Romans 10
1 Brothers, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God is for Israel, that they may be saved.
Frères, le désir de mon coeur et la prière que j'adresse à Dieu pour eux, c'est qu'ils soient sauvés.
2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
Je leur rends le témoignage qu'ils ont du zèle pour Dieu, mais c'est un zèle ignorant,
3 For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn’t subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
car c'est parce qu'ils ont ignoré la justice de Dieu et qu'ils ont voulu établir leur propre justice qu'ils ne se sont pas soumis à la justice de Dieu.
4 For Christ is the fulfillment of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
En effet, la fin de la Loi c'est Christ donnant la justice à, quiconque a foi en lui.
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness of the law, “The one who does them will live by them.”
Voici comment Moïse déliait la justice obtenue par la Loi: «L'homme qui fera ces choses aura la vie par elles.»
6 But the righteousness which is of faith says this, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down);
Mais la justice obtenue par la foi parle ainsi: «Ne dis pas en ton coeur: Qui montera au ciel» (le dire serait vouloir en faire descendre Christ),
7 or, ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)” (Abyssos g12)
ou: «Qui descendra dans l'abîme?» (le dire serait vouloir faire remonter Christ de chez les morts ); (Abyssos g12)
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart;” that is, the word of faith which we preach:
au contraire, que dit-elle: «Tout près de toi est la parole, dans ta bouche et dans ton coeur»
9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
(il s'agit ici de la parole de la foi que nous prêchons); et alors si tu confesses de ta bouche le Seigneur Jésus et si tu crois dans ton coeur que Dieu l'a ressuscité des morts, tu seras sauvé;
10 For with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation.
parce que la foi du coeur mène à la justice, la confession de la bouche mène au salut.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.”
L'Écriture dit en effet: «Quiconque aura foi en lui ne sera pas déçu.»
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him.
Ainsi, point de différence entre le Juif et le Grec: tous ont un seul et même Seigneur, riche pour tous ceux qui l'invoquent, car:
13 For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
«Quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé.»
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher?
Mais comment l'invoqueront-ils s'ils n'ont pas cru en lui? comment croiront-ils s'ils n'en ont pas entendu parler? Comment en entendront-ils parler si personne ne le leur prêche?
15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”
comment ira-t-on le leur prêcher, s'il n'y a point d'envoyés? Aussi est-il écrit: «Qu'ils sont beaux... Les pieds de ceux qui annoncent de bonnes nouvelles!»
16 But they didn’t all listen to the glad news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”
Mais ils n'ont pas tous voulu écouter la Bonne Nouvelle; aussi Ésaïe dit-il: «Seigneur, qui a ajouté foi à ce que nous avons fait entendre?».
17 So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Donc, la foi se produit après qu'on a entendu, et l'on entend quand la parole de Christ est prêchée.
18 But I say, didn’t they hear? Yes, most certainly, “Their sound went out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
Mais je me dis: Peut-être n'ont-ils pas entendu prêcher? eh bien, c'est tout le contraire: «Dans la terre entière a retenti leur voix, Et jusqu'au bout du monde leurs paroles.»
19 But I ask, didn’t Israel know? First Moses says, “I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is no nation. I will make you angry with a nation void of understanding.”
Je me dis encore: Peut-être Israël n'a-t-il pas compris? Eh bien! Moïse a dit le premier: «Je vous rendrai jaloux d'un peuple de rien; Contre un peuple inintelligent je vous mettrai en colère.»
20 Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who didn’t seek me. I was revealed to those who didn’t ask for me.”
Ésaïe va plus loin encore et il dit: «Ils m'ont trouvé ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas; Ils m'ont découvert ceux qui ne s'informaient pas de moi »,
21 But about Israel he says, “All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”
tandis qu'en parlant d'Israël il dit: «Tout le long du jour j'ai tendu les bras A un peuple désobéissant et récalcitrant.»
