Deuteronomy 29
1 These are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
Estas son las Palabras del Pacto que Yavé mandó a Moisés que celebrara con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además del Pacto que estableció con ellos en Horeb.
2 Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;
Moisés convocó a todo Israel y les dijo: Ustedes vieron todo lo que Yavé hizo ante sus ojos en la tierra de Egipto, a Faraón, a todos sus esclavos y a toda su tierra,
3 the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders.
las grandes pruebas que vieron sus ojos, las señales y los grandes prodigios.
4 But the LORD has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
Pero hasta hoy Yavé no les dio corazón para entender, ni ojos para mirar, ni oídos para escuchar.
5 I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet.
Yo los conduje por el desierto 40 años. Sus ropas no se desgastaron sobre ustedes, y su sandalia no se desgastó en su pie.
6 You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.
No comieron pan, ni bebieron vino ni licor, para que sepan que Yo soy Yavé su ʼElohim.
7 When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we struck them.
Cuando llegaron a este lugar, Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron contra nosotros para luchar, y los derrotamos.
8 We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
Tomamos su tierra y la dimos como heredad a Rubén, Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés.
9 Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
Así que guarden las Palabras de este Pacto y practíquenlas para que prosperen en todo lo que hagan.
10 All of you stand today in the presence of the LORD your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
Hoy todos ustedes están delante de Yavé su ʼElohim: los jefes de sus tribus, ancianos, oficiales y todos los hombres de Israel,
11 your little ones, your wives, and the foreigners who are in the middle of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water,
sus pequeños y esposas, y el extranjero que está dentro de su campamento, desde el leñador hasta el aguador,
12 that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD your God, and into his oath, which the LORD your God makes with you today,
para que entres en el Pacto con Yavé tu ʼElohim, y en su juramento que Yavé tu ʼElohim hace hoy contigo,
13 that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be your God, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
para confirmarte hoy como pueblo suyo, y que Él sea tu ʼElohim tal como te habló a ti y como juró a tus antepasados: Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.
14 Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,
No solo con ustedes hago este Pacto y este juramento.
15 but with those who stand here with us today before the LORD our God, and also with those who are not here with us today
Ciertamente lo hago con los que están aquí con nosotros hoy en presencia de Yavé nuestro ʼElohim y también con los que no están aquí con nosotros hoy.
16 (for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;
Porque ustedes saben cómo estuvimos en la tierra de Egipto, cómo pasamos en medio de las naciones por las cuales pasaron,
17 and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were amongst them);
y vieron sus repugnancias y sus ídolos de palo, piedra, plata y oro que tienen consigo.
18 lest there should be amongst you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be amongst you a root that produces bitter poison;
No sea que esté entre ustedes un hombre o una mujer, una familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aparte hoy de Yavé nuestro ʼElohim para ir a servir a los ʼelohim de esas naciones. No sea que esté entre ustedes una raíz que produzca hiel y ajenjo,
19 and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
y suceda que al oír las palabras de esta imprecación, se congratule en su corazón y diga: Tendré paz, aunque ande en la obstinación de mi corazón, para destruir lo regado con lo seco.
20 The LORD will not pardon him, but then the LORD’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under the sky.
Yavé no estará dispuesto a perdonarlo, sino la ira de Yavé y su celo arderán contra aquel hombre. Todas las maldiciones escritas en este rollo caerán sobre él, y Yavé borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo.
21 The LORD will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this scroll of the Torah.
Yavé lo apartará para mal de entre todas las tribus de Israel conforme a todas las maldiciones del Pacto escrito en el rollo de esta Ley.
22 The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which the LORD has made it sick,
De manera que cuando la generación venidera de sus hijos que se levanten después de ustedes y los extranjeros que lleguen de tierras lejanas, al ver las plagas de esa tierra y las enfermedades con las cuales la aflija Yavé, digan:
23 that all of its land is sulphur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
¡Toda su tierra está quemada con azufre y sal! ¡No hay siembra ni germinación! ¡El pasto no crece en ella, como en la destrucción de Sodoma y Gomorra, de Adma y de Zeboim, que Yavé destruyó en su ira y en su furor!
24 Even all the nations will say, “Why has the LORD done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
Todas las naciones dirán: ¿Por qué Yavé trató así a esta tierra? ¿Qué significa el ardor de esta enorme ira?
25 Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
Se les responderá: Porque abandonaron el Pacto de Yavé, el ʼElohim de sus antepasados, que Él hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto,
26 and went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.
fueron y sirvieron a otros ʼelohim y se inclinaron ante ellos, ʼelohim que no conocieron, los cuales Él no les asignó.
27 Therefore the LORD’s anger burnt against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
Por eso la ira de Yavé ardió contra esta tierra para traer sobre ella todas las maldiciones escritas en este rollo,
28 The LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”
y con ira, furor y gran indignación, Yavé los desarraigó de su propia tierra y los echó en otra tierra, como se ve hoy.
29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Las cosas secretas pertenecen a Yavé nuestro ʼElohim, pero las reveladas son para nosotros y nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que cumplamos todas las palabras de esta Ley.
