Numbers 23

1 Balaam said to Balak, “Build here seven altars for me, and prepare here seven bulls and seven rams for me.”

Y Balaam dijo a Balac: Edifícame aquí siete altares, y aparéjame aquí siete becerros, y siete carneros.

2 Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bull and a ram.

Y Balac hizo como le dijo Balaam, y ofrecieron Balac y Balaam un becerro y un carnero en cada altar.

3 Balaam said to Balak, “Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me. Whatever he shows me I will tell you.” He went to a bare height.

Y Balaam dijo a Balac: Pónte junto a tu holocausto, y yo iré, quizá Jehová me vendrá al encuentro, y cualquiera cosa que me mostrare yo te la denunciaré. Y así se fue solo.

4 God met Balaam, and he said to him, “I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.”

Y encontróse Dios con Balaam, y él le dijo: Siete altares he ordenado, y en cada altar he ofrecido un becerro, y un carnero.

5 Yahweh put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, “Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.”

Y Jehová puso palabra en la boca de Balaam, y díjole: Vuelve a Balac, y hablar le has así.

6 He returned to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, he, and all the princes of Moab.

Y volvió a él, y, he aquí, él estaba junto a su holocausto, él y todos los príncipes de Moab.

7 He took up his parable, and said, “From Aram has Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, defy Israel.

Y él tomó su parábola, y dijo: De Aram me trajo Balac rey de Moab, de los montes del oriente, diciendo: Ven, maldíceme a Jacob; y, ven, detesta a Israel.

8 How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? How shall I defy whom Yahweh has not defied?

¿Por qué maldeciré yo al que Dios no maldijo? ¿Y por qué detestaré yo al que Jehová no detestó?

9 For from the top of the rocks I see him. From the hills I see him. Behold, it is a people that dwells alone, and shall not be listed among the nations.

Porque de la cumbre de las peñas le veré, y desde los collados le miraré: he aquí un pueblo que habitará confiado, y no será contado entre las gentes.

10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, or count the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous! Let my last end be like his!”

¿Quién contará el polvo de Jacob, o el número del cuarto de Israel? Muera mi alma de la muerte de los rectos, y mi postrimería sea como él.

11 Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them altogether.”

Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: ¿Qué me has hecho? yo te he tomado para que maldigas a mis enemigos, y, he aquí, tú has bendecido bendiciendo.

12 He answered and said, “Must I not take heed to speak that which Yahweh puts in my mouth?”

Y él respondió, y dijo: ¿No guardaré yo lo que Jehová pusiere en mi boca para decirlo?

13 Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place, where you may see them. You shall see just part of them, and shall not see them all. Curse them from there for me.”

Y díjole Balac: Ruégote que vengas conmigo a otro lugar desde el cual lo veas: su cabo solamente verás que no lo verás todo, y desde allí me lo maldecirás.

14 He took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.

Y tomóle y llevóle al campo de Sofim a la cumbre de Fasga, y edificó siete altares, y ofreció un becerro y un carnero en cada altar.

15 He said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet God over there.”

Entonces él dijo a Balac: Pónte aquí junto a tu holocausto, y yo iré a encontrar a Dios allí.

16 Yahweh met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, “Return to Balak, and say this.”

Y Jehová se encontró con Balaam, y puso palabra en su boca, y díjole: Vuelve a Balac, y decir le has así.

17 He came to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. Balak said to him, “What has Yahweh spoken?”

Y vino a él, y he aquí, que él estaba junto a su holocausto, y con él los príncipes de Moab: y díjole Balac: ¿Qué ha dicho Jehová?

18 He took up his parable, and said, “Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, you son of Zippor.

Entonces él tomó su parábola, y dijo: Balac levántate, y oye: escucha mis palabras, hijo de Sefor:

19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and he won’t do it? Or has he spoken, and he won’t make it good?

Dios no es hombre para que mienta; ni hijo de hombre para que se arrepienta: ¿El dijo, y no hará? ¿Habló, y no lo ejecutará?

20 Behold, I have received a command to bless. He has blessed, and I can’t reverse it.

He aquí, yo he tomado bendición; y él bendijo, y no la revocaré.

21 He has not seen iniquity in Jacob. Neither has he seen perverseness in Israel. Yahweh his God is with him. The shout of a king is among them.

No ha mirado iniquidad en Jacob, ni ha visto rebelión en Israel, Jehová su Dios es con él, y jubilación de rey en él.

22 God brings them out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox.

Dios los ha sacado de Egipto, tiene fuerzas como el unicornio.

23 Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob; neither is there any divination with Israel. Now it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘What has God done!’

Porque en Jacob no hay agüero, ni adivinación en Israel: como ahora será dicho de Jacob y de Israel lo que ha hecho Dios.

24 Behold, a people rises up as a lioness. As a lion he lifts himself up. He shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.”

He aquí el pueblo, que como león se levantará, y como león, se ensalzará; no se echará, hasta que coma la presa, y beba sangre de muertos.

25 Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.”

Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: Si maldiciendo no lo maldices, no lo bendigas tampoco bendiciendo.

26 But Balaam answered Balak, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘All that Yahweh speaks, that I must do’?”

Y Balaam respondió, y dijo a Balac: ¿No te he dicho, que todo lo que Jehová me dijere, aquello tengo de hacer?

27 Balak said to Balaam, “Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there.”

Y dijo Balac a Balaam: Ruégote que vengas, llevarte he a otro lugar; por ventura parecerá bien a Dios que desde allí me lo maldigas.

28 Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks down on the desert.

Y Balac tomó a Balaam y trájole a la cumbre de Fogor, que mira hacia Jesimón.

29 Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

Entonces Balaam dijo a Balac: Edifícame aquí siete altares, y aparéjame aquí siete becerros, y siete carneros.

30 Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.

Y Balac hizo como Balaam le dijo; y ofreció un becerro y un carnero en cada altar.
