindring, og det blev bedre med ham, og den onde ånd vek fra ham.
