Luke 16
1 He also said to his disciples, “There was a certain rich man who had a manager. An accusation was made to him that this man was wasting his possessions.
Jésus dit aussi à ses disciples: «Un homme riche avait un économe qu'on lui dénonça comme dilapidant ses biens.
2 He called him, and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’
Il le fit venir, et lui dit: «Qu'est-ce que j'entends dire de toi? Rends-moi compte de ta gestion, car tu ne pourras plus gérer mes biens.»
3 “The manager said within himself, ‘What will I do, seeing that my lord is taking away the management position from me? I don’t have strength to dig. I am ashamed to beg.
L'économe dit en lui-même: «Que ferai-je, puisque mon maître m'ôte la gestion de ses biens? — Bêcher? je n'en ai pas la force. — Mendier? j'en ai honte...
4 I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from management, they may receive me into their houses.’
je sais ce que je ferai, afin que, lorsque j'aurai été renvoyé de mon emploi, il y ait des gens qui me reçoivent dans leurs maisons.»
5 Calling each one of his lord’s debtors to him, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe to my lord?’
Et ayant fait venir les uns après les autres tous les débiteurs de son maître, il dit au premier: «Combien dois-tu à mon maître?»
6 He said, ‘A hundred batos of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’
Celui-ci répondit: «Cent barils d'huile.» — «Prends ton billet, lui dit-il, assieds-toi, et dépêche-toi d'en faire un de cinquante.»
7 Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred cors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’
Il dit ensuite à un autre: «Et toi, combien dois-tu?» Celui-ci répondit: «Cent mesures de blé.» — «Prends ton billet, lui dit-il, et fais-en un de quatre-vingts.»
8 “His lord commended the dishonest manager because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are, in their own generation, wiser than the children of the light. (aiōn g165)
Et le maître loua le savoir-faire de cet économe infidèle; car les enfants de ce siècle sont bien plus habiles entre eux que ne le sont les enfants de lumière. (aiōn g165)
9 I tell you, make for yourselves friends by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when you fail, they may receive you into the eternal tents. (aiōnios g166)
Moi aussi je vous dis: Faites-vous des amis avec les richesses, source de malversations, afin que, lorsqu'elles vous manqueront, ils vous reçoivent dans les tabernacles éternels. (aiōnios g166)
10 He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
«Celui qui est fidèle en peu, l'est aussi en beaucoup; et celui qui malverse dans peu, malverse aussi dans beaucoup.
11 If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
Si donc vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans les richesses, source de malversations, qui vous confiera les véritables richesses?
12 If you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?
Et si vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans ce qui est à autrui, qui vous donnera ce qui est à vous?
13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to one and despise the other. You aren’t able to serve God and Mammon.”
Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres; car, ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre: vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mammon.»
14 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.
Les pharisiens aussi, qui étaient avares, écoutaient toutes ces choses et se moquaient de lui.
15 He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
Il leur dit: «Vous êtes de ces gens qui veulent se faire passer pour justes aux yeux des hommes; mais Dieu connaît vos coeurs; car ce qui est grand pour les hommes, est une abomination devant Dieu.
16 “The law and the prophets were until John. From that time the Good News of God’s Kingdom is preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
«La Loi et les Prophètes vont jusqu’à Jean; dès lors le royaume de Dieu est annoncé, et l'on y entre de vive force.
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tiny stroke of a pen in the law to fall.
Il est plus aisé que le ciel et la terre passent, qu'il ne l'est qu'une seule lettre de la Loi reste inexécutée.
18 “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery. He who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.
Quiconque répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre, commet un adultère, et celui qui épouse une femme répudiée, commet un adultère.
19 “Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.
Il y avait un homme riche, qui était vêtu de pourpre et de fin lin, et qui faisait brillante chère tous les jours.
20 A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was taken to his gate, full of sores,
Un pauvre, nommé Lazare, avait été posé à sa porte: il était couvert d'ulcères,
21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores.
et aurait bien voulu se nourrir de ce qui tombait de la table du riche. Non-seulement on ne lui donnait rien, mais encore les chiens venaient lécher ses ulcères.
22 The beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
Le pauvre vint à mourir, et il fut porté par les anges dans le sein d'Abraham. Le riche mourut aussi, et fut enseveli.
23 In Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom. (Hadēs g86)
Comme il était dans le séjour des morts, en proie aux tourments, il leva les yeux et vit de loin Abraham, et Lazare dans son sein; (Hadēs g86)
24 He cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.’
et il s'écria: «Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi, et envoie Lazare, afin qu'il trempe le bout de son doigt dans l'eau pour me rafraîchir la langue, car je souffre cruellement dans ces flammes.»
25 “But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But here he is now comforted and you are in anguish.
Mais Abraham lui dit: «Mon enfant, souviens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens pendant ta vie, et que Lazare, au contraire, a eu ses maux; maintenant ici, il est consolé, et toi, tu souffres.
26 Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that no one may cross over from there to us.’
D'ailleurs, entre vous et nous, s'ouvre un grand abîme, afin que ceux qui veulent passer d'ici vers vous ne le puissent point, et qu'on ne traverse pas non plus de là vers nous.»
27 “He said, ‘I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house—
Le riche dit: «Père, envoie-le donc, je t'en prie, dans la maison de mon père,
28 for I have five brothers—that he may testify to them, so they won’t also come into this place of torment.’
où j'ai cinq frères, afin qu'il les avertisse, de peur qu'ils ne viennent aussi dans ce lieu de tourments.»
29 “But Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’
Abraham lui dit: «Ils ont Moïse et les Prophètes; qu'ils les écoutent.»
30 “He said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’
— «Non, Père Abraham, dit-il; mais si quelqu'un se rend de chez les morts vers eux, ils se repentiront.»
31 “He said to him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.’”
Mais Abraham lui dit: «S'ils n'écoutent pas Moïse et les Prophètes, ils ne se laisseront pas persuader, quand même quelqu'un des morts ressusciterait.»
