Matthew 23
1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
૧ત્યારે ઈસુએ લોકોને તથા પોતાના શિષ્યોને કહ્યું કે,
2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
૨“શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ મૂસાના આસન પર બેસે છે;
3 All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
૩એ માટે જે કંઈ તેઓ તમને ફરમાવે, તે કરો તથા પાળો; પણ તેઓનાં કાર્યોને ન અનુસરો, કેમ કે તેઓ કહે છે, તે પ્રમાણે કરતા નથી.
4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
૪કેમ કે ભારે અને પાળવા મુશ્કેલ પડે એવા બોજા તેઓ માણસોની પીઠ પર ચઢાવે છે, પણ તેઓ પોતે પોતાની આંગળીથી પણ તેને ખસેડવા ઇચ્છતા નથી.’
5 But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
૫લોકો તેઓને જુએ તે હેતુથી તેઓ પોતાનાં સઘળાં કામ કરે છે; તેઓ પોતાનાં સ્મરણપત્રોની પેટી પહોળી બનાવે છે તથા પોતાનાં વસ્ત્રોની કોરની ઝાલર વધારે છે.
6 and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
૬વળી જમણવારોમાં મુખ્ય જગ્યાઓ, સભાસ્થાનોમાં મુખ્ય આસનો,
7 the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
૭તથા ચોકમાં સલામો તથા માણસો તેઓને ‘ગુરુ’ કહે, તેવું તેઓ ચાહે છે.
8 But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
૮પણ તમે પોતાને ‘ગુરુ’ ન કહેવડાવો; કેમ કે તમારો એક જ ગુરુ છે અને તમે સઘળાં ભાઈઓ છો.
9 Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
૯પૃથ્વી પર તમે કોઈ માણસને તમારા પિતા ન કહો, કેમ કે એક જે સ્વર્ગમાં છે, તે તમારા પિતા છે.
10 Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
૧૦તમે પોતાને ‘શિક્ષક’ પણ ન કહેવડાવો, કેમ કે એક, જે ખ્રિસ્ત, તે તમારા શિક્ષક છે.
11 But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
૧૧પણ તમારામાં જે મોટો છે તે તમારો ચાકર થશે.
12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
૧૨જે કોઈ પોતાને ઊંચો કરશે, તેને નીચો કરાશે; જે કોઈ પોતાને નીચો કરશે, તેને ઊંચો કરાશે.
13 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
૧૩ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે લોકોની સામે તમે સ્વર્ગનું રાજ્ય બંધ કરો છો; કેમ કે તેમાં તમે પોતે પેસતા નથી, અને જેઓ પ્રવેશવા ચાહે છે તેઓને તમે પ્રવેશવા દેતા નથી.
14 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
૧૪(ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તમે વિધવાઓનાં ઘર ખાઈ જાઓ છો, દેખાડા માટે લાંબી પ્રાર્થનાઓ કરો છો, તે માટે તમે મોટી સજા ભોગવશો.)
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
૧૫ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે એક શિષ્ય બનાવવા સારુ તમે સમુદ્ર તથા પૃથ્વીમાં ફર્યા કરો છો; અને તેવું થાય છે ત્યારે તમે તેને તમારા કરતાં બમણો નરકનો દીકરો બનાવો છો. (Geenna g1067)
16 “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
૧૬ઓ અંધજનોને દોરનારાઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે; તમે કહો છો કે, ‘જો કોઈ ભક્તિસ્થાનના સમ ખાય, તો તેમાં કંઈ નહિ; પણ જો કોઈ ભક્તિસ્થાનના સોનાનાં સમ ખાય તો તેથી બંધાયેલો છે.’
17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
૧૭ઓ મૂર્ખો તથા અંધજનો, વિશેષ મોટું કયું? સોનું કે સોનાને પવિત્ર કરનારું ભક્તિસ્થાન?
18 And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
૧૮અને તમે કહો છો કે, ‘જો કોઈ યજ્ઞવેદીના સમ ખાય તો તેમાં કંઈ નહિ; પણ જો કોઈ તે પરના અર્પણના સમ ખાય તો તે તેથી બંધાયલો છે.’
19 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
૧૯ઓ અંધજનો, વિશેષ મોટું કયું? અર્પણ કે અર્પણને પવિત્ર કરનારી યજ્ઞવેદી?
20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
૨૦એ માટે જે કોઈ યજ્ઞવેદીના સમ ખાય છે, તે તેના તથા જે બધું તેના પર છે તેના પણ સમ ખાય છે.
21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
૨૧જે કોઈ ભક્તિસ્થાનના સમ ખાય છે, તે તેના તથા તેમાં જે રહે છે તેના પણ સમ ખાય છે.
