Matthew 3
1 In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
En aquellos días llegó Juan el Bautista, quien proclamaba en el desierto de Judea:
2 “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
Cambien de mente, porque el reino celestial llegó.
3 For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready! Make his paths straight!”
Pues yo soy el anunciado por el profeta Isaías: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Preparen el camino del Señor. Allanen sus sendas.
4 Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
Juan estaba vestido con pelo de camello y un cinturón de cuero. Su comida era saltamontes y miel silvestre.
5 Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
Acudía a él Jerusalén, toda Judea y toda la región de alrededor del Jordán.
6 They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
Confesaban públicamente sus pecados y los bautizaba en el río Jordán.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Cuando vio que muchos fariseos y saduceos acudían a su bautismo, les dijo: ¡Generación de víboras! ¿Quién les enseñó a huir de la ira que viene?
8 Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!
Produzcan frutos dignos de cambio de mente,
9 Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
y no supongan que puedan decir: A Abraham tenemos como padre. Porque les digo que Dios puede levantar de estas piedras hijos a Abraham.
10 Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
Ya el hacha está puesta sobre la raíz de los árboles, de modo que todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado al fuego.
11 “I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
Yo ciertamente los bautizo con agua para [indicar] el cambio de mente, pero el que viene después de mí es más poderoso que yo. No soy digno de llevar sus sandalias. Él los bautizará con Espíritu Santo y fuego.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
Tiene su soplador en la mano y limpiará bien su era. Recogerá su trigo en el granero y quemará la concha partida del grano con fuego inextinguible.
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
Entonces llegó Jesús desde Galilea al Jordán donde estaba Juan, para que lo bautizara.
14 But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”
Pero [Juan] trataba de impedirle: Yo necesito que Tú me bautices, ¿y Tú vienes a mí?
15 But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.
Jesús le respondió: Permítelo ahora, porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces se lo permitió.
16 Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
Cuando Jesús fue bautizado, salió enseguida del agua. Los cielos se abrieron. Vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como una paloma y se posó sobre Él.
17 Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
[Se oyó] una voz celestial que dijo: Este es mi Hijo amado, en Quien me complací.
