Matthew 23
1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
Hierauf redete Jesus zu den Massen und zu seinen Jüngern
2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
also: Auf den Stuhl Moses haben sich die Schriftgelehrten und die Pharisäer gesetzt.
3 All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
Alles nun, was sie euch sagen, das thut und haltet, aber nach ihren Werken thut nicht; denn sie sagen es und thun es nicht.
4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
Sie binden aber schwere Lasten und legen sie den Menschen auf die Schulter, sie selbst aber mögen sie nicht mit dem Finger rühren.
5 But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
Alle ihre Werke aber thun sie zur Schau vor den Leuten; denn sie machen ihre Gebetszettel breit und die Kleiderquasten lang.
6 and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
Sie sind aber auf den ersten Platz bei den Gastmählern aus, und auf die Vordersitze in den Synagogen,
7 the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
und die Begrüßungen an den öffentlichen Plätzen, und darauf, sich von den Leuten Rabbi nennen zu lassen.
8 But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
Ihr aber sollt euch nicht Rabbi nennen lassen; denn einer ist euer Meister, ihr aber seid alle Brüder.
9 Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
Und niemand auf der Erde sollt ihr euren Vater nennen, denn einer ist euer Vater, der himmlische.
10 Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
Auch Führer sollt ihr euch nicht nennen lassen; denn einer ist euer Führer, der Christus.
11 But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
Der größte aber unter euch soll euer Diener sein.
12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Wer aber sich selbst erhöht, der wird erniedrigt werden, und wer sich selbst erniedrigt, der wird erhöht werden.
13 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
Wehe aber euch, ihr Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler, daß ihr das Reich der Himmel zuschließet vor den Menschen; denn ihr kommt nicht hinein, und laßt auch andere nicht hineinkommen, die hineingehen wollten.
14 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler, daß ihr die Häuser der Witwen aussauget, und verrichtet lange Gebete zum Schein; ihr werdet nur um so schwerer in's Gericht kommen.
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler, daß ihr Meer und Festland durchstreifet, um einen einzigen Proselyten zu machen; und wird es, so macht ihr aus ihm einen Sohn der Hölle zweimal so arg als ihr. (Geenna g1067)
16 “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
Wehe euch, ihr blinde Führer, die ihr sagt: wer beim Tempel schwört, das gilt nichts; wer aber beim Golde des Tempels schwört, der ist verpflichtet.
17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
Ihr Thoren und Blinde, was ist denn mehr, das Gold oder der Tempel, der das Gold geheiligt hat?
18 And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
Ferner: wer beim Altar schwört, das gilt nichts; wer aber bei der Gabe, die darauf ist, schwört, der ist verpflichtet.
19 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
Ihr Blinde, was ist denn mehr, die Gabe, oder der Altar, der die Gabe heiligt?
20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
Wer denn beim Altar schwört, der schwört bei ihm und bei allem, was darauf ist;
21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
und wer beim Tempel schwört, der schwört bei ihm und bei dem, der ihn bewohnt.
22 He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
Und wer beim Himmel schwört, der schwört beim Throne Gottes und bei dem, der darauf sitzt.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler, ihr verzehntet Münze, Dill und Kümmel, und lasset dahinten das Schwere vom Gesetz, das Recht, die Barmherzigkeit und die Treue. Dieses galt es zu thun und jenes nicht lassen.
24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
Ihr blinde Führer, die ihr die Mücken seihet, daß Kamel aber verschlucket.
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler, daß ihr Becher und Schüssel auswendig reinigt, inwendig aber sind sie voll von Raub und Unmäßigkeit.
26 You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
Du blinder Pharisäer, reinige zuerst was drinnen ist im Becher, damit auch das auswendige rein sei.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler, daß ihr ähnlich seid getünchten Gräbern, die da von außen anmutig aussehen, inwendig aber sind sie voll von Totenbeinen und lauter Unreinigkeit.
28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
So habt auch ihr von außen bei den Menschen den Schein von Gerechten, inwendig aber seid ihr voll Heuchelei und Frevel.
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler, daß ihr die Gräber der Propheten aufbaut und die Denkmäler der Gerechten schmückt,
30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
und saget: wenn wir in den Tagen unsrer Väter gelebt hätten, wir hätten uns nicht mit ihnen des Blutes der Propheten schuldig gemacht.
31 Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
So bezeugt ihr doch euch selbst, daß ihr die Söhne der Prophetenmörder seid.
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
Nun so machet das Maß eurer Väter voll.
33 You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
Ihr Schlangen und Otternbrut, wie wollt ihr fliehen vor dem Gerichte der Hölle? (Geenna g1067)
34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
Darum: ich sende zu euch Propheten und Weise und Schriftgelehrte; und ihr werdet die einen von ihnen töten und kreuzigen, und die andern geißeln in euren Synagogen, und verfolgen von Stadt zu Stadt,
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
auf daß über euch komme alles auf der Erde vergossene unschuldige Blut, vom Blute Abels des Gerechten an bis zu dem Blute das Zacharias, des Sohnes Barachias, den ihr getötet habt zwischen Tempel und Altar.
36 Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
Wahrlich, ich sage euch, das alles wird kommen über dieses Geschlecht.
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, die da tötet die Propheten und steinigt, die zu ihr gesandt sind, wie oft wollte ich deine Kinder versammeln, wie eine Henne ihre Küchlein sammelt unter ihre Flügel, und ihr habt nicht gewollt.
38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
Siehe, euer Haus werdet ihr dahin haben, verwaist,
39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
denn ich sage euch: nimmermehr sollt ihr mich sehen von jetzt an, bis daß ihr saget: gesegnet, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn.
