< Proverbs 1 >

1 The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
Àwọn òwe ti Solomoni, ọmọ Dafidi, ọba Israẹli.
2 to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
Láti le ní ọgbọ́n àti ẹ̀kọ́, láti ní òye àwọn ọ̀rọ̀-ìjìnlẹ̀.
3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;
Láti gba ẹ̀kọ́ ọgbọ́n, òdodo, àti ìdájọ́, àti àìṣègbè;
4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man—
láti fi òye fún onírẹ̀lẹ̀, ìmọ̀ àti ìṣọ́ra fún àwọn èwe.
5 that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel;
Jẹ́ kí ọlọ́gbọ́n tẹ́tí kí ó sì ní ìmọ̀ kún ìmọ̀, sì jẹ́ kí ẹni òye gba ìtọ́sọ́nà.
6 to understand a proverb and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.
Láti mọ ìtumọ̀ òwe àti ìtán-dòwe, àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ àti àlọ́ àwọn ọlọ́gbọ́n.
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
Ìbẹ̀rù Olúwa ni ìbẹ̀rẹ̀ ìmọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n aláìgbọ́n kẹ́gàn ọgbọ́n àti ẹ̀kọ́.
8 My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching;
Tẹ́tí, ìwọ ọmọ mi sí ẹ̀kọ́ baba rẹ, má ṣe kọ ẹ̀kọ́ màmá rẹ sílẹ̀.
9 for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.
Wọn yóò jẹ́ òdòdó ẹ̀yẹ olóòórùn dídùn lórí rẹ àti ọ̀ṣọ́ tí ó dára yí ọrùn rẹ ká.
10 My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent.
Ọmọ mi, bí àwọn ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀ bá ń tàn ọ́, má ṣe gbà fún wọn.
11 If they say, “Come with us. Let’s lie in wait for blood. Let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause.
Bí wọn bá wí pé, “Wá pẹ̀lú wa; jẹ́ kí á ba ní ibùba fún ẹ̀jẹ̀ ẹnìkan, jẹ́ kí á lúgọ ní ìkọ̀kọ̀ de aláìṣẹ̀ ní àìnídìí;
12 Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit. (Sheol h7585)
jẹ́ ká gbé wọn mì láààyè, bí ibojì òkú, àti lódidi, bí àwọn tí ń sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sínú kòtò; (Sheol h7585)
13 We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with plunder.
a ó rí ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ nǹkan tó níye lórí a ó sì fi ìkógun kún inú ilé wa,
14 You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse”—
da ìpín rẹ pọ̀ mọ́ àárín wa, a ó sì jọ pawó sínú àpò kan náà,”
15 my son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,
ọmọ mi, má ṣe bá wọn lọ, má ṣe rìn ní ojú ọ̀nà wọn.
16 for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.
Nítorí ẹsẹ̀ wọn ń sáré sí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, wọ́n yára láti ta ẹ̀jẹ̀ sílẹ̀.
17 For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird;
Wàhálà asán ni kí ènìyàn máa dẹ àwọ̀n sílẹ̀, ní ojú ẹyẹ!
18 but these lay in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.
Àwọn ọkùnrin wọ̀nyí ń lúgọ fún ẹ̀jẹ̀ ara wọn. Ara wọn ni wọ́n ń dá lọ́nà.
19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.
Báyìí ni ìgbẹ̀yìn gbogbo àwọn tí ń wá èrè àìtọ́; yóò mú ẹ̀mí gbogbo ẹni tí ó rí i lọ.
20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.
Ọgbọ́n kígbe sókè ní pópó ó gbé ohùn rẹ̀ sókè láàrín ọjà;
21 She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:
láàrín ọjà ni ó ti kígbe jáde ní ibodè ìlú ni ó ti sọ̀rọ̀ ọ rẹ̀:
22 “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?
“Yóò ha ti pẹ́ tó tí ẹ̀yin aláìmọ̀kan yóò fi fẹ́ àìmọ̀kan yín tó? Yóò ha ti pẹ́ tó tí àwọn ẹlẹ́gàn yóò ṣe inú dídùn sí ìpẹ̀gàn tó? Àwọn aláìgbọ́n kórìíra ìmọ̀?
23 Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.
Bí ẹ bá ti gbọ́ ìbáwí ì mi ni, ǹ bá ti tú ohun tí ó wà nínú ọkàn mi jáde fún yín kí n sì fi inú mi hàn sí i yín.
24 Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;
Ṣùgbọ́n níwọ̀n bí ẹ ti kọ ìpè ní ìgbà tí mo pè kò sì sí ẹni tí ó kọ ibi ara sí mi gbà tí mo na ọwọ́ sí wọn,
25 but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;
níwọ́n bí ẹ ti kọ gbogbo ìmọ̀ràn mi, tí ẹ̀yin kò sì gba ìbáwí mi,
26 I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,
Èmi pẹ̀lú yóò fi ìdààmú yín rẹ́rìn-ín; èmi yóò ṣẹ̀fẹ̀ nígbà tí ìyọnu bá dé bá a yín.
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.
Nígbà tí ìyọnu bá dé bá a yín bí ìjì líle, nígbà tí ìdààmú bá dé bá ọ bí ààjà, nígbà tí wàhálà àti ìbànújẹ́ ọkàn bá bò ọ́ mọ́lẹ̀.
28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,
“Nígbà náà ni wọn yóò ké pè mí ṣùgbọ́n, èmi kò ní dáhùn; wọn yóò fi ara balẹ̀ wá mi ṣùgbọ́n wọn kì yóò rí mi.
29 because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.
Níwọ́n bí wọ́n ti kórìíra ìmọ̀ tí wọ́n sì kọ̀ láti bẹ̀rù Olúwa.
30 They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.
Níwọ́n bí wọn kò ti gbà ìmọ̀ràn mi tí wọ́n sì kẹ́gàn ìmọ̀ràn mi,
31 Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.
wọn yóò jẹ èrè iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ wọn wọn yóò sì jèrè èso ètè wọn ní kíkún.
32 For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.
Nítorí ìrìnkurìn àwọn aláìmọ̀kan ni yóò pa wọ́n ìkáwọ́gbera aláìgbọ́n ni yóò pa á run;
33 But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
ṣùgbọ́n ẹnìkan tí ó bá fetí sí mi, yóò gbé láìléwu yóò sì wà nínú ìdẹ̀ra, láìsí ìbẹ̀rù ìpalára.”
