Luke 16
1 He also said to his disciples, “There was a certain rich man who had a manager. An accusation was made to him that this man was wasting his possessions.
Il disait aussi aux disciples: «Un homme riche avait un économe; cet économe lui fut dénoncé comme dissipant ses biens.
2 He called him, and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’
Il l'appela et lui dit: «Qu'est-ce que j'entends dire de toi? Rends compte de ton administration; car il n'est plus possible que tu administres désormais.» —
3 “The manager said within himself, ‘What will I do, seeing that my lord is taking away the management position from me? I don’t have strength to dig. I am ashamed to beg.
«Que ferai-je?» se dit en lui-même l'économe, «puisque mon maître me retire la gestion de ses biens. Travailler la terre, je n'en ai pas la force; mendier, j'en aurais honte.
4 I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from management, they may receive me into their houses.’
Je vois ce que je ferai pour que, destitué de mes fonctions, il se trouve des gens qui me reçoivent dans leurs maisons.»
5 Calling each one of his lord’s debtors to him, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe to my lord?’
Il convoqua l'un après l'autre chacun des débiteurs de son maître.»«Au premier il dit: «Combien dois-tu à mon maître?»
6 He said, ‘A hundred batos of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’
«Cent mesures d'huile», — «Voici ton billet, reprit l'économe, assieds-toi vite et écris: «cinquante».
7 Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred cors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’
Ensuite il dit à un autre: «Et toi, combien dois-tu?» Celui-là répondit: «Cent mesures de froment.» «Voici ton billet, reprit encore l'économe, et écris: «quatre-vingts».
8 “His lord commended the dishonest manager because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are, in their own generation, wiser than the children of the light. (aiōn g165)
«Le maître loua l'économe infidèle de ce qu'il avait agi avec, habileté; parce que les enfants de ce siècle sont, dans leur monde, plus avisés que les enfants de la lumière. (aiōn g165)
9 I tell you, make for yourselves friends by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when you fail, they may receive you into the eternal tents. (aiōnios g166)
Et moi, je vous dis: Du Mamôn de l'iniquité faites-vous des amis qui, lorsqu'il viendra à manquer, vous reçoivent dans les éternels tabernacles. (aiōnios g166)
10 He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
Qui est fidèle dans une très petite chose, l'est également dans une grande; qui est injuste dans une très petite chose, l'est également dans une grande.
11 If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
Si donc vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans le Mamôn injuste, qui vous confiera le véritable?
12 If you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?
Et si vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans le bien d'un autre, qui vous donnera ce qui est à vous?»
13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to one and despise the other. You aren’t able to serve God and Mammon.”
«Aucun domestique ne peut servir deux maîtres; ou bien, en effet, il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre; ou bien il s'attachera au premier et méprisera le second. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mamôn.»
14 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.
Les Pharisiens qui aiment l'argent entendaient tout cela et tournaient Jésus en dérision.
15 He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
«Vous, leur dit-il, vous voulez vous faire passer pour justes devant les hommes, mais Dieu connaît vos coeurs. Ce qui, d'après les hommes, est élevé, est, devant Dieu, une abomination.»
16 “The law and the prophets were until John. From that time the Good News of God’s Kingdom is preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
«Jusques à Jean, la Loi et les Prophètes; depuis, l'Évangile du Royaume de Dieu est annoncé et tous s'efforcent de s'en emparer.»
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tiny stroke of a pen in the law to fall.
«Plus facilement passeront le ciel et la terre que ne tombera un seul petit trait de la Loi.»
18 “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery. He who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.
«Quiconque répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre commet un adultère; et celui qui épouse une femme répudiée par son mari commet un adultère.»
19 “Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.
«Il y avait un riche qui était vêtu de pourpre et de lin, et qui menait tous les jours joyeuse et splendide vie.
20 A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was taken to his gate, full of sores,
Un pauvre nommé Lazare gisait à sa porte, couvert d'ulcères.
21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores.
Il aurait bien voulu se rassasier de ce qui tombait de la table du riche; mais les chiens eux-mêmes venaient lécher ses ulcères.
22 The beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
Or il arriva que le pauvre mourut, et qu'il fut transporté par les anges dans le sein d'Abraham. Le riche mourut aussi, et fut enseveli.
23 In Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom. (Hadēs g86)
Étant dans la Demeure-des-morts, et en proie aux tourments, il leva les yeux; il vit de loin Abraham et, dans son sein, Lazare. (Hadēs g86)
24 He cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.’
Alors il éleva la voix; il dit: «Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi; et envoie Lazare tremper dans l'eau le bout de son doigt pour rafraîchir ma langue, car je suis torturé dans ces flammes.»
25 “But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But here he is now comforted and you are in anguish.
«Mon enfant, lui répondit Abraham, souviens-toi que, en ta vie, tu as reçu tes biens; Lazare, dans la sienne, a eu des maux. Ici maintenant il est consolé, et toi tu es torturé.
26 Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that no one may cross over from there to us.’
En outre, un abîme immense est établi entre nous et vous, de sorte qu'il serait impossible à qui le voudrait soit d'aller vers vous de là où nous sommes, soit de venir vers nous de là où vous êtes.»
27 “He said, ‘I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house—
«Il reprit: «Père, envoie donc, je t'en supplie, Lazare dans la maison de mon père;
28 for I have five brothers—that he may testify to them, so they won’t also come into this place of torment.’
car j'ai cinq frères; il leur attestera ces choses afin qu'ils ne viennent pas, eux aussi, dans ce lieu de tourments.»
29 “But Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’
Mais Abraham lui répondit: «Ils ont «Moïse et les Prophètes»; qu'ils les écoutent!» —
30 “He said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’
«Non, père Abraham, continua l'autre, mais si, de chez les morts, quelqu'un va vers eux, ils se repentiront.»
31 “He said to him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.’”
Abraham lui dit alors: «S'ils n'écoutent ni «Moïse, » ni «les Prophètes, » quand même quelqu'un ressusciterait d'entre les morts, ils ne seraient pas persuadés.»
