Romans 9
1 I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit
૧હું ખ્રિસ્તમાં સત્ય બોલું છું, હું અસત્ય બોલતો નથી, મારું અંતઃકરણ પણ પવિત્ર આત્મામાં મારી સાક્ષી છે કે,
2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart.
૨મને ભારે શોક તથા મારા અંતઃકરણમાં ખૂબ જ વેદના થાય છે.
3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers’ sake, my relatives according to the flesh
૩કેમ કે મારા ભાઈઓને બદલે, એટલે દેહ સંબંધી મારા સગાં સંબંધીઓને બદલે હું પોતે જ શાપિત થઈને ખ્રિસ્તથી બહિષ્કૃત થાઉં, એવી જાણે કે મને ઇચ્છા થાય છે.
4 who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service, and the promises;
૪તેઓ ઇઝરાયલી છે અને દત્તકપુત્રપણું, મહિમા, કરારો, નિયમશાસ્ત્રદાન, ભજનક્રિયા તથા વચનો તેઓનાં જ છે.
5 of whom are the fathers, and from whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God, blessed forever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
૫પૂર્વજો તેઓના છે અને ખ્રિસ્ત દેહ પ્રમાણે તેઓમાંના છે; તેઓ સર્વોપરી સદાકાળ સ્તુત્ય ઈશ્વર છે. આમીન. (aiōn g165)
6 But it is not as though the word of God has come to nothing. For they are not all Israel that are of Israel.
૬પણ ઈશ્વરનાં આશાવચનો જાણે કે વ્યર્થ ગયા હોય તેમ નથી. કેમ કે જેઓ ઇઝરાયલના વંશજો છે તેઓ બધા જ ઇઝરાયલી નથી.
7 Neither, because they are Abraham’s offspring, are they all children. But, “your offspring will be accounted as from Isaac.”
૭તેમ જ તેઓ ઇબ્રાહિમનાં વંશજો છે માટે બધાં જ તેનાં સંતાનો છે, એવું પણ નથી; પણ એવું લખેલું છે કે, ‘ઇસહાકથી તારો વંશ ગણાશે.’”
8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as heirs.
૮એટલે જેઓ દૈહિક સંતાનો છે, તેઓ ઈશ્વરનાં સંતાનો છે એમ નહિ; પણ જેઓ વચનનાં સંતાનો છે, તેઓ જ વંશ ગણાય છે.
9 For this is a word of promise: “At the appointed time I will come, and Sarah will have a son.”
૯કેમ કે વચન આ પ્રમાણે છે કે, ‘આ સમયે હું આવીશ અને સારાને દીકરો થશે.’”
10 Not only so, but Rebekah also conceived by one, by our father Isaac.
૧૦માત્ર એટલું જ નહિ, પરંતુ રિબકાએ પણ એકથી એટલે આપણા પિતા ઇસહાકથી ગર્ભ ધર્યો
11 For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls,
૧૧અને સંતાનોના જન્મ અગાઉ જયારે તેઓએ કંઈ પણ સારું કે ખરાબ કર્યું ન હતું, ત્યારે ઈશ્વરનો હેતુ જે તેમની પસંદગી પ્રમાણે છે તે, કરણીઓ પર નહિ, પણ તેડનારની ઇચ્છા પર આધાર રાખે,
12 it was said to her, “The elder will serve the younger.”
૧૨માટે રિબકાને એમ કહેવામાં આવ્યું કે, ‘મોટો દીકરો નાનાની ચાકરી કરશે.’”
13 Even as it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
૧૩જે પ્રમાણે લખેલું છે કે, ‘મેં યાકૂબ પર પ્રેમ રાખ્યો, પણ એસાવ પર દ્વેષ કર્યો.
14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? May it never be!
૧૪ત્યારે આપણે શું અનુમાન કરીએ? શું ઈશ્વરને ત્યાં અન્યાય છે? ના, તેવું ન થાઓ;
15 For he said to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
૧૫કેમ કે તે મૂસાને કહે છે કે, ‘જેનાં ઉપર હું દયા કરવા ચાહું, તેના ઉપર હું દયા કરીશ; અને જેનાં ઉપર હું કરુણા કરવા ચાહું, તેના ઉપર હું કરુણા કરીશ.’”
16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy.
૧૬માટે તે તો ઇચ્છનારથી નહિ અને દોડનારથી નહિ, પણ દયા કરનાર ઈશ્વરથી થાય છે.
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I caused you to be raised up, that I might show in you my power, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
૧૭વળી શાસ્ત્રવચન ફારુનને કહે છે કે, ‘તારા દ્વારા હું મારું સામર્થ્ય બતાવું, અને મારું નામ આખી પૃથ્વી પર પ્રગટ થાય એ કામ માટે મેં તને ઊભો કર્યો છે.’”
18 So then, he has mercy on whom he desires, and he hardens whom he desires.
૧૮તે માટે તે ચાહે તેના પર દયા કરે છે; અને ચાહે તેને હઠીલો કરે છે.
