Romans 13
1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
Jedermann sei unterthan der obrigkeitlichen Gewalt, denn es gibt keine Obrigkeit, die nicht von Gott wäre; wo sie ist, ist sie von Gott angeordnet.
2 Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.
Wer also der Obrigkeit sich widersetzt, der lehnt sich auf wider Gottes Ordnung; die Aufrührer aber werden sich ihr Gericht holen.
3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority,
Die Herrscher sind nicht zum Schrecken da für das rechtschaffene Thun, sondern für das böse. Willst du keine Furcht haben vor der Obrigkeit? so thue das Gute, und du wirst von ihr Lob haben.
4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.
Denn sie ist Gottes Gehilfe für dich zum Guten. Thust du aber Böses, dann fürchte dich; denn sie trägt das Schwert nicht umsonst. Sie ist Gottes Gehilfe, Gerichtsvollstrecker für den, der Böses thut.
5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
Darum ist es geboten sich ihr zu unterwerfen, nicht nur um des Zorngerichtes, sondern auch um des Gewissens willen.
6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing.
Darum sollt ihr auch die Steuern entrichten; denn es sind Gottes Beamte, die eben dazu auf ihrem Posten sind.
7 Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
Gebet jedem was er zu fordern hat, Steuer dem die Steuer gebührt, Zoll dem der Zoll gebührt, Furcht dem Furcht, Ehre dem Ehre gebührt.
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
Bleibet niemand etwas schuldig, als daß ihr euch unter einander liebt. Wer den Nächsten liebt, der hat das Gesetz erfüllt.
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Denn das Wort: du sollst nicht ehebrechen, nicht töten, nicht stehlen, nicht begehren, und alle weiteren Gebote sind zusammengefaßt in diesem Worte, nämlich: du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben, wie dich selbst.
10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
Die Liebe bereitet dem Nächsten nichts Böses, also ist in der Liebe das ganze Gesetz begriffen.
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
Und das thut in Erkenntnis der Zeit, nämlich, daß die Stunde für euch da ist, aus dem Schlafe zu erwachen; denn die Errettung steht uns heute näher, als da wir anfiengen zu glauben.
12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.
Die Nacht ist vorgerückt, der Tag ist herbeigekommen. So lasset uns also ablegen die Werke der Finsternis und anziehen die Waffen des Lichtes.
13 Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
Gleich als am Tage lasset uns wohlanständig wandeln, nicht mit Gelagen und Zechen, nicht mit Unzucht und Ueppigkeit, nicht mit Streit und Neid,
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
sondern ziehet an den Herrn Jesus Christus, und pfleget nicht das Fleisch zu Lüsten.
