Galatians 5
1 Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Für die Freiheit hat uns Christus befreit. So stehet nun fest, und lasset euch nicht wieder ins Joch der Knechtschaft bannen.
2 Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing.
Siehe, ich Paulus sage euch: wenn ihr euch beschneiden lasset, so wird euch Christus nichts helfen.
3 Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
Wiederum bezeuge ich jedem Menschen, der sich beschneiden läßt: daß er schuldig ist, das ganze Gesetz zu thun.
4 You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace.
Wenn ihr euch durch das Gesetz rechtfertigen lassen wollet, seid ihr ausgethan von Christus, seid ihr aus der Gnade gefallen.
5 For we through the Spirit, by faith wait for the hope of righteousness.
Denn wir warten im Geiste durch den Glauben auf die Hoffnung der Gerechtigkeit.
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision amounts to anything, but faith working through love.
In Christus Jesus vermag weder die Beschneidung, noch das Gegenteil etwas, sondern der Glaube der durch Liebe sich auswirkt.
7 You were running well! Who interfered with you that you should not obey the truth?
Ihr waret im schönen Lauf: wer hat euch gehemmt, daß ihr der Wahrheit nicht folget?
8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you.
Die Lockstimme kommt nicht von dem, der euch beruft.
9 A little yeast grows through the whole lump.
Ein wenig Sauerteig säuert den ganzen Teig.
10 I have confidence toward you in the Lord that you will think no other way. But he who troubles you will bear his judgment, whoever he is.
Ich vertraue zu euch im Herrn, daß ihr keinen andern Sinn annehmen werdet; euer Verstörer aber wird die Strafe tragen, wer es auch sei.
11 But I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been removed.
Ich aber, Brüder, wenn ich noch die Beschneidung verkündigte, warum würde ich dann noch verfolgt? dann ist es ja vorbei mit dem Aergernisse des Kreuzes.
12 I wish that those who disturb you would cut themselves off.
Verstümmeln sollen sie sich lieber, die euch aufwiegeln.
13 For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don’t use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants to one another.
Ihr seid zur Freiheit berufen, Brüder, doch ja nicht Freiheit zum offenen Thor des Fleisches; vielmehr dienet einander in der Liebe.
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Denn das ganze Gesetz geht in Ein Wort zusammen, nämlich: du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst.
15 But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you don’t consume one another.
Wenn ihr aber einander beißet und auffresset - gebet acht, daß ihr nicht von einander verzehrt werdet.
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Ich sage aber: wandelt im Geiste, so werdet ihr die Lust des Fleisches nicht vollbringen.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.
Denn das Fleisch gelüstet wider den Geist, den Geist aber wider das Fleisch. Sie sind wider einander, auf daß ihr nicht das thut, was ihr wollt.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Wenn ihr aber vom Geist getrieben werdet, so seid ihr nicht unter dem Gesetz.
19 Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness,
Offenbar sind die Werke des Fleisches, als da sind: Unzucht, Unreinheit, Ueppigkeit,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,
Götzendienst, Zauberei, Feindschaft, Hader, Eifersucht, Zorn, Ränke, Spaltung, Absonderung,
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.
Neid, Trunkenheit, Fressen und dergleichen, davon ich euch voraussage, wie ich es schon zuvor gesagt habe, daß die solches thun, werden Gottes Reich nicht erben.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,
Die Frucht des Geistes aber ist: Liebe, Freude, Friede, Langmut, Milde, Edelmut, Treue,
23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Sanftmut, Enthaltsamkeit; wider dergleichen ist kein Gesetz.
24 Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
Die aber dem Christus Jesus gehören, haben das Fleisch samt Leidenschaften und Lüsten gekreuzigt.
25 If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit.
Wenn wir durch den Geist leben, lasset uns auch im Geist wandeln.
26 Let’s not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.
Lasset uns nicht eitel werden, nicht herausfordernd, nicht neidisch unter einander.
