Proverbs 17
1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.
Pli bona estas seka peco da pano, sed kun trankvileco, Ol domo plena de viando, kun malpaco.
2 A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.
Saĝa sklavo regos super filo hontinda, Kaj dividos heredon kune kun fratoj.
3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Yahweh tests the hearts.
Fandujo estas por arĝento, kaj forno por oro; Sed la korojn esploras la Eternulo.
4 An evildoer heeds wicked lips. A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
Malbonfaranto obeas malbonajn buŝojn; Malveremulo atentas malpian langon.
5 Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
Kiu mokas malriĉulon, tiu ofendas lian Kreinton; Kiu ĝojas pri ies malfeliĉo, tiu ne restos sen puno.
6 Children’s children are the crown of old men; the glory of children is their parents.
Nepoj estas krono por maljunuloj; Kaj gloro por infanoj estas iliaj gepatroj.
7 Excellent speech isn’t fitting for a fool, much less do lying lips fit a prince.
Al malsaĝulo ne konvenas alta parolado, Kaj ankoraŭ malpli al nobelo mensogado.
8 A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.
Donaco estas juvelo en la okuloj de sia mastro; Kien ajn li sin turnos, li sukcesos.
9 He who covers an offense promotes love; but he who repeats a matter separates best friends.
Kiu kovras kulpon, tiu serĉas amikecon; Sed kiu reparolas pri la afero, tiu disigas amikojn.
10 A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred lashes into a fool.
Pli efikas riproĉo ĉe saĝulo, Ol cent batoj ĉe malsaĝulo.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
Malbonulo serĉas nur ribelon; Sed terura sendato estos sendita kontraŭ lin.
12 Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
Pli bone estas renkonti ursinon, al kiu estas rabitaj ĝiaj infanoj, Ol malsaĝulon kun lia malsaĝeco.
13 Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
Kiu redonas malbonon por bono, El ties domo ne malaperos malbono.
14 The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
La komenco de malpaco estas kiel liberigo de akvo; Antaŭ ol ĝi tro vastiĝis, forlasu la malpacon.
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.
Kiu pravigas malvirtulon, kaj kiu malpravigas virtulon, Ambaŭ estas abomenaĵo por la Eternulo.
16 Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?
Por kio servas mono en la mano de malsaĝulo? Ĉu por aĉeti saĝon, kiam li prudenton ne havas?
17 A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.
En ĉiu tempo amiko amas, Kaj li fariĝas frato en mizero.
18 A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.
Homo malsaĝa donas manon en manon, Kaj garantias por sia proksimulo.
19 He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
Kiu amas malpacon, tiu amas pekon; Kiu tro alte levas sian pordon, tiu serĉas pereon.
20 One who has a perverse heart doesn’t find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.
Malica koro ne trovos bonon; Kaj kiu havas neĝustan langon, tiu enfalos en malfeliĉon.
21 He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy.
Kiu naskas malsaĝulon, tiu havas ĉagrenon; Kaj patro de malprudentulo ne havos ĝojon.
22 A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Ĝoja koro estas saniga; Kaj malĝoja spirito sekigas la ostojn.
23 A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.
Kaŝitajn donacojn akceptas malvirtulo, Por deklini la vojon de la justeco.
24 Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.
Antaŭ la vizaĝo de prudentulo estas saĝo; Sed la okuloj de malsaĝulo estas en la fino de la tero.
25 A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
Filo malsaĝa estas ĉagreno por sia patro, Kaj malĝojo por sia patrino.
26 Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.
Ne estas bone suferigi virtulon, Nek bati noblulon, kiu agas juste.
27 He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
Kiu ŝparas siajn vortojn, tiu estas prudenta; Kaj trankvilanimulo estas homo saĝa.
28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
Eĉ malsaĝulo, se li silentas, estas rigardata kiel saĝulo; Kaj kiel prudentulo, se li tenas fermita sian buŝon.
