John 11
1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.
Es war aber jemand krank, Lazarus von Bethanien, aus dem Dorfe der Maria und ihrer Schwester Martha.
2 It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Es war aber Maria, die den Herrn salbte mit Salbe, und seine Füße mit ihrem Haare abtrocknete, deren Bruder Lazarus krank war.
3 The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”
Da sandten die Schwestern zu ihm, und ließen sagen: Herr, siehe, den du lieb hast, der ist krank.
4 But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”
Als Jesus das hörte, sprach er: Diese Krankheit ist nicht zum Tode, sondern zur Verherrlichung Gottes, daß der Sohn Gottes durch sie verherrlicht werde.
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Jesus aber liebte Martha, und ihre Schwester, und Lazarus.
6 When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.
Als er nun gehört hatte, daß er krank war, blieb er doch noch zwei Tage an dem Ort, wo er war.
7 Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”
Darauf nach diesem sagte er den Jüngern: Laßt uns wieder nach Judäa gehen!
8 The disciples asked him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”
Die Jünger sagten ihm: Rabbi, jetzt suchten die Juden dich zu steinigen, und du willst wieder dahin gehen?
9 Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
Jesus antwortete: Sind nicht des Tages zwölf Stunden? Wenn jemand am Tage wandelt, so stößt er sich nicht, weil er das Licht der Welt sieht.
10 But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”
Wenn er aber in der Nacht wandelt, so stößt er sich, weil kein Licht in ihm ist.
11 He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”
Dieses sprach er, und darnach sagt er ihnen: Lazarus unser Freund ist eingeschlafen, aber ich gehe hin, daß ich ihn aufwecke.
12 The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”
Da sprachen seine Jünger: Herr, wenn er eingeschlafen ist, so kommt er davon.
13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.
Jesus aber hatte von seinem Tode gesprochen, sie aber meinten, er rede von dem gewöhnlichen Schlaf.
14 So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.
Da sagte ihnen den Jesus frei heraus: Lazarus ist gestorben.
15 I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”
Und ich bin froh um euretwillen, daß ich nicht daselbst war, damit ihr glaubet. Aber lasset uns zu ihm gehen.
16 Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, that we may die with him.”
Da sprach Thomas, welcher Zwilling genannt wird, zu den Jüngern: Lasset uns auch gehen, damit wir mit ihm sterben.
17 So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.
Als nun Jesus hinkam, fand er ihn schon vier Tage im Grabe gelegen.
18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away.
Es war aber Bethanien nahe bei Jerusalem, bei fünfzehn Stadien davon.
19 Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.
Und viele Juden waren zu Martha und Maria gekommen, damit sie sie trösteten wegen ihres Bruders.
20 Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.
Martha nun, als sie hörte, daß Jesus kommt, ging ihm entgegen. Maria aber saß zu Hause.
21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.
Da sprach Martha zu Jesus: Herr, wärest du hier gewesen, so wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben.
22 Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”
Aber ich weiß auch jetzt, daß was du von Gott erbittest, das wird dir Gott geben.
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
Sagt ihr Jesus: Dein Bruder wird auferstehen.
24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
Sagt ihm Martha: Ich weiß, daß er auferstehen wird in der Auferstehung am letzten Tage.
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.
Sprach Jesus zu ihr: Ich bin die Auferstehung und das Leben; wer an mich glaubt, der wird leben, auch wenn er stürbe;
Und jeder, der lebt und an mich glaubt, der wird in Ewigkeit nicht sterben. Glaubst du das? (aiōn g165)
27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”
Sie sagt ihm: Ja Herr; (denn) ich bin überzeugt, daß du der Messias bist, der Sohn Gottes, der in die Welt kommen soll.
28 When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”
Und als sie das gesagt hatte, ging sie hin, und rief Maria, ihre Schwester, heimlich, und sprach: Der Lehrer ist da, und ruft dich.
29 When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him.
Jene, als sie das hörte, stund schnell auf, und kommt zu ihm.
30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.
Jesus aber war noch nicht in das Dorf gekommen, sondern war noch an dem Orte, wohin ihm Martha entgegengekommen war.
31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”
Da nun die Juden, welche bei ihr im Hause waren, und sie trösteten, Maria sahen, daß sie schnell aufstund und hinausging, folgten sie ihr nach, und sagten: Sie geht an das Grabmal, daß sie daselbst weine.
