Acts 6

1 Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.

૧તે દિવસોમાં શિષ્યોની સંખ્યા વધતી જતી હતી, ત્યારે હિબ્રૂઓની સામે ગ્રીક યહૂદીઓએ ફરિયાદ કરી, કેમ કે રોજ વહેંચણીમાં તેઓની વિધવાઓને ટાળવામાં આવતી હતી.

2 The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.

૨ત્યારે બાર પ્રેરિતોએ બધા શિષ્યોને પોતાની પાસે બોલાવીને કહ્યું કે, અમે ઈશ્વરનું વચન પડતું મૂકીને ભોજન પીરસવાની સેવા કરીએ, એ ઉચિત નથી.

3 Therefore, select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

૩માટે, ભાઈઓ, તમે તમારામાંથી પવિત્ર આત્માથી તથા જ્ઞાનથી ભરપૂર એવા સાત પ્રતિષ્ઠિત માણસોને શોધી કાઢો, કે જેઓને અમે એ કામ પર નીમીએ.

4 But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”

૪પણ અમે તો પ્રાર્થનામાં તથા ઈશ્વરના વચનનાં સેવાકાર્યમાં લાગુ રહીશું.

5 These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,

૫એ વાત આખા વિશ્વાસી સમુદાયને સારી લાગી; અને વિશ્વાસ તથા પવિત્ર આત્માથી ભરપૂર એવા સ્તેફન નામના એક પુરુષને, ફિલિપને, પ્રોખરસને, નિકાનોરને, તિમોનને, પાર્મિનાસને તથા અંત્યોખના યહૂદી થયેલા નિકોલસને તેઓએ પસંદ કર્યા.

6 whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

૬તેઓએ તેમને પ્રેરિતોની આગળ રજૂ કર્યા; અને તેઓએ પ્રાર્થના કરીને તેમના પર હાથ મૂક્યા.

7 The word of God increased and the number of the disciples greatly multiplied in Jerusalem. A great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

૭ઈશ્વરના વચનોનો પ્રચાર થતો ગયો અને યરુશાલેમમાં શિષ્યોની સંખ્યા ઘણી વધી ગઈ; ઘણાં યાજકો પણ વિશ્વાસને આધીન થયા.

8 Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.

૮સ્તેફન કૃપાથી તથા સામર્થ્યથી ભરપૂર હતો, તેણે લોકોમાં મોટાં અદભુત આશ્ચર્યકર્મો તથા ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્નો કર્યાં.

9 But some of those who were of the synagogue called “The Libertines”, and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.

૯પણ લિબર્તીની કહેવાતી સભાસ્થાનમાંના, કુરેનીના, આલેકસાંદ્રિયાના, કિલીકિયાના તથા આસિયાના કેટલાક આગળ આવીને સ્તેફન સાથે વાદવિવાદ કરવા લાગ્યા.

10 They weren’t able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

૧૦પણ સ્તેફન એવા જ્ઞાનથી તથા આત્માની પ્રેરણાથી બોલતો હતો કે તેઓ તેની સામે ટકી શક્યા નહિ.

11 Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

૧૧ત્યારે તેઓએ કેટલાક માણસોને સમજાવ્યાં, જેઓએ કહ્યું કે, અમે તેને મૂસાના નિયમશાસ્ત્ર તથા ઈશ્વરની વિરુદ્ધ દુર્ભાષણ બોલતા સાંભળ્યો છે.

12 They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, then brought him in to the council,

૧૨તેઓ લોકોને, વડીલોને તથા શાસ્ત્રીઓને ઉશ્કેરીને તેના પર તૂટી પડ્યા, અને તેને પકડીને સભામાં લાવ્યા.

13 and set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.

૧૩તેઓએ જૂઠા સાક્ષીઓ ઊભા કર્યા, જેઓએ કહ્યું કે, એ માણસ આ પવિત્રસ્થાન તથા નિયમશાસ્ત્ર વિરુદ્ધ દુર્ભાષણ કર્યા કરે છે;

14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”

૧૪કેમ કે અમે તેને એમ કહેતાં સાંભળ્યો છે કે, ઈસુ નાઝારી આ સ્થાનનો નાશ કરશે, અને જે રીતરિવાજો મૂસાએ આપણને ફરમાવ્યા છે તેઓને બદલી નાખશે.

15 All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.

૧૫જેઓ સભામાં બેઠા હતા તેઓ સર્વ સ્તેફનની તરફ એક નજરે જોઈ રહ્યા, અને તેનો ચહેરો સ્વર્ગદૂતના ચહેરા જેવો દેખાયો.
