< Acts 8 >

1 Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.
Sawulo yali omu ku abo abaawagira okuttibwa kwa Suteefano. Era ku lunaku olwo okuyigganya Ekkanisa ne kutandika n’amaanyi mangi nnyo mu Yerusaalemi. Abakkiriza bonna, okuggyako abatume, ne basaasaanira mu Buyudaaya ne mu Samaliya.
2 Devout men buried Stephen and lamented greatly over him.
Abantu ba Katonda ne baggyawo Suteefano ne bamutwala ne bamuziika mu kwaziirana okungi.
3 But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into every house and dragged both men and women off to prison.
Naye Sawulo n’akolerera okuzikiriza Ekkanisa; n’agenda buli wantu ng’akwata abasajja n’abakazi n’abatwala mu kkomera.
4 Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word.
Naye abakkiriza abadduka mu Yerusaalemi ne bagenda mu buli kifo nga babuulira Enjiri ya Yesu.
5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.
Awo Firipo, n’alaga mu kimu ku bibuga bya Samaliya n’abuulira abantu Enjiri ya Kristo.
6 The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip when they heard and saw the signs which he did.
Ebibiina ne bimuwuliriza nnyo kubanga abantu bonna baalaba ebyamagero bye yakola.
7 For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
Baddayimooni bangi ne bava ku bantu nga bwe baleekaana; abaali bakoozimbye n’abalema bonna ne bawonyezebwa;
8 There was great joy in that city.
ekibuga ne kijjula essanyu.
9 But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who used to practice sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,
Waaliwo omusajja erinnya lye Simooni eyali omufumu omwatiikirivu mu kibuga omwo era nga yeewuunyisa nnyo abantu bonna mu Samaliya. Yeeyogerangako nti muntu mukulu era wa kitiibwa.
10 to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is that great power of God.”
Era abantu bangi ab’ekitiibwa n’abatali ba kitiibwa baamwogerangako nti, “Omusajja oyo ge maanyi ga Katonda agayitibwa, ‘Amangi.’”
11 They listened to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
Ne bamussangako nnyo omwoyo olw’ebyobufuusa bye yakolanga.
12 But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning God’s Kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Naye bwe bakkiriza obubaka bwa Firipo ng’abuulira ku bwakabaka bwa Katonda n’erinnya lya Yesu Kristo abasajja n’abakazi ne babatizibwa.
13 Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles occurring, he was amazed.
Awo ne Simooni yennyini n’akkiriza era n’abatizibwa, n’agobereranga Firipo buli gye yalaganga; era ebyamagero Firipo bye yakolanga, Simooni n’abyewuunya nnyo.
14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
Awo abatume abaali mu Yerusaalemi bwe baawulira ng’abantu mu Samaliya bakkirizza ekigambo kya Katonda, ne babatumira Peetero ne Yokaana.
15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;
Bwe baatuuka ne basabira abakkiriza bano abaggya bafune Mwoyo Mutukuvu,
16 for as yet he had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of Christ Jesus.
kubanga yali tannaba kubakkako, kubanga baali babatizibbwa mu linnya lya Mukama waffe Yesu kyokka.
17 Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Awo Peetero ne Yokaana ne bassa emikono gyabwe ku bakkiriza abo, ne bafuna Mwoyo Mutukuvu.
18 Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,
Simooni, Omufumu, bwe yalaba ng’abantu bafunye Mwoyo Mutukuvu olw’abatume okubassaako emikono kyokka, kyeyava atoola ensimbi aziwe abatume bamuguze obuyinza obwo.
19 saying, “Give me also this power, that whomever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”
N’abagamba nti, “Mumpe obuyinza obwo, buli gwe nnassangako emikono gyange afune Mwoyo Mutukuvu!”
20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
Naye Peetero n’amugamba nti, “Ensimbi zo zizikirire naawe olw’okulowooza nti ekirabo kya Katonda kiyinza okugulibwa obugulibwa n’ensimbi.
21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart isn’t right before God.
Mu nsonga eno tolinaamu mugabo kubanga omutima gwo si mulongoofu mu maaso ga Katonda.
