Philippians 2
1 If therefore there is any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassion,
Si donc il y a quelque consolation en Christ, s'il y a quelque soulagement dans la charité, s'il y a quelque communion d'esprit, s'il y a quelque tendresse et quelque compassion,
2 make my joy full by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind;
rendez ma joie parfaite: soyez en bonne intelligence, ayant un même amour, une même âme, une seule et même pensée.
3 doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;
Ne vous laissez pas aller à des sentiments de rivalité ou de vaine gloire; mais que l'humilité vous fasse considérer les autres comme étant au-dessus de vous.
4 each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.
Que nul n'ait en vue ses propres intérêts, mais que chacun ait aussi égard à ceux des autres.
5 Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus,
Soyez animés des mêmes sentiments dont Jésus-Christ a été animé:
6 who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped,
quoiqu'il fût en forme de Dieu, loin de s'en prévaloir pour s'égaler à Dieu,
7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.
il s'est anéanti lui-même en prenant la forme de serviteur, en devenant semblable aux hommes,
8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross.
et, ayant paru comme un simple homme, il s'est abaissé lui même, se rendant obéissant jusqu’à la mort, jusqu’à la mort de la croix.
9 Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name,
C'est pourquoi Dieu l'a souverainement élevé, et lui a donné le nom qui est au-dessus de tout nom,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth,
afin qu'au nom de Jésus, tout genou fléchisse dans le ciel, sur la terre et sous la terre,
11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
et que toute langue confesse que Jésus-Christ est le Seigneur, à la gloire de Dieu son Père.
12 So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Ainsi, mes bien-aimés, comme vous avez toujours été obéissants, travaillez à votre salut avec crainte et tremblement, non seulement comme vous faisiez quand j'étais avec vous, mais bien plus encore maintenant que je suis absent;
13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
car c'est Dieu qui produit en nous le vouloir et le faire, parce que c'est son bon plaisir.
14 Do all things without complaining and arguing,
Faites toutes choses sans murmures ni arrière-pensées,
15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world,
afin que vous soyez irréprochables et purs, des enfants de Dieu parfaits, au milieu d'une génération perverse et corrompue, parmi laquelle vous brillez comme des luminaires dans le monde,
16 holding up the word of life, that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain.
en tenant haut la parole de vie: et je serai fier, lors de la journée de Christ, de n'avoir ni couru ni travaillé en vain.
17 Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
Et même si je dois servir de libation en offrant à Dieu le sacrifice de votre foi, j'en suis heureux, et je m'en réjouis avec vous tous;
18 In the same way, you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
vous aussi soyez-en heureux, et réjouissez-vous-en avec moi.
19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered up when I know how you are doing.
J'espère que, grâce au Seigneur Jésus, je vous enverrai bientôt Timothée, afin de me sentir, moi-même, plein de courage, en recevant de vos nouvelles.
20 For I have no one else like-minded, who will truly care about you.
Je n'ai personne qui partage comme lui mes sentiments, et qui puisse s'intéresser véritablement à ce qui vous concerne,
21 For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ.
car tous ont en vue leurs propres intérêts, et non ceux de Jésus-Christ.
22 But you know that he has proved himself. As a child serves a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the Good News.
Vous connaissez la solidité de son caractère, vous savez qu'il s'est dévoué avec moi, comme un enfant sous son père, au service de l'évangile.
23 Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it will go with me.
J'espère donc vous l'envoyer aussitôt que j'aurai vu clair dans mes affaires,
24 But I trust in the Lord that I myself also will come shortly.
et j'ai la conviction que, grâce au Seigneur, je le suivrai moi-même de près.
25 But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier, and your apostle and servant of my need,
En attendant, j'ai cru qu'il était nécessaire de vous envoyer Epaphrodite, mon frère, le compagnon de mes travaux et de mes combats, que vous avez député pour subvenir à mes besoins;
26 since he longed for you all, and was very troubled because you had heard that he was sick.
d'ailleurs, il soupirait après vous tous, et il était tourmenté de ce que vous aviez su sa maladie.
27 For indeed he was sick nearly to death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow on sorrow.
Il a été, en effet, tout près de la mort, mais Dieu a eu pitié de lui, et non pas seulement de lui, mais aussi de moi, afin que je n'eusse pas tristesse sur tristesse.
28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
Je me suis donc empressé de vous l'envoyer, afin que la joie vous revînt en le voyant, et que, moi-même, je fusse moins triste.
29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and hold such people in honor,
Accueillez-le donc, dans le Seigneur, avec une joie entière, et honorez de telles personnes;
30 because for the work of Christ he came near to death, risking his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me.
car c'est pour l’oeuvre qu'il a failli mourir, en exposant sa vie pour accomplir ce que vous ne pouviez faire vous-mêmes, dans le service que vous me rendiez.
