Luke 23
1 The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.
૧અને તેઓનો આખો સમુદાય ઊઠીને ઈસુને પિલાતની પાસે લઈ ગયા.
2 They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”
૨અને તેઓ તેમના પર એવો આરોપ મૂકવા લાગ્યા કે, ‘અમને એવું માલૂમ પડ્યું છે કે આ માણસ અમારા લોકોને ભુલાવે છે, અને કાઈસાર રાજાને કર આપવાની મના કરે છે, અને કહે છે કે, હું પોતે ખ્રિસ્ત એક રાજા છું.’”
3 Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”
૩અને પિલાતે ઈસુને પૂછ્યું, ‘શું તું યહૂદીઓનો રાજા છે?’ અને તેમણે તેનો ઉત્તર આપતા કહ્યું, ‘તમે કહો છો તે બરાબર છે.’”
4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
૪અને પિલાતે મુખ્ય યાજકોને તથા લોકોને કહ્યું, ‘આ માણસમાં મને કંઈ અપરાધ જણાતો નથી.’”
5 But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
૫પણ તેઓએ વિશેષ આગ્રહથી કહ્યું કે, ‘ગાલીલથી માંડીને અહીં સુધી આખા યહૂદિયામાં ઈસુ બોધ કરીને લોકોને ઉશ્કેરે છે.’”
6 But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
૬પણ પિલાતે તે સાંભળ્યું ત્યારે તેણે પૂછ્યું કે, શું, ‘આ માણસ ગાલીલના છે?’”
7 When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
૭અને ઈસુ હેરોદના અધિકાર નીચે છે એમ તેણે જાણ્યું, ત્યારે તેમને હેરોદની પાસે મોકલ્યા; હેરોદ પોતે પણ તે દિવસોમાં યરુશાલેમમાં હતો.
8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.
૮હવે હેરોદ ઈસુને જોઈને ઘણો ખુશ થયો; કેમ કે તેમના સંબંધી તેણે સાંભળ્યું હતું, માટે ઘણાં દિવસથી તે તેમને જોવા ઇચ્છતો હતો; અને તેના દેખતા તે કંઈ ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્ન કરશે એવી આશા તે રાખતો હતો.
9 He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.
૯હેરોદે તેમને ઘણી વાતો પૂછી, પણ ઈસુએ તેને કશો જવાબ આપ્યો નહિ.
10 The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.
૧૦અને મુખ્ય યાજકો તથા શાસ્ત્રીઓ તેમના ઉપર આવેશથી આરોપ મૂકતા હતા.
11 Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.
૧૧અને હેરોદે પોતાના સિપાઈઓ સહિત તેમનો તુચ્છકાર કરીને તથા મશ્કરી કરીને તેમને રાજવી વસ્ત્ર પહેરાવીને પિલાતની પાસે પાછા મોકલ્યા.
12 Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.
૧૨અને તે જ દિવસે પિલાત તથા હેરોદ એકબીજાના મિત્ર થયા; એ પહેલા તો તેઓ એકબીજા પર વેર રાખતા હતા.
13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
૧૩અને પિલાતે મુખ્ય યાજકોને તથા અધિકારીઓને તથા લોકને સમૂહમાં બોલાવીને
14 and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and behold, having examined him before you, I found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.
૧૪તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘આ માણસ લોકને ભુલાવે છે, એવું કહીને તમે તેમને મારી પાસે લાવ્યા છો; પણ, જુઓ, મેં તમારી આગળ ઈસુની તપાસ કર્યા છતાં, જે વાતોનો તમે તેમના પર આરોપ મૂકો છો તે સંબંધી કંઈ પણ અપરાધ ઈસુમાં મને જણાયો નથી.
15 Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.
૧૫તેમ જ હેરોદને પણ જણાયો નથી; કેમ કે તેણે તેમને અમારી પાસે પાછા મોકલ્યા; અને જુઓ, મરણદંડને યોગ્ય તેમણે કશું જ કર્યું નથી.
16 I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
૧૬માટે હું તેમને શિક્ષા કરીને છોડી દઈશ.’”
17 Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.
૧૭હવે પાસ્ખાપર્વ નિમિતે તેઓને સારુ કોઈ એક અપરાધીને છોડી દેવો પડતો હતો.
18 But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—
૧૮પણ તેઓએ ઊંચે અવાજે કહ્યું કે, ‘ઈસુને લઈ જાઓ, અને બરાબાસને અમારે સારુ છોડી દો.’”
19 one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.
૧૯એ બરાબાસ તો શહેરમાં કેટલાક દંગા તથા હત્યા કરવાને લીધે જેલમાં નંખાયો હતો.