22 Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
Noolwekyo weenenye ekikolwa ekyo ekibi weegayirire Mukama, oboolyawo Katonda ayinza okukusonyiwa ebirowoozo byo ebyo ebibi.
23 For I see that you are in the poison of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity.”
Kubanga ndaba nga mu mutima gwo mujjudde obuggya, era oli muddu wa kibi.”
24 Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken happen to me.”
Simooni n’abeegayirira nti, “Munsabire eri Mukama ebintu ebyo bye mwogedde bireme okuntuukako.”
25 They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the Good News to many villages of the Samaritans.
Awo Peetero ne Yokaana bwe baamala okubuulira ekigambo kya Katonda n’obuvumu, ne basitula okuddayo mu Yerusaalemi, nga bagenda babuulira Enjiri mu bibuga bingi bye baayitangamu mu Samaliya.
26 Then an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert.”
Awo malayika wa Mukama n’agamba Firipo nti, “Kwata ekkubo eriraga mu bukiikaddyo, eriva e Yerusaalemi nga liyita mu ddungu okugenda e Ggaaza.”
27 He arose and went; and behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.
Firipo n’akwata ekkubo eryo. Mu kiseera ekyo waaliwo omusajja Omwesiyopya mu kkubo eryo ng’ava mu kusinza e Yerusaalemi. Yali mulaawe nga mukungu mu lubiri lwa Kandake, kabaka omukazi owa Esiyopya, era ye yali omuwanika we omukulu.
28 He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
Yali atudde mu ggaali lye ng’addayo ewaabwe nga bw’asoma ekitabo kya nnabbi Isaaya.
29 The Spirit said to Philip, “Go near, and join yourself to this chariot.”
Awo Mwoyo Mutukuvu n’agamba Firipo nti, “Semberera eggaali eryo oligendereko.”
30 Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
Firipo n’adduka n’atuuka ku ggaali, n’awulira Omwesiyopya ng’asoma mu kitabo kya nnabbi Isaaya. N’amubuuza nti, “By’osoma obitegeera?”
31 He said, “How can I, unless someone explains it to me?” He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.
Omwesiyopya n’addamu nti, “Nnaabitegeera ntya nga sirina abinnyinnyonnyola?” N’asaba Firipo ayingire mu ggaali lye batuule bombi.
32 Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, so he doesn’t open his mouth.
Ekyawandiikibwa kye yali asoma nga kigamba bwe kiti nti: “Yatwalibwa ng’endiga egenda okuttibwa. Ng’omwana gw’endiga bwe gusiriikirira nga bagusalako ebyoya, naye bw’atyo teyayasamya kamwa ke.
33 In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth.”
Yajoogebwa n’atalamulwa mu bwenkanya. Ani alyogera ku bazzukulu be? Kubanga ekiseera kye eky’obulamu bwe ku nsi kyakoma!”
34 The eunuch answered Philip, “Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?”
Omulaawe kwe kubuuza Firipo nti, “Nnyinnyonnyola, munnange, nnabbi gw’ayogerako; yeeyogerako yekka oba ayogera ku mulala?”
35 Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him about Jesus.
Awo Firipo n’atandika n’Ekyawandiikibwa ekyo n’amubuulira Enjiri ya Yesu Kristo.
36 As they went on the way, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?”
Bwe baali bagenda ne batuuka awali amazzi, omulaawe n’agamba nti, “Laba amazzi! Kale lwaki sibatizibwa?”
Awo Firipo n’amugamba nti, “Oyinza okubatizibwa, bw’oba ng’okkiriza n’omutima gwo gwonna.” Omulaawe n’addamu nti, “Nzikiriza nga Yesu Kristo Mwana wa Katonda.”
38 He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
Awo n’alagira omugoba w’eggaali lye okuyimirira, ne bakka mu mazzi, Firipo n’amubatiza.
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn’t see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
Bwe baava mu mazzi amangwago Omwoyo wa Mukama n’atwala Firipo, Omulaawe n’ataddayo kumulaba nate, naye n’atambula olugendo lwe ng’ajjudde essanyu.
40 But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the Good News to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.
Naye Firipo n’alabikira mu Azoto, n’agenda ng’abuulira Enjiri mu bibuga byonna eby’omu kitundu ekyo okutuukira ddala e Kayisaliya.
