Ezra 4

1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple to Yahweh, the God of Israel,

Y oyendo los enemigos de Judá y de Ben-jamín que los hijos de la cautividad edificaban el templo de Jehová Dios de Israel;

2 they came near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers’ households, and said to them, “Let us build with you, for we seek your God as you do; and we have been sacrificing to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.”

Llegáronse a Zorobabel, y a las cabezas de los padres, y dijéronles: Edificaremos con vosotros; porque como vosotros buscaremos a vuestro Dios, y a él sacrificamos desde los días de Asoraddán rey de Asiria que nos hizo subir aquí.

3 But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers’ households of Israel said to them, “You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we ourselves together will build to Yahweh, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”

Y díjoles Zorobabel, y Jesuá, y los demás cabezas de los padres de Israel: No nos conviene edificar con vosotros casa a nuestro Dios: mas nosotros solos edificaremos a Jehová Dios de Israel, como nos mandó el rey Ciro rey de Persia.

4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building.

Mas el pueblo de la tierra debilitaba las manos del pueblo de Judá, y los perturbaba de edificar.

5 They hired counselors against them to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Y alquilaron contra ellos consejeros para disipar su consejo todo el tiempo de Ciro rey de Persia, y hasta el reino de Darío rey de Persia.

6 In the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

Y en el reino de Asuero, en el principio de su reino, escribieron acusación contra los moradores de Judá y de Jerusalem.

7 In the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions wrote to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in Syrian and delivered in the Syrian language.

Y en los días de Artaxerxes escribió en paz Mitridates, Tabeel, y los demás sus compañeros, a Artaxerxes rey de Persia: y la escritura de la carta era escrita en Siriaco, y declarada en Siriaco.

8 Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king as follows.

Rehum canciller, y Samsai escriba escribieron una carta contra Jerusalem al rey Artaxerxes como se sigue:

9 Then Rehum the chancellor, Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,

Entonces Rehum canciller, y Samsai escriba, y los demás sus compañeros, los Dineos, y los Afarsataqueos, Tefarleos, Afarseos, Ercueos, Babilonios, Susanceos, Dieveos, y Elamitas,

10 and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over and settled in the city of Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River, and so forth, wrote.

Y los demás pueblos que traspasó Asnafar el grande y glorioso, y los hizo habitar en las ciudades de Samaria, y los demás de la otra parte del río, y Cheenet.

11 This is the copy of the letter that they sent: To King Artaxerxes, from your servants, the people beyond the River.

Este es el traslado de la carta que enviaron al rey Artaxerxes: Tus siervos de la otra parte del río, y Cheenet.

12 Be it known to the king that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem. They are building the rebellious and bad city, and have finished the walls and repaired the foundations.

Sea notorio al rey que los Judíos que subieron de ti a nosotros, vinieron a Jerusalem, y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y han acimentado los muros, y puesto los fundamentos.

13 Be it known now to the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.

Ahora notorio sea al rey, que si aquella ciudad fuere edificada, y los muros fueren fundados, el tributo, pecho, y rentas no darán: y el tributo de los reyes será menoscabado.

14 Now because we eat the salt of the palace and it is not appropriate for us to see the king’s dishonor, therefore we have sent and informed the king,

Ahora por la sal de palacio de que estamos salados, no nos es justo ver el menosprecio del rey: por tanto enviamos, e hicimos notorio al rey,

15 that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers. You will see in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and provinces, and that they have started rebellions within it in the past. That is why this city was destroyed.

Para que busque en el libro de las historias de nuestros padres, y hallarás en el libro de las historias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial a los reyes y a las provincias: y que hacen rebelión en medio de ella de tiempo antiguo, y que por esto esta ciudad fue destruida.

16 We inform the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, then you will have no possession beyond the River.

Hacemos notorio al rey, que si esta ciudad fuere edificada, y los muros fundados, la parte de allá del río no será tuya.

17 Then the king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions who live in Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River: Peace.

El rey envió respuesta: A Rehum canciller, y a Samsai escriba, y a los demás sus compañeros que habitan en Samaria, y a los demás de la parte de allá del río: Paz, y a Cheenet.

18 The letter which you sent to us has been plainly read before me.

La carta que nos enviasteis claramente fue leída delante de mí:

19 I decreed, and search has been made, and it was found that this city has made insurrection against kings in the past, and that rebellion and revolts have been made in it.

Y por mí fue dado mandamiento, y buscaron, y hallaron que aquella ciudad de tiempo antiguo se levanta contra los reyes, y se rebela, y rebelión se hace en ella:

20 There have also been mighty kings over Jerusalem who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll was paid to them.

Y que reyes fuertes hubo en Jerusalem, y señores en todo lo que está de la otra parte del río; y que tributo, y pecho, y rentas se les daba.

21 Make a decree now to cause these men to cease, and that this city not be built until a decree is made by me.

Ahora dad mandamiento que cesen aquellos varones: y aquella ciudad no sea edificada, hasta que por mí sea dado mandamiento.

22 Be careful that you not be slack doing so. Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

Y mirád bien que no hagáis error en esto: ¿por qué crecerá el daño para perjuicio de los reyes?

23 Then when the copy of King Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them to cease by force of arms.

Entonces, cuando el traslado de la carta del rey Artaxerxes fue leído delante de Rehum, y de Samsai escriba, y sus compañeros, fueron prestamente a Jerusalem a los Judíos, e hiciéronles cesar con brazo y fuerza.

24 Then work stopped on God’s house which is at Jerusalem. It stopped until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Entonces cesó la obra de la casa de Dios, la cual estaba en Jerusalem: y cesó hasta el año segundo del reino de Darío rey de Persia.