19 You will say then to me, “Why does he still find fault? For who withstands his will?”
૧૯ત્યારે તું મને કહેશે કે, ‘એવું છે તો તે કેમ દોષ કાઢે છે? કેમ કે તેમની ઇચ્છાની વિરુદ્ધ કોણ થઈ શકે છે?’
20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed ask him who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?”
૨૦પણ ભલા માણસ, તું વળી કોણ છે કે ઈશ્વરને સામો સવાલ કરે છે? જે ઘડાયેલું છે, તે શું પોતાના ઘડનારને પૂછશે કે, ‘તેં મને આવું કેમ બનાવ્યું?’
21 Or hasn’t the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel for honor, and another for dishonor?
૨૧શું કુંભારને એક જ માટીના એક ભાગનું ખાસ વપરાશ માટે તથા બીજાનું સામાન્ય વપરાશ માટે પાત્ર બનાવવાને માટી ઉપર અધિકાર નથી?
22 What if God, willing to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,
૨૨જો ઈશ્વરે પોતાનો કોપ બતાવવાની તથા પોતાનું સામર્થ્ય પ્રગટ કરવાની ઇચ્છા રાખીને નાશને પાત્ર થયેલાં કોપના પાત્રોનું ઘણી ધીરજથી સહન કર્યું;
23 and that he might make known the riches of his glory on vessels of mercy, which he prepared beforehand for glory—
૨૩અને જો મહિમાને માટે અગાઉથી તૈયાર કરેલાં દયાના પાત્રો પર.
24 us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles?
૨૪એટલે આપણા પર જેઓને તેમણે ફક્ત યહૂદીઓમાંથી નહિ, પણ બિનયહૂદીઓમાંથી પણ તેડ્યાં છે તેઓ પર, પોતાના મહિમાની સંપત્તિ જણાવવાં તેમની મરજી હતી તો તેમાં ખોટું શું?
25 As he says also in Hosea, “I will call them ‘my people,’ which were not my people; and her ‘beloved,’ who was not beloved.”
૨૫જેમ કે તેઓ હોશિયાના પુસ્તકમાં પણ કહે છે કે, ‘જેઓ મારા લોક ન હતા તેઓને હું મારા લોક અને જે પ્રિય ન હતી તેને હું પ્રિય કહીશ.
26 “It will be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’”
૨૬અને એમ થશે કે જે સ્થળે તેઓને એવું કહેવામાં આવ્યું હતું કે તમે મારા લોકો નથી, ત્યાં તેઓ ‘જીવતા ઈશ્વરના દીકરાઓ’ કહેવાશે.”
27 Isaiah cries concerning Israel, “If the number of the children of Israel are as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant who will be saved;
૨૭વળી યશાયા ઇઝરાયલ સંબંધી ઘાંટો પાડીને કહે છે કે, જોકે ‘ઇઝરાયલના સંતાનોની સંખ્યા સમુદ્રની રેતીના જેટલી હોય, તોપણ તેનો શેષ જ ઉદ્ધાર પામશે’
28 for he will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”
૨૮કેમ કે પ્રભુ પોતાનું વચન જલદીથી અને સંપૂર્ણપણે પૃથ્વી પર અમલમાં લાવશે.’”
29 As Isaiah has said before, “Unless the Lord of Armies had left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and would have been made like Gomorrah.”
૨૯એમ જ યશાયાએ અગાઉ પણ કહ્યું હતું કે, ‘જો સૈન્યોના પ્રભુએ આપણે સારુ બીજ રહેવા દીધું ન હોત, તો આપણા હાલ સદોમ તથા ગમોરાના જેવા થઈ ગયા હોત.’”
30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who didn’t follow after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith;
૩૦ત્યારે આપણે શું અનુમાન કરીએ? કે બિનયહૂદીઓ ન્યાયીપણાની શોધ કરતા ન હતા, તોપણ તેઓને ન્યાયીપણું, એટલે જે ન્યાયીપણું વિશ્વાસથી પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે તે, પ્રાપ્ત થયું.’”
31 but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, didn’t arrive at the law of righteousness.
૩૧પણ ઇઝરાયલ ન્યાયીપણું આપનાર નિયમશાસ્ત્રને અનુસર્યા છતાં તે ન્યાયીપણાને પહોંચી શક્યા નહિ.
32 Why? Because they didn’t seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
૩૨કેમ નહિ? કેમ કે તેઓ વિશ્વાસથી નહિ, પણ જાણે કે કરણીઓથી તેને શોધતાં હતા. તેઓએ ઠેસ ખવડાવનાર પથ્થરથી ઠોકર ખાધી;
33 even as it is written, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock of offense; and no one who believes in him will be disappointed.”
૩૩જેમ લખેલું છે કે ‘જુઓ, હું સિયોનમાં ઠેસ ખવડાવનાર પથ્થર અને ઠોકરરૂપ ખડક મૂકું છું, જે કોઈ તેના ઉપર વિશ્વાસ કરશે તે શરમાશે નહિ.
