Matthew 23
1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
അനന്തരം യേശു പുരുഷാരത്തോടും തന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരോടും പറഞ്ഞതു:
2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരും മോശെയുടെ പീഠത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.
3 All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
ആകയാൽ അവർ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നതു ഒക്കെയും പ്രമാണിച്ചു ചെയ്‌വിൻ; അവരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികൾപോലെ ചെയ്യരുതു താനും. അവർ പറയുന്നതല്ലാതെ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
അവർ ഘനമുള്ള ചുമടുകളെ കെട്ടി മനുഷ്യരുടെ തോളിൽ വെക്കുന്നു; ഒരു വിരൽ കൊണ്ടുപോലും അവയെ തൊടുവാൻ അവൎക്കു മനസ്സില്ല.
5 But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികൾ എല്ലാം മനുഷ്യർ കാണേണ്ടതിന്നത്രേ ചെയ്യുന്നതു; തങ്ങളുടെ മന്ത്രപ്പട്ട വീതിയാക്കി തൊങ്ങൽ വലുതാക്കുന്നു.
6 and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
അത്താഴത്തിൽ പ്രധാനസ്ഥലവും പള്ളിയിൽ മുഖ്യാസനവും
7 the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
അങ്ങാടിയിൽ വന്ദനവും മനുഷ്യർ റബ്ബീ എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നതും അവൎക്കു പ്രിയമാകുന്നു.
8 But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
നിങ്ങളോ റബ്ബീ എന്നു പേർ എടുക്കരുതു. ഒരുത്തൻ അത്രേ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഗുരു; നിങ്ങളോ എല്ലാവരും സഹോദരന്മാർ.
9 Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
ഭൂമിയിൽ ആരെയും പിതാവു എന്നു വിളിക്കരുതു; ഒരുത്തൻ അത്രേ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവു, സ്വൎഗ്ഗസ്ഥൻ തന്നേ.
10 Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
നിങ്ങൾ നായകന്മാർ എന്നും പേർ എടുക്കരുതു; ഒരുത്തൻ അത്രേ നിങ്ങളുടെ നായകൻ, ക്രിസ്തു തന്നെ.
11 But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
നിങ്ങളിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷക്കാരൻ ആകേണം.
12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
തന്നെത്താൻ ഉയൎത്തുന്നവൻ എല്ലാം താഴ്ത്തപ്പെടും; തന്നെത്താൻ താഴ്ത്തുന്നവൻ എല്ലാം ഉയൎത്തപ്പെടും.
13 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ മനുഷ്യൎക്കു സ്വൎഗ്ഗരാജ്യം അടെച്ചുകളയുന്നു; നിങ്ങൾ കടക്കുന്നില്ല, കടക്കുന്നവരെ കടപ്പാൻ സമ്മതിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല. [കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ വിധവമാരുടെ വീടുകളെ വിഴുങ്ങുകയും ഉപായരൂപേണ ദീൎഘമായി പ്രാൎത്ഥിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഇതു ഹേതുവായി നിങ്ങൾക്കു കടുമയേറിയ ശിക്ഷാവിധി വരും.]
14 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ ഒരുത്തനെ മതത്തിൽ ചേൎക്കുവാൻ കടലും കരയും ചുറ്റി നടക്കുന്നു;
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
ചേൎന്നശേഷം അവനെ നിങ്ങളെക്കാൾ ഇരട്ടിച്ച നരകയോഗ്യൻ ആക്കുന്നു. (Geenna g1067)
16 “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
ആരെങ്കിലും മന്ദിരത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്താൽ ഏതുമില്ല എന്നും മന്ദിരത്തിലെ സ്വൎണ്ണത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ കടക്കാരൻ എന്നും പറയുന്ന കുരുടന്മാരായ വഴികാട്ടികളേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം.
17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
മൂഢന്മാരും കുരുടുന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, ഏതു വലിയതു? സ്വൎണ്ണമോ സ്വൎണ്ണത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്ന മന്ദിരമോ?
18 And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
യാഗപീഠത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്താൽ ഏതുമില്ല; അതിന്മേലുള്ള വഴിപാടു ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ കടക്കാരൻ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു.
19 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
കുരുടന്മാരായുള്ളോരേ, ഏതു വലിയതു? വഴിപാടോ വഴിപാടിനെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്ന യാഗപീഠമോ?