22 He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
૨૨જે સ્વર્ગના સમ ખાય છે, તે ઈશ્વરના રાજ્યાસનના તથા તે પર બિરાજનારના પણ સમ ખાય છે.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
૨૩ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ, ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે ફુદીનાનો, સૂવાનો તથા જીરાનો દસમો ભાગ તમે આપો છો; પણ નિયમશાસ્ત્રની અગત્યની વાતો, એટલે ન્યાય, દયા તથા વિશ્વાસ, તે તમે પડતાં મૂક્યાં છે; તમારે આ કરવાં, અને એની સાથે તે પણ પડતાં મૂકવા જોઈતાં ન હતાં.
24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
૨૪ઓ અંધજનોને દોરનારાઓ, તમે માખીને દૂર કાઢો છો, પણ ઊંટને ગળી જાઓ છો!
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
૨૫ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તમે થાળી અને વાટકો બહારથી સાફ કરો છો, પણ તેમની અંદર જુલમ તથા ભોગવિલાસ ભરેલા છે.
26 You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
૨૬ઓ આંધળા ફરોશી, તું પહેલાં થાળી અને વાટકો અંદરથી સાફ કર કે, જેથી તે બહારથી પણ સાફ થઈ જાય.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
૨૭ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તમે ધોળેલી કબરના જેવા છો, જે બહારથી શોભાયમાન દેખાય છે ખરી, પણ અંદર મૃતકનાં હાડકાં તથા દરેક અશુદ્ધિથી ભરેલી છે.
28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
૨૮તેમ તમે પણ માણસોની આગળ બહારથી ન્યાયી દેખાઓ છો ખરા, પણ અંદર ઢોંગથી તથા દુષ્ટતાથી ભરેલા છો.
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
૨૯ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તમે પ્રબોધકોની કબરો બાંધો છો અને ન્યાયીઓની કબરો શણગારો છો.
30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
૩૦તમે કહો છો કે, ‘જો અમે અમારા પૂર્વજોના સમયોમાં હોત, તો તેઓની સાથે પ્રબોધકોની હત્યામાં ભાગીદાર ન થાત.’
31 Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
૩૧તેથી તમે પોતાના સંબંધી સાક્ષી આપો છો કે પ્રબોધકોને મારી નાખનારાઓના દીકરા તમે જ છો.
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
૩૨તો તમારા પૂર્વજોના બાકી રહેલાં માપ પૂરા કરો.
33 You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
૩૩ઓ સર્પો, સાપોના વંશ, નર્કની શિક્ષાથી તમે કેવી રીતે બચશો? (Geenna g1067)
34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
૩૪તેથી જુઓ, પ્રબોધકોને, જ્ઞાનીઓને તથા શાસ્ત્રીઓને હું તમારી પાસે મોકલું છું, તમે તેઓમાંના કેટલાકને મારી નાખશો, વધસ્તંભે જડશો, તેઓમાંના કેટલાકને તમારાં સભાસ્થાનોમાં કોરડા મારશો અને નગરેનગર તેઓની પાછળ લાગશો.
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
૩૫કે ન્યાયી હાબેલના લોહીથી તે બારાખ્યાના દીકરા ઝખાર્યા, જેને મંદિરની તથા યજ્ઞવેદીની વચ્ચે તમે મારી નાખ્યો હતો, તેના લોહી સુધી જે બધા ન્યાયીઓનું લોહી પૃથ્વી પર વહેવડાવવામાં આવ્યું છે, તે તમારા પર આવે.
36 Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
૩૬હું તમને નિશ્ચે કહું છું કે, એ બધું આ પેઢીને શિરે આવશે.
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
૩૭ઓ યરુશાલેમ, યરુશાલેમ, પ્રબોધકોને મારી નાખનાર, તારી પાસે મોકલેલાઓને પથ્થરે મારનાર! જેમ મરઘી પોતાનાં બચ્ચાંને પાંખો તળે એકઠાં કરે છે, તેમ તારાં છોકરાંને એકઠાં કરવાનું મેં કેટલી વાર ચાહ્યું, પણ તમે ચાહ્યું નહિ!
38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
૩૮જુઓ, તમારે સારુ તમારું ઘર ઉજ્જડ કરી દીધું.
39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
૩૯કેમ કે હું તમને કહું છું કે, ‘જ્યાં સુધી તમે એમ નહિ કહો કે, ‘પ્રભુને નામે જે આવે છે તે આશીર્વાદિત છે, ત્યાં સુધી હવેથી તમે મને નહિ જ દેખશો.’”
