Romans 13

1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.

Toda alma sea sujeta a las potestades superiores; porque no hay potestad sino de Dios: las potestades que son, de Dios son ordenadas.

2 Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.

Así que el que se opone a la potestad, al orden de Dios resiste; y los que resisten, ellos mismos recibirán condenación para sí.

3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority,

Porque los magistrados no son para temor de las buenas obras, sino de las malas. ¿Quieres pues no temer la potestad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás alabanza de ella;

4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.

Porque te es el ministro de Dios para bien. Mas si hicieres lo malo, teme; porque no sin causa trae la espada, porque es el ministro de Dios, vengador para ejecutar su ira al que hace lo malo.

5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.

Por lo cual es necesario que le seáis sujetos: no solamente por motivo de la ira, mas aun por la conciencia.

6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing.

Porque por esto les pagáis también los tributos; porque son ministros de Dios que sirven a esto mismo.

7 Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

Pagád pues a todos lo que debéis: al que tributo, tributo: al que impuesto, impuesto: al que temor, temor: al que honra, honra.

8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

No debáis a nadie nada, sino que os améis unos a otros; porque el que ama al prójimo, cumplió la ley.

9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Porque esto: No adulterarás: no matarás: no hurtarás: no dirás falso testimonio: no codiciarás; y si hay algún otro mandamiento, en esta palabra se comprende sumariamente: Amarás a tu prójimo, como a ti mismo.

10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

El amor no hace mal al prójimo, así que el amor es el cumplimiento de la ley.

11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.

Y esto, conociendo el tiempo, que es ya hora de levantarnos del sueño; porque ahora nos esta más cerca nuestra salvación, que cuando creíamos.

12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.

La noche ya pasa, y el día va llegando: desechemos pues las obras de las tinieblas, y vistámonos las armas de luz.

13 Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.

Andemos honestamente, como de día: no en glotonerías y borracheras, no en lechos y disoluciones, no en pendencias y envidia:

14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

Mas vestíos del Señor Jesu Cristo; y no penséis en la carne para cumplir sus deseos.
