Psalms 8

1 For the Chief Musician; on an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by David. Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!

Dem Musikmeister, nach der Keltertreterweise; ein Psalm von David. HERR, unser Herrscher, wie herrlich ist

2 From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

Aus der Kinder und Säuglinge Mund hast du ein Bollwerk dir zugerichtet deinen Gegnern zum Trotz, um Feinde und Widersacher verstummen zu machen.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained,

Wenn ich anschau’ deinen Himmel, das Werk deiner Finger, den Mond und die Sterne, die du hergerichtet:

4 what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?

was ist der Mensch, daß du seiner gedenkst, und der Menschensohn, daß du ihn beachtest?!

5 For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor.

Und doch hast du ihn nur wenig hinter die Gottheit gestellt, mit Herrlichkeit und Hoheit ihn gekrönt;

6 You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

du hast ihm die Herrschaft verliehn über deiner Hände Werke, ja alles ihm unter die Füße gelegt:

7 All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,

Kleinvieh und Rinder allzumal, dazu auch die wilden Tiere des Feldes,

8 the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

die Vögel des Himmels, die Fische im Meer, alles, was die Pfade der Meere durchzieht.

9 Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

HERR, unser Herrscher, wie herrlich ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde!
