John 18
1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
Como Jesús hubo dicho estas cosas, salióse con sus discípulos a la otra parte del arroyo de Cedrón, donde había un huerto, en el cual entró él, y sus discípulos.
2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.
Y también Júdas, el que le entregaba, conocía aquel lugar, porque muchas veces Jesús se juntaba allí con sus discípulos.
3 Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
Júdas pues tomando una compañía de soldados, y ministros de los sumos sacerdotes y de los Fariseos, vino allí con linternas y antorchas, y con armas.
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”
Empero Jesús, sabiendo todas las cosas que habían de venir sobre él, salió delante, y les dijo. ¿A quién buscáis?
5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
Respondiéronle: A Jesús Nazareno. Díceles Jesús: Yo soy. (Y estaba también con ellos Júdas el que le entregaba.)
6 When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward and fell to the ground.
Y como les dijo: Yo soy: volvieron atrás, y cayeron en tierra.
7 Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
Volvióles pues a preguntar: ¿A quién buscáis? Y ellos dijeron: A Jesús Nazareno.
8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”
Respondió Jesús: Ya os he dicho que yo soy: pues si a mí buscáis, dejád ir a estos:
9 that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.”
Para que se cumpliese la palabra que había dicho: De los que me diste, ninguno de ellos perdí.
10 Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
Entonces Simón Pedro, que tenía una espada, la sacó, e hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha; y el siervo se llamaba Malco.
11 Jesus therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”
Jesús entonces dijo a Pedro: Mete tu espada en la vaina: ¿la copa que mi Padre me ha dado, no la tengo de beber?
12 So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews seized Jesus and bound him,
Entonces la compañía de los soldados, y el tribuno, y los ministros de los Judíos prendieron a Jesús, y le ataron.
13 and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
Y le trajeron primeramente a Annás, porque era suegro de Caifás, el cual era sumo sacerdote de aquel año.
14 Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.
Y era Caifás el que había dado el consejo a los Judíos, que era necesario que un hombre muriese por el pueblo.
15 Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;
Y seguía a Jesús Simón Pedro, y otro discípulo; y aquel discípulo era conocido del sumo sacerdote, y entró con Jesús en el palacio del sumo sacerdote.
16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.
Mas Pedro estaba fuera a la puerta. Entonces salió aquel discípulo que era conocido del sumo sacerdote, y habló a la portera, y metió dentro a Pedro.
17 Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”
Entonces la criada portera dijo a Pedro: ¿No eres tú también uno de los discípulos de este hombre? Dice él: No soy.
18 Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.
Y estaban en pie los criados y los ministros que habían hecho fuego de carbón, porque hacía frío, y se calentaban; y estaba con ellos Pedro en pie calentándose.
19 The high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.
Y el sumo sacerdote preguntó a Jesús de sus discípulos, y de su doctrina.
20 Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
Jesús le respondió: Yo manifiestamente he hablado al mundo: yo siempre he enseñado en la sinagoga, y en el templo, donde siempre se juntan todos los Judíos; y nada he hablado en oculto.
21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, they know the things which I said.”
¿Por qué me preguntas a mí? Pregunta a los que han oído, qué les haya yo hablado: he aquí, estos saben lo que yo he dicho.
22 When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”
Y como él hubo dicho esto, uno de los ministros que estaba allí, dio una bofetada a Jesús, diciendo: ¿Así respondes al sumo sacerdote?
23 Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”
Respondióle Jesús: Si he hablado mal, da testimonio del mal; mas si bien, ¿por qué me hieres?
24 Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
Habíale enviado Annás atado a Caifás sumo sacerdote.
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
Estaba pues Pedro en pie calentándose: y le dijeron: ¿No eres tú también uno de sus discípulos? El lo negó, y dijo: No soy.
26 One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”
Uno de los criados del sumo sacerdote, pariente de aquel a quien Pedro había cortado la oreja, le dice: ¿No te ví yo en el huerto con él?
27 Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
Y negó Pedro otra vez; y luego el gallo cantó.
28 They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
Y llevan a Jesús de Caifás al pretorio; y era de mañana; y ellos no entraron en el pretorio por no ser contaminados, sino poder comer la pascua.
29 Pilate therefore went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
Entonces salió Pilato a ellos fuera, y dijo: ¿Qué acusación traeis contra este hombre?
30 They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”
Respondieron, y le dijeron: Si éste no fuera malhechor, no te le hubiéramos entregado.
31 Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is illegal for us to put anyone to death,”
Díceles entonces Pilato: Tomádle vosotros, y juzgádle según vuestra ley. Y los Judíos le dijeron: A nosotros no nos es lícito matar a nadie.
32 that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
Para que se cumpliese el dicho de Jesús que había dicho, dando a entender de qué muerte había de morir.
33 Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
Entonces Pilato volvióse a entrar en el pretorio, y llamó a Jesús, y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los Judíos?
34 Jesus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”
Respondióle Jesús: ¿Dices tú esto de ti mismo, o te lo han dicho otros de mí?
35 Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”
Pilato respondió: ¿Soy yo Judío? Tu misma nación, y los sumos sacerdotes, te han entregado a mí: ¿qué has hecho?
36 Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”
Respondió Jesús: Mi reino no es de este mundo: si de este mundo fuera mi reino, mis servidores pelearían para que yo no fuera entregado a los Judíos, ahora pues mi reino no es de aquí.
37 Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
Díjole entonces Pilato: ¿Luego rey eres tú? Respondió Jesús: Tú dices que yo soy rey. Yo para esto he nacido, y para esto he venido al mundo, es a saber, para dar testimonio a la verdad. Todo aquel que es de la verdad, oye mi voz.
38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
Dícele Pilato: ¿Qué cosa es verdad? Y como hubo dicho esto, volvió a los Judíos, y les dice: Yo no hallo en él crímen alguno.
39 But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
Empero vosotros tenéis costumbre, que yo os suelte uno en la pascua: ¿queréis pues que os suelte al Rey de los Judíos?
40 Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
Entonces todos dieron voces otra vez, diciendo: No a éste, sino a Barrabás. Y Barrabás era un ladrón.
