Revelation 17
1 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters,
L'un des sept anges qui tenaient les sept coupes, vint, et me dit: «Viens, je te montrerai le jugement de la grande prostituée qui est assise sur les grandes eaux,
2 with whom the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality. Those who dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her sexual immorality.”
avec laquelle les rois de la terre se sont souillés, et qui a enivré les habitants de la terre du vin de son libertinage.»
3 He carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns.
Et il m'emmena en esprit dans un désert. Et je vis une femme assise sur une bête écarlate, couverte de noms de blasphème, et qui avait sept têtes et dix cornes.
4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of the sexual immorality of the earth.
Cette femme était vêtue de pourpre et d'écarlate, elle était couverte d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles; elle tenait à la main une coupe d'or pleine d'abominations et des souillures de son libertinage;
5 And on her forehead a name was written, “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
sur son front était écrit un nom, nom mystérieux, «Babylone la grande, la mère des prostituées et des abominations de la terre.»
6 I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered with great amazement.
Je vis cette femme ivre du sang des saints et du sang des martyrs de Jésus, et sa vue me jeta dans un grand étonnement.
7 The angel said to me, “Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.
Alors l'ange me dit: «Pourquoi t'étonnes-tu? Je te dirai, moi, le mystère de la femme et de la bête qui la porte, et qui a les sept têtes et les dix cornes.
8 The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go into destruction. Those who dwell on the earth and whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel when they see that the beast was, and is not, and shall be present. (Abyssos g12)
La bête que tu vois, était et elle n'est plus; elle doit monter de l'abîme et s'en aller à sa perte. Et les habitants de la terre, dont le nom n'est pas écrit dans le livre de vie, dès la fondation du monde, seront dans l'étonnement, en voyant la bête, parce qu'elle était et qu'elle n'est plus, et qu'elle reparaîtra.» (Abyssos g12)
9 Here is the mind that has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.
(C'est ici que doit se montrer l'esprit doué de sagesse.) «Les sept têtes sont sept montagnes sur lesquelles la femme est assise;
10 They are seven kings. Five have fallen, the one is, and the other has not yet come. When he comes, he must continue a little while.
ce sont aussi sept rois: les cinq premiers sont tombés, l'un subsiste, l'autre n'est pas encore venu, et quand il sera venu, il ne doit demeurer que peu de temps.
11 The beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goes to destruction.
Et la bête qui était et qui n'est plus, est elle-même un huitième roi et en même temps l’un des sept rois, et elle s'en va à sa perte.
12 The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour.
Les dix cornes que tu as vues, sont dix rois qui n'ont pas encore reçu de royaumes, mais qui recevront un pouvoir de rois pour une heure, avec la bête.
13 These have one mind, and they give their power and authority to the beast.
Ils n'ont qu'une seule et même pensée, et ils mettent au service de la bête leur puissance et leur autorité.
14 These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
Ils feront la guerre à l'agneau; mais l'agneau les vaincra, parce qu'il est Seigneur des seigneurs et Roi des rois, et ceux qui l'accompagnent, les appelés, les élus, les fidèles, les vaincront avec lui.»
15 He said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages.
Et il me dit: «Les eaux que tu as vues, sur lesquelles la prostituée est assise, ce sont des peuples, des foules, des nations et des langues;
16 The ten horns which you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute, will make her desolate, will strip her naked, will eat her flesh, and will burn her utterly with fire.
et les dix cornes que tu as vues et la bête haïront elles-mêmes la prostituée; elles la rendront désolée et nue; elles mangeront ses chairs et la consumeront par le feu.
17 For God has put in their hearts to do what he has in mind, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God should be accomplished.
Car Dieu leur a mis au coeur d'exécuter la pensée de la bête, une seule et même pensée, et de mettre leur royauté au service de la bête, jusqu’à ce que ses paroles à lui soient accomplies.
18 The woman whom you saw is the great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
Quant à la femme que tu as vue, c'est la grande ville qui possède l'empire sur les rois de la terre.»
