James 3
1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.
૧મારા ભાઈઓ, તમારામાંના ઘણાં ઉપદેશક ન થાઓ, કેમ કે તમે જાણો છો કે ઉપદેશકોને તો વિશેષ સજા થશે.
2 For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.
૨કેમ કે આપણે ઘણી રીતે ઠોકરો ખાઈએ છીએ; જો કોઈ બોલવામાં ઠોકર નથી ખાતો, તો તે સંપૂર્ણ માણસ છે અને પોતાના આખા શરીરને પણ અંકુશમાં રાખવાને શક્તિમાન છે.
3 Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.
૩જુઓ, ઘોડા કાબુમાં રહે માટે આપણે તેઓના મુખમાં લગામ નાખીને તેના આખા શરીરને નિયંત્રણમાં રાખીએ છીએ.
4 Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.
૪વહાણો પણ કેટલા બધાં મોટાં હોય છે, તેઓ ભયંકર પવનથી ધકેલાય છે, તોપણ બહુ નાના સુકાનથી સુકાનીની મરજી હોય તે તરફ તેઓને ચલાવવામાં આવે છે.
5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!
૫તેમ જીભ પણ એક નાનું અંગ છે છતાં તે મોટી મોટી બડાઈ કરે છે. જુઓ, અગ્નિનો તણખો કેટલા વિશાળ જંગલને સળગાવે છે!
6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
૬જીભ તો અગ્નિ છે; જગતના અન્યાયથી ભરેલી છે; આપણા અંગોમાં જીભ એવી છે કે, તે આખા શરીરને અશુદ્ધ કરે છે, તે સંપૂર્ણ જીવનને સળગાવે છે અને પોતે નર્કથી સળગાવવામાં આવેલી છે. (Geenna g1067)
7 For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;
૭કેમ કે દરેક જાતનાં જાનવરો, પક્ષીઓ, પેટે ચાલનારાંઓ તથા સમુદ્રમાં રહેનારાં પ્રાણીઓ પાળી શકાય છે અને માણસોએ તેમને વશ કર્યાં છે;
8 but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
૮પણ જીભને કોઈ માણસ કાબુમાં રાખી શકતો નથી. તે બધે ફેલાતી મરકી છે અને પ્રાણઘાતક ઝેરથી ભરપૂર છે.
9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God.
૯તેનાથી આપણે પ્રભુ પિતાની સ્તુતિ કરીએ છીએ અને ઈશ્વરના સ્વરૂપ પ્રમાણે ઉત્પન્ન થયેલાં મનુષ્યોને શાપ પણ આપીએ છીએ.
10 Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
૧૦એક જ મોંમાંથી સ્તુતિ તથા શાપ નીકળે છે. મારા ભાઈઓ, આમ તો ન જ થવું જોઈએ.
11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?
૧૧શું ઝરો એક જ મુખમાંથી મીઠું તથા કડવું પાણી આપે છે?
12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.
૧૨મારા ભાઈઓ, શું અંજીરી જૈતૂન વૃક્ષનું ફળ અથવા દ્રાક્ષાવેલો અંજીર આપી શકે? તેમ જ ખારું ઝરણું મીઠું પાણી આપી શકતું નથી.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
૧૩તમારામાં જ્ઞાની તથા સમજુ કોણ છે? તો તે જ્ઞાનથી આવેલી નમ્રતા વડે સદાચરણથી પોતાની કરણીઓ કરી બતાવે,
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.
૧૪પણ જો તમારા મનમાં કડવાશ, અદેખાઈ તથા સ્વાર્થ છે, તો તમે સત્યની વિરુદ્ધ થઈને ગર્વ ન કરો અને જૂઠું ન બોલો.
15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
૧૫એ જ્ઞાન ઉપરથી ઊતરે એવું નથી, પણ દુન્યવી, બિન-આત્મિક તથા શેતાની છે.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
૧૬કેમ કે જ્યાં અદેખાઈ તથા સ્વાર્થ છે, ત્યાં તકરાર તથા દરેક પ્રકારના ખરાબ કામ છે.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
૧૭પણ જે જ્ઞાન ઉપરથી છે તે પ્રથમ તો શુદ્ધ, પછી સલાહ કરાવનારું, નમ્ર, સેહેજ સમજે તેવું, દયાથી તથા સારાં ફળથી ભરપૂર, પક્ષપાત વગરનું તથા ઢોંગ વગરનું છે.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
૧૮વળી જે સલાહ કરાવનારાંઓ શાંતિમાં વાવે છે, તેઓ ન્યાયીપણું લણે છે.