32 Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”
Als aber Maria hinkam, wo Jesus war, und ihn sah, da fiel sie zu seinen Füßen, und sagte ihm: Herr wärst du hier gewesen, so wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben.
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled,
Jesus nun, als er sah sie weinen, und die Juden, die mit ihr gekommen waren, weinen, da ergrimmte er im Geiste, und erregte sich,
34 and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”
Und sprach: Wo habt ihr ihn hingelegt? Sie sagen ihm: Herr, komm, und siehe!
35 Jesus wept.
Jesus weinte.
36 The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”
Da sagten die Juden: Siehe, wie lieb er ihn hatte.
37 Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”
Etliche aber von ihnen sprachen: Konnte nicht dieser, der die Augen des Blinden aufgetan hat, auch machen, daß dieser nicht sterbe?
38 Jesus therefore, again groaning in himself, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
Da ergrimmte Jesus abermals in sich, und kam so zum Grab; es war aber eine Höhle, und ein Stein lag davor.
39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
Sagt Jesus: Nehmet den Stein weg! Sagt ihm Martha, die Schwester des Verstorbenen: Herr, er stinkt schon, denn es sind vier Tage.
40 Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”
Sagt ihr Jesus: Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, daß wenn du glaubst, du die Herrlichkeit Gottes sehen wirst?
41 So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.
Da nahmen sie den Stein weg; Jesus aber hob seine Augen empor, und sprach: Vater, ich danke dir, daß du mich erhört hast.
42 I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”
Ich wußte, daß du mich allezeit erhörst, aber um des herumstehenden Volkes willen habe ich es gesagt, damit sie glauben, daß du mich gesandt hast.
43 When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
Und als er dies gesagt hatte, rief er mit lauter Stimme: Lazarus, komm heraus!
44 He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”
Und der Verstorbene kam heraus, an Händen und Füßen mit Grabtüchern gebunden, und sein Angesicht war mit einem Schweißtuch umbunden. Jesus sagte ihnen: Löset ihn auf, und lasset ihn gehen.
45 Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did believed in him.
Viele nun von den Juden, die zu Maria gekommen waren, und sahen, was er tat, glaubten an ihn.
46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.
Etliche aber von ihnen gingen hin zu den Pharisäern, und sagten ihnen, was Jesus getan hatte.
47 The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.
Da versammelten die hohen Priester und Pharisäer den hohen Rat, und sagten: Was sollen wir tun? denn dieser Mensch tut viele Zeichen.
48 If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”
Wenn wir ihn so lassen, dann werden alle an ihn glauben, und die Römer werden kommen, und sowohl unsre Stätte, als unser Volk vertilgen.
49 But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,
Einer aber von ihnen, Kaiaphas, der jenes Jahr Hoherpriester war, sagte ihnen: Ihr wisset nichts,
50 nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”
Und bedenket auch nicht, daß es uns besser ist, ein Mensch sterbe für das Volk, als daß die ganze Nation zugrunde gehe,
51 Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
Das sagte er aber nicht von sich selbst, sondern weil er jenes Jahr Hoherpriester war, weissagte er, daß Jesus für die Nation sterben würde.
52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.
Und nicht für die Nation (der Juden) allein, sondern damit er auch die zerstreuten Kinder Gottes in eins zusammenbrächte.
53 So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.
Von jenem Tage an ratschlagten sie denn, daß sie ihn töteten.
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with his disciples.
Da wandelte Jesus nicht mehr offen unter den Juden umher, sondern ging von dannen in die Gegend nahe bei der Wüste, in eine Stadt genannt Ephraim, und hielt sich daselbst auf mit seinen Jüngern.
55 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
Es war aber nahe das Passah der Juden, und es gingen viele aus der Gegend hinauf nach Jerusalem, vor dem Feste, damit sie sich reinigten.
56 Then they sought for Jesus and spoke with one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”
Da suchten sie Jesus, und sprachen untereinander, während sie im Tempel stunden: Was dünkt euch, daß er nicht auf das Fest kommt?
57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
Es hatten aber die hohen Priester und Pharisäer ein Gebot gegeben, daß wenn jemand wüßte, wo er ist, er es anzeigen solle, damit sie ihn griffen. -