20 Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,
૨૦ત્યારે ઈસુને છોડી દેવાની ઇચ્છા રાખીને પિલાત ફરીથી તેઓની સાથે બોલ્યો.
21 but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
૨૧પણ તેઓએ પોકારીને કહ્યું કે, ‘એને વધસ્તંભે જડાવો, વધસ્તંભે જડાવો.’”
22 He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
૨૨અને તેણે ત્રીજી વાર તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘શા માટે? તેણે શું ખોટું કર્યું છે? તેમનાંમાં મરણદંડને યોગ્ય મને કંઈ માલૂમ પડ્યું નથી; માટે હું તેને થોડી શિક્ષા કરીને મુક્ત કરી દઈશ.’”
23 But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
૨૩પણ તેઓએ મોટે અવાજે દુરાગ્રહથી માગ્યું કે ‘તેમને વધસ્તંભે જડાવો.’ અને છેવટે તેઓના ધાર્યા પ્રમાણે તેઓએ તેને મનાવ્યો.
24 Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
૨૪અને પિલાતે ફેંસલો કર્યો કે ‘તેઓના માગ્યા પ્રમાણે કરવામાં આવે.’”
25 He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.
૨૫અને દંગો તથા ખૂન કરવાને લીધે જે માણસ જેલમાં પુરાયો હતો, અને જેને તેઓએ માગ્યો હતો, તેને તેણે છોડી દીધો, પણ ઈસુને તેઓની ઇચ્છાને સ્વાધીન કર્યા.
26 When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it after Jesus.
૨૬અને તેઓ તેમને લઈ જતા હતા ત્યારે સિમોન નામે કુરેનીનો એક માણસ જે બહાર ગામથી આવતો હતો તેને તેઓએ પકડ્યો, અને તેના ખભા પર વધસ્તંભ ચઢાવ્યો, કે તે ઊંચકીને તે ઈસુની પાછળ ચાલે.
27 A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.
૨૭લોકો તેમ જ રડનારી તથા વિલાપ કરનારી સ્ત્રીઓ, સંખ્યાબંધ માણસો, ઈસુની પાછળ પાછળ ચાલતા હતા.
28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
૨૮પણ ઈસુએ તેઓની તરફ ફરીને કહ્યું કે, ‘યરુશાલેમની દીકરીઓ, મારે માટે રડો નહિ, પણ પોતાને માટે તથા તમારા બાળકોને માટે રડો.
29 For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’
૨૯કેમ કે એવા દિવસો આવશે કે જેમાં તેઓ કહેશે કે, જેઓ નિ: સંતાન છે તથા જેઓને પેટે કદી સંતાન થયું નથી, અને જેઓએ કદી સ્તનપાન કરાવ્યું નથી, તેઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે.’”
30 Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’
૩૦ત્યારે તેઓ પહાડોને કહેશે કે, ‘અમારા પર પડો’; અને ટેકરીઓને કહેશે કે, અમને ઢાંકી દો.’”
31 For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”
૩૧કેમ કે જો તેઓ લીલા ઝાડને આમ કરે છે તો સૂકાને શું કરશે?
32 There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.
૩૨બીજા બે માણસ, જે ગુનેગાર હતા, તેઓને મારી નાખવા સારુ તેમની સાથે લઈ જતા હતા.
33 When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
૩૩ખોપરી નામની જગ્યાએ તેઓ આવ્યા, ત્યારે તેઓએ ત્યાં તેમને તથા ગુનેગારોમાંના એકને જમણી તરફ, અને બીજાને ડાબી તરફ, વધસ્તંભે જડ્યાં.
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.
૩૪ઈસુએ કહ્યું, ‘હે પિતા, તેઓને માફ કરો, કેમ કે તેઓ જે કરે છે તે તેઓ જાણતા નથી.’ ચિઠ્ઠીઓ નાખીને તેઓએ તેમના વસ્ત્ર અંદરોઅંદર વહેંચી લીધા.
35 The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”
૩૫લોકો એ જોતાં ઊભા રહ્યા હતા. અને અધિકારીઓ પણ તેમનો તુચ્છકાર કરીને કહેતાં હતા કે, ‘તેમણે બીજાઓને બચાવ્યા; જો એ ઈશ્વરનો ખ્રિસ્ત, એટલે તેમનો પસંદ કરેલો હોય તો તે પોતાને બચાવે.’”
36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,
૩૬સૈનિકોએ પણ તેમની મશ્કરી કરી, અને પાસે આવીને સરકો આપવા લાગ્યા,
37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
૩૭અને કહ્યું કે, ‘જો તું યહૂદીઓનો રાજા હો તો પોતાને બચાવ.’”
