Galatians 3

1 Foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you not to obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly portrayed among you as crucified?

Ω ανόητοι Γαλάται, τις σας εβάσκανεν, ώστε να μη πείθησθε εις την αλήθειαν σεις, έμπροσθεν εις τους οφθαλμούς των οποίων ο Ιησούς Χριστός, διεγράφη εσταυρωμένος μεταξύ σας;

2 I just want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?

Τούτο μόνον θέλω να μάθω από σάς· Εξ έργων νόμου ελάβετε το Πνεύμα, ή εξ ακοής της πίστεως;

3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now completed in the flesh?

τόσον ανόητοι είσθε; αφού ηρχίσατε με το Πνεύμα, τώρα τελειόνετε με την σάρκα;

4 Did you suffer so many things in vain, if it is indeed in vain?

εις μάτην επάθετε τόσα; αν μόνον εις μάτην.

5 He therefore who supplies the Spirit to you and does miracles among you, does he do it by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?

Εκείνος λοιπόν όστις χορηγεί εις εσάς το Πνεύμα και ενεργεί θαύματα μεταξύ σας, εξ έργων νόμου κάμνει ταύτα ή εξ ακοής πίστεως;

6 Even so, Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness.”

καθώς ο Αβραάμ επίστευσεν εις τον Θεόν, και ελογίσθη εις αυτόν εις δικαιοσύνην.

7 Know therefore that those who are of faith are children of Abraham.

Εξεύρετε λοιπόν ότι οι όντες εκ πίστεως, ούτοι είναι υιοί του Αβραάμ.

8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the Good News beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you all the nations will be blessed.”

Προϊδούσα δε η γραφή ότι εκ πίστεως δικαιόνει τα έθνη ο Θεός, προήγγειλεν εις τον Αβραάμ ότι θέλουσιν ευλογηθή εν σοι πάντα τα έθνη.

9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.

Ώστε οι όντες εκ πίστεως ευλογούνται μετά του πιστού Αβραάμ.

10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who doesn’t continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them.”

Διότι όσοι είναι εξ έργων νόμου, υπό κατάραν είναι· επειδή είναι γεγραμμένον· Επικατάρατος πας όστις δεν εμμένει εν πάσι τοις γεγραμμένοις εν τω βιβλίω του νόμου, ώστε να πράξη αυτά.

11 Now that no man is justified by the law before God is evident, for, “The righteous will live by faith.”

Ότι δε ουδείς δικαιούται διά του νόμου ενώπιον του Θεού, είναι φανερόν, διότι ο δίκαιος θέλει ζήσει εκ πίστεως,

12 The law is not of faith, but, “The man who does them will live by them.”

ο δε νόμος δεν είναι εκ πίστεως· αλλ' ο άνθρωπος ο πράττων αυτά θέλει ζήσει δι' αυτών.

13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,”

Ο Χριστός εξηγόρασεν ημάς εκ της κατάρας του νόμου, γενόμενος κατάρα υπέρ ημών· διότι είναι γεγραμμένον· Επικατάρατος πας ο κρεμάμενος επί ξύλου.

14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Διά να έλθη εις τα έθνη η ευλογία του Αβραάμ διά Ιησού Χριστού, ώστε να λάβωμεν την επαγγελίαν του Πνεύματος διά της πίστεως.

15 Brothers, speaking of human terms, though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void or adds to it.

Αδελφοί, κατά άνθρωπον ομιλώ· όμως και ανθρώπου διαθήκην κεκυρωμένην ουδείς αθετεί ή προσθέτει εις αυτήν.

16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his offspring. He doesn’t say, “To descendants”, as of many, but as of one, “To your offspring”, which is Christ.

Προς δε τον Αβραάμ ελαλήθησαν αι επαγγελίαι και προς το σπέρμα αυτού· δεν λέγει, Και προς τα σπέρματα, ως περί πολλών, αλλ' ως περί ενός, Και προς το σπέρμα σου, όστις είναι ο Χριστός.

17 Now I say this: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God in Christ, the law, which came four hundred thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect.

Τούτο δε λέγω· ότι διαθήκην προκεκυρωμένην εις τον Χριστόν υπό του Θεού ο μετά έτη τετρακόσια τριάκοντα γενόμενος νόμος δεν ακυρόνει, ώστε να καταργήση την επαγγελίαν.

18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise.

Διότι εάν η κληρονομία ήναι εκ νόμου, δεν είναι πλέον εξ επαγγελίας· αλλ' εις τον Αβραάμ δι' επαγγελίας εχάρισε ταύτην ο Θεός.

19 Then why is there the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise has been made. It was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator.

Διά τι λοιπόν εδόθη ο νόμος; Εξ αιτίας των παραβάσεων προσετέθη, εωσού έλθη το σπέρμα, προς το οποίον έγεινεν η επαγγελία, διαταχθείς δι' αγγέλων διά χειρός μεσίτου·

20 Now a mediator is not between one, but God is one.

ο δε μεσίτης δεν είναι ενός, ο Θεός όμως είναι εις.

21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could make alive, most certainly righteousness would have been of the law.

Ο νόμος λοιπόν εναντίος των επαγγελιών του Θεού είναι; Μη γένοιτο. Διότι εάν ήθελε δοθή νόμος δυνάμενος να ζωοποιήση, η δικαιοσύνη ήθελεν είσθαι τωόντι εκ του νόμου·

22 But the Scripture imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

η γραφή όμως συνέκλεισε τα πάντα υπό την αμαρτίαν, διά να δοθή η επαγγελία εκ πίστεως Ιησού Χριστού εις τους πιστεύοντας.

23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, confined for the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

Πριν δε έλθη η πίστις, εφρουρούμεθα υπό τον νόμον συγκεκλεισμένοι εις την πίστιν, ήτις έμελλε να αποκαλυφθή.

24 So that the law has become our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Ώστε ο νόμος έγεινε παιδαγωγός ημών εις τον Χριστόν, διά να δικαιωθώμεν εκ πίστεως.

25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

αφού όμως ήλθεν η πίστις, δεν είμεθα πλέον υπό παιδαγωγόν.

26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.

Διότι πάντες είσθε υιοί Θεού διά της πίστεως της εν Χριστώ Ιησού·

27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

επειδή όσοι εβαπτίσθητε εις Χριστόν, Χριστόν ενεδύθητε.

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Δεν είναι πλέον Ιουδαίος ουδέ Έλλην, δεν είναι δούλος ουδέ ελεύθερος, δεν είναι άρσεν και θήλυ· διότι πάντες σεις είσθε εις εν Χριστώ Ιησού·

29 If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring and heirs according to promise.

εάν δε ήσθε του Χριστού, άρα είσθε σπέρμα του Αβραάμ και κατά την επαγγελίαν κληρονόμοι.
