Ephesians 4
1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,
Je vous exhorte donc, moi qui suis prisonnier dans le Seigneur, à vivre d'une manière digne de l'appel qui vous a été adressé,
2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
avec une entière humilité, avec douceur, avec patience; supportez-vous avec amour les uns les autres,
3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
efforcez-vous de conserver l'unité de l'esprit par le lien de la paix.
4 There is one body and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling,
Il n'y a qu'un corps, qu'un Esprit, comme il n'y a qu'une espérance, celle de l'appel qui vous a été adressé.
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Il n'y a qu'un Seigneur, qu'une foi, qu'un baptême,
6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in us all.
qu'un Dieu, Père de tous, au-dessus de tous, qui agit par tous, qui est en tous.
7 But to each one of us, the grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Mais à chacun de nous a été donnée la grâce selon la mesure de la libéralité du Christ.
8 Therefore he says, “When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to people.”
Voilà pourquoi il dit: «Il est monté dans les hauteurs, Il a emmené des captifs, Il a fait des présents aux hommes.»
9 Now this, “He ascended”, what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
Que suppose ce mot: «il est monté»? Que d'abord il était descendu dans des régions inférieures, sur la terre.
10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
Celui qui est descendu est le même que celui qui est monté au-dessus de tous les cieux, afin de tout remplir.
11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers;
C'est lui aussi qui a donné aux uns d'être apôtres; à d'autres, d'être prophètes; à d'autres, d'être évangélistes;
12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ,
à d'autres, d'être pasteurs et docteurs, et leur ministère doit servir aux progrès des fidèles, à l'édification du corps du Christ,
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
jusqu'à ce que nous soyons tous arrivés à l'unité de la foi et de la connaissance du Fils de Dieu, à une virile maturité, à la hauteur de la parfaite stature du Christ.
14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;
Il veut que nous ne soyons plus des enfants, entraînés par tous les courants, emportés par tout vent de doctrine, joués par les hommes, trompés par leurs ruses qui égarent.
15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ,
Il veut que fidèles, avec amour, à la vérité, nous grandissions à tous égards, pour atteindre celui qui est la tête, le Christ.
16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.
C'est de lui que le corps entier bien proportionné, bien lié, solidement pourvu de nombreuses jointures, tire son développement, chaque membre selon ses forces, pour s'édifier lui-même et croître dans l'amour.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,
Voici donc ce que je vous demande, ce dont je vous conjure au nom du Seigneur: ne vivez plus comme vivent les païens dont la raison est égarée,
18 being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts.
dont l'intelligence est obscurcie, qui sont étrangers à la vie de Dieu, par suite de l'ignorance où ils sont, et de l'endurcissement de leur coeur.
19 They, having become callous, gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Ils ont perdu tout sens moral, ils se sont livrés à la débauche, à la pratique de toute sorte d'impureté et à l'avarice.
20 But you didn’t learn Christ that way,
Mais vous, ce n'est pas ainsi qu'on vous a enseigné, le Christ,
21 if indeed you heard him and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:
puisque vous en avez entendu parler et qu'on vous a appris à son école
22 that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit,
(et c'est la vérité en Jésus) à vous défaire, comme l'exige votre conduite passée, du vieil homme corrompu par de trompeuses passions,
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
à renouveler votre esprit, votre intelligence,
24 and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
à revêtir le nouvel homme créé à l'image de Dieu dans une justice et une sainteté inséparables de la vérité.
25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.
Ainsi donc renoncez au mensonge; «Que chacun dise la vérité à son prochain», car nous sommes membres les uns des autres.
26 “Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath,
«Dans la colère ne péchez pas»; que le soleil ne se couche pas sur votre colère;
27 and don’t give place to the devil.
n'offrez aucune prise au Diable.
28 Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.
Que le voleur ne commette plus de vol, qu'il occupe plutôt ses mains à quelque bon travail pour qu'il puisse donner à celui qui est dans le besoin.
29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Que votre bouche ne prononce jamais de mauvaises paroles, mais, à l'occasion, dites quelques bonnes paroles édifiantes qui fassent du bien à ceux qui les entendent.
30 Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
N'attristez pas le saint Esprit de Dieu, dont vous avez reçu le sceau pour le jour de la délivrance.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice.
Que tout ce qui est amertume, violence, colère, crierie, médisance, soit banni d'entre vous,
32 And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
et aussi tout ce qui est méchanceté. Soyez bons les uns pour les autres, pleins de tendresse, pardonnez-vous mutuellement, comme Dieu vous a pardonné en Christ.