20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
ആകയാൽ യാഗപീഠത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ അതിനെയും അതിന്മേലുള്ള സകലത്തെയും ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
മന്ദിരത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ അതിനെയും അതിൽ വസിക്കുന്നവനെയും ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
22 He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
സ്വൎഗ്ഗത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യംചെയ്യുന്നവൻ, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തെയും അതിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നവനെയും ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ തുളസി, ചതകുപ്പ, ജീരകം ഇവയിൽ പതാരം കൊടുക്കയും ന്യായം, കരുണ, വിശ്വസ്തത ഇങ്ങനെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ ഘനമേറിയവ ത്യജിച്ചുകളകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. അതു ചെയ്കയും ഇതു ത്യജിക്കാതിരിക്കയും വേണം.
24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
കുരുടന്മാരായ വഴികാട്ടികളേ, നിങ്ങൾ കൊതുകിനെ അരിച്ചെടുക്കയും ഒട്ടകത്തെ വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ കിണ്ടികിണ്ണങ്ങളുടെ പുറം വെടിപ്പാക്കുന്നു; അകത്തോ കവൎച്ചയും അതിക്രമവും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
26 You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
കുരുടനായ പരീശനെ, കിണ്ടികിണ്ണങ്ങളുടെ പുറം വെടിപ്പാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു മുമ്പെ അവയുടെ അകം വെടിപ്പാക്കുക.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; വെള്ളതേച്ച ശവക്കല്ലറകളോടു നിങ്ങൾ ഒത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; അവ പുറമെ അഴകായി ശോഭിക്കുന്നെങ്കിലും അകമെ ചത്തവരുടെ അസ്ഥികളും സകലവിധ അശുദ്ധിയും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ പുറമെ നിങ്ങൾ നീതിമാന്മാർ എന്നു മനുഷ്യൎക്കു തോന്നുന്നു; അകമെയോ കപടഭക്തിയും അധൎമ്മവും നിറഞ്ഞവരത്രേ.
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളെ പണിതും നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളെ അലങ്കരിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു:
30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
ഞങ്ങൾ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാലത്തു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുന്നതിൽ കൂട്ടാളികൾ ആകയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറയുന്നു.
31 Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
അങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങൾ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊന്നവരുടെ മക്കൾ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ തന്നേ സാക്ഷ്യം പറയുന്നുവല്ലോ.
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ അളവുനിങ്ങൾ പൂരിച്ചു കൊൾവിൻ.
33 You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
പാമ്പുകളേ, സൎപ്പസന്തതികളേ, നിങ്ങൾ നരകവിധി എങ്ങനെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോകും? (Geenna g1067)
34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെയും ജ്ഞാനികളെയും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയക്കുന്നു; അവരിൽ ചിലരെ നിങ്ങൾ ക്രൂശിച്ചു കൊല്ലുകയും ചിലരെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പള്ളികളിൽ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അടിക്കയും പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ഓടിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
നീതിമാനായ ഹാബേലിന്റെ രക്തംമുതൽ നിങ്ങൾ മന്ദിരത്തിന്നും യാഗപീഠത്തിന്നും നടുവിൽവെച്ചു കൊന്നവനായി ബെരെഖ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ സെഖൎയ്യാവിന്റെ രക്തംവരെ ഭൂമിയിൽ ചൊരിഞ്ഞ നീതിയുള്ള രക്തം എല്ലാം നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വരേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.
36 Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
ഇതൊക്കെയും ഈ തലമുറമേൽ വരും എന്നു ഞാൻ സത്യമായിട്ടു നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
യെരൂശലേമേ, യെരൂശലേമേ, പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുകയും നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരെ കല്ലെറികയും ചെയ്യുന്നവളേ, കോഴി തന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ചിറകിൻ കീഴിൽ ചേൎക്കുംപോലെ നിന്റെ മക്കളെ ചേൎത്തുകൊൾവാൻ എനിക്കു എത്രവട്ടം മനസ്സായിരുന്നു; നിങ്ങൾക്കോ മനസ്സായില്ല.
38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനം ശൂന്യമായ്തീരും.
39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
കൎത്താവിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ വരുന്നവൻ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറയുവോളം നിങ്ങൾ ഇനി എന്നെ കാണുകയില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