38 An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
૩૮તેમના ઉપર એવો લેખ પણ લખેલો હતો કે, ‘આ યહૂદીઓના રાજા છે.
39 One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”
૩૯તેમની સાથે લટકાયેલા ગુનેગારોમાંના એકે તેમનું અપમાન કરીને કહ્યું કે, ‘શું તમે ખ્રિસ્ત નથી? તમે પોતાને તથા અમને બચાવો.’”
40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
૪૦પણ બીજાએ ઉત્તર આપતાં તેને ધમકાવીને કહ્યું કે, ‘તું તે જ શિક્ષા ભોગવે છે તે છતાં શું તું ઈશ્વરથી પણ બીતો નથી?’”
41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
૪૧આપણે તો વાજબી રીતે શિક્ષા ભોગવીએ છીએ, કેમ કે આપણા કામનું ઉચિત ફળ આપણે પામીએ છીએ; પણ એમણે તો કશું ખોટું કર્યું નથી.
42 He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
૪૨તેણે કહ્યું કે, ‘હે ઈસુ, તમે તમારા રાજ્યમાં આવો ત્યારે મને યાદ કરજો.’”
43 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
૪૩ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, હું તને નિશ્ચે કહું છું કે,’ આજ તું મારી સાથે પારાદૈસમાં હોઈશ.’”
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
૪૪હમણાં લગભગ બપોર થઈ હતી, અને બપોરના ત્રણ કલાક સુધી સૂર્યનું તેજ ઘેરાઈ જવાથી આખા દેશમાં અંધારપટ છવાયો.
45 The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
૪૫વળી સભાસ્થાનનો પડદો વચમાંથી ફાટી ગયો.
46 Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.
૪૬ઈસુએ મોટી બૂમ પાડી, અને કહ્યું કે,’ ઓ પિતા, હું મારો આત્મા આપના હાથમાં સોંપું છું;’ તે એમ કહીને મૃત્યુ પામ્યા.
47 When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.”
૪૭જે થયું હતું તે જોઈને સૂબેદારે ઈશ્વરનો મહિમા કરીને કહ્યું કે, ‘ખરેખર આ તો ન્યાયી માણસ હતા.’”
48 All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their breasts.
૪૮જે લોકો એ જોવા સારુ એકઠા થયા હતા તેઓ સઘળા, જે થએલું હતું તે જોઈને છાતી ફૂટતા કરતા પાછા ગયા.
49 All his acquaintances and the women who followed with him from Galilee stood at a distance, watching these things.
૪૯તેમના સઘળા ઓળખીતાઓ તથા જે સ્ત્રીઓ ગાલીલમાંથી તેમની પાછળ પાછળ આવી હતી, તેઓ દૂર ઊભા રહીને આ જોતાં હતાં.
50 Behold, there was a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man
૫૦હવે યૂસફ નામે ન્યાયસભાનો એક સભ્ય હતો. તે સારો તથા ન્યાયી માણસ હતો,
51 (he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom.
૫૧તે યહૂદીઓના એક શહેર અરિમથાઈનો હતો, તેણે ન્યાયસભાનો નિર્ણય તથા કામમાં સંમતિ આપી નહોતી. અને તે પણ ઈશ્વરના રાજ્યની રાહ જોતો હતો.
52 This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.
૫૨તેણે પિલાતની પાસે જઈને ઈસુનો મૃતદેહ માગ્યો.
53 He took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.
૫૩તેણે ઈસુના મૃતદેહને ઉતારીને શણના કાપડમાં વીંટીને ખડકમાં ખોદેલી કબરમાં મૂક્યો, જ્યાં કદી કોઈને દફનાવવામાં આવ્યો નહોતો.
54 It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.
૫૪તે દિવસ શુદ્ધિકરણનો હતો, અને વિશ્રામવાર નજીક આવ્યો હતો.
55 The women who had come with him out of Galilee followed after, and saw the tomb and how his body was laid.
૫૫જે સ્ત્રીઓ તેમની સાથે ગાલીલમાંથી આવી હતી, તેઓએ પણ પાછળ પાછળ જઈને કબર જોઈ, અને તેમનો મૃતદેહ શી રીતે મુકાયો હતો તે જોયું.
56 They returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
૫૬તેઓએ પાછા આવીને સુગંધી તથા અત્તર તૈયાર કર્યાં. આજ્ઞા પ્રમાણે વિશ્રામવારે તેઓએ વિશ્રામ લીધો.
