Nehemiah 5
1 Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews.
১পরে নিজের ভাই ইহুদীদের বিরুদ্ধে লোকদের ও তাদের স্ত্রীদের মহাকোলাহল শোনা গেল।
2 For there were some who said, “We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”
২কেউ কেউ বলল, “আমরা ছেলেমেয়ে সমেত অনেক জন, খাবার খেয়ে বেঁচে থাকার জন্য শস্য নেব।”
3 There were also some who said, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”
৩আর কেউ কেউ বলল, “আমরা নিজের জমি, আঙ্গুর ক্ষেত ও বাড়ি বন্ধক দিচ্ছি দূর্ভিক্ষের দিনের শস্য নেব।”
4 There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.
৪আর কেউ কেউ বলল, “রাজকরের জন্য আমরা নিজের নিজের জমি ও আঙ্গুর ক্ষেত বন্ধক রেখে রূপা নিয়েছি।
5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold, we bring our sons and our daughters into bondage to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. It is also not in our power to help it, because other men have our fields and our vineyards.”
৫কিন্তু আমাদের মাংস আমাদের ভাইদের মাংসের সমান, আমাদের ছেলেমেয়েরা তাদের ছেলে মেয়েদের সমান; তবুও সত্বেও দেখুন, আমরা নিজের নিজের ছেলেমেয়েদেরকে দাসত্বে আনছি, আমাদের মেয়েদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ তো দাসী হয়ে গেছে; আমাদের কিছু ক্ষমতা নেই এবং আমাদের জমি ও আঙ্গুর ক্ষেত সব অন্য লোকদের হয়েছে।”
6 I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
৬তখন আমি তাদের মহাকোলাহল ও এই সব কথা শুনে ভীষণ রেগে গেলাম।
7 Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, “You exact usury, everyone of his brother.” I held a great assembly against them.
৭আর আমি মনে মনে ভেবে দেখলাম এবং প্রধান লোকদেরকে শাসনকর্তাদেরকে তিরস্কার করে বললাম, “তোমরা প্রত্যেকজন নিজের নিজের ভাইয়ের কাছে সুদ আদায় করে থাক।” পরে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে মহা সমাজ জড়ো করলাম।
8 I said to them, “We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found not a word to say.
৮আর আমি তাদেরকে বললাম, “জাতিদের কাছে আমাদের যে যিহূদী ভাইয়েরা বিক্রি হয়েছিল, তাদেরকে আমরা ক্ষমতা অনুসারে মুক্ত করেছি; এখন তোমাদের ভাইদেরকে তোমরাই কি বিক্রি করবে? আমাদের কাছে কি তাদেরকে বিক্রি করা হবে?” তাতে তারা চুপ হল, কিছু উত্তর দিতে পারল না।
9 Also I said, “The thing that you do is not good. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?
৯আমি আরও বললাম, “তোমাদের এই কাজ ভালো না; আমাদের শত্রু জাতিদের টিটকারির জন্য তোমরা আমাদের ঈশ্বরের ভয়ে চলবে না?
10 I likewise, my brothers and my servants, lend them money and grain. Please let us stop this usury.
১০আমি, আমার ভাই ও যুবকেরা, আমরাও সুদের জন্য ওদেরকে রূপা ও শস্য ঋণ দিই; এস, আমরা এই সুদ ছেড়ে দিই।
11 Please restore to them, even today, their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that you are charging them.”
১১তোমরা ওদের শস্য ক্ষেত, আঙ্গুর ক্ষেত, জিতবৃক্ষের বাগান ও ঘর বাড়ি সব এবং রূপোর, শস্যের, আঙ্গুর রসের ও তেলের শতকরা যে বাড়িয়ে নিয়ে তাদেরকে ঋণ দিয়েছ, তা আজই তাদেরকে ফিরিয়ে দাও।”
12 Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them. We will do so, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.
১২তখন তারা বলল, “আমরা তা ফিরিয়ে দেব। তাদের কাছে কিছুই চাইব না; আপনি যা বলবেন, সেই অনুযায়ী করব।” তখন আমি যাজকদের ডেকে এই প্রতিজ্ঞা অনুসারে কাজ করতে ওদেরকে শপথ করালাম।
13 Also I shook out my lap, and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that doesn’t perform this promise; even may he be shaken out and emptied like this.” All the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh. The people did according to this promise.
১৩আবার আমি আমার পোশাকের সামনের দিকটা ঝেড়ে বললাম, “যারা এই প্রতিজ্ঞা পালন না করে, ঈশ্বর তাদের ঘর বাড়ি ও পরিশ্রমের ফল থেকে তাকে এই ভাবে ঝেড়ে ফেলুন, এই ভাবে সে ঝাড়া ও শূন্য হোক।” তাতে সমস্ত সমাজ বলল, “আমেন,” এবং সদাপ্রভুর ধন্যবাদ করল। পরে লোকেরা সেই প্রতিজ্ঞা অনুসারে কাজ করলেন।
14 Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor.
১৪সুতরাং আমি যে দিনের যিহূদা দেশে তাদের শাসনকর্ত্তা পদে নিযুক্ত হয়েছিলাম, সেই থেকে অর্থাৎ অর্তক্ষস্ত রাজার কুড়ি বছর থেকে বত্রিশ বছর পর্যন্ত, বারো বছর আমি ও আমার ভাইরা রাজ্যপালের খাবার গ্রহণ করিনি।
15 But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, plus forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people, but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.
১৫আমার আগে যে সব রাজ্যপাল ছিলেন, তারা লোকদের ভারী বোঝা চাপিয়ে দিতেন এবং তাদের থেকে নগদ চল্লিশ শেকল রূপা ছাড়াও খাবার ও আঙ্গুর রস নিতেন, এমনকি, তাঁদের চাকরেরাও লোকদের উপরে নিপীড়ন করত; কিন্তু আমি ঈশ্বর ভয়ের জন্য তা করতাম না।
16 Yes, I also continued in the work of this wall. We didn’t buy any land. All my servants were gathered there to the work.
১৬আবার আমি এই দেওয়ালের কাজেও নিযুক্ত ছিলাম; আমরা জমি কিনতাম না এবং আমার সমস্ত যুবক সেই জায়গায় কাজে জড়ো হত।
17 Moreover there were at my table, of the Jews and the rulers, one hundred fifty men, in addition to those who came to us from among the nations that were around us.
১৭আর আমাদের চারদিকে অবস্থিত জাতিদের মধ্যে থেকে যারা আমাদের কাছে আসত, তাদের ছাড়া যিহূদী ও শাসনকর্ত্তা দেড়শো জন আমার সঙ্গে টেবিলে বসতো।
18 Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep. Also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days a store of all sorts of wine. Yet for all this, I didn’t demand the governor’s pay, because the bondage was heavy on this people.
১৮সেই দিন প্রত্যেক দিন এই সব খাবার তৈরী হত, একটা ষাঁড়, ছয়টা বাছাই করা ভেড়া ও কতগুলো পাখি আমার জন্য রান্না করা হত, আর প্রতি দশ দিন পর সব রকমের আঙ্গুর রস, এই সমস্ত সত্বেও লোকদের দাসত্বের ভার বেশি হওয়াতে আমি রাজ্যপালের খাবার চাইতাম না।
19 Remember me, my God, for all the good that I have done for this people.
১৯হে আমার ঈশ্বর, আমি এই লোকদের জন্য যে সব কাজ করেছি, মঙ্গলের জন্য আমার পক্ষে তা মনে কর।
