Acts 28
1 When we had escaped, then they learned that the island was called Malta.
Puestos en salvo, supimos entonces que la isla se llamaba Melita.
2 The natives showed us uncommon kindness; for they kindled a fire and received us all, because of the present rain and because of the cold.
Los bárbaros nos trataron con bondad extraordinaria; encendieron una hoguera y nos acogieron a todos a causa de la lluvia que estaba encima y a causa del frío.
3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened on his hand.
Mas al echar Pablo en el fuego una cantidad de ramaje que había recogido, salió una víbora a raíz del calor y prendiósele de la mano.
4 When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live.”
Al ver los bárbaros al reptil colgado de su mano, se decían unos a otros: “Ciertamente este hombre debe ser un homicida, a quien escapado salvo del mar, la Dike no le ha permitido vivir”.
5 However he shook off the creature into the fire, and wasn’t harmed.
Mas él sacudió el reptil en el fuego y no padeció daño alguno.
6 But they expected that he would have swollen or fallen down dead suddenly, but when they watched for a long time and saw nothing bad happen to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
Ellos, entretanto, estaban esperando que él se hinchase o cayese repentinamente muerto. Mas después de esperar mucho tiempo, viendo que ningún mal le acontecía, mudaron de parecer y dijeron que era un dios.
7 Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and courteously entertained us for three days.
En las cercanías de aquel lugar había campos que pertenecían al hombre principal de la isla, por nombre Publio, el cual nos acogió y nos hospedó benignamente por tres días.
8 The father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.
Y sucedió que el padre de Publio estaba en cama, acosado de fiebre y disentería. Pablo entró a él, hizo oración, le impuso las manos y le sanó.
9 Then when this was done, the rest also who had diseases in the island came and were cured.
Después de este suceso, acudían también las demás personas de la isla que tenían enfermedades, y eran sanadas,
10 They also honored us with many honors; and when we sailed, they put on board the things that we needed.
por cuyo motivo nos colmaron de muchos honores, y cuando nos hicimos a la vela nos proveyeron de lo necesario.
11 After three months, we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose figurehead was “The Twin Brothers.”
Al cabo de tres meses, nos embarcamos en una nave alejandrina que había invernado en la isla y llevaba la insignia de los Dióscuros.
12 Touching at Syracuse, we stayed there three days.
Aportamos a Siracusa, donde permanecimos tres días,
13 From there we circled around and arrived at Rhegium. After one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli,
De allí, costeando, arribamos a Regio; un día después se levantó el viento sur, y al segundo día llegamos a Putéolos,
14 where we found brothers, and were entreated to stay with them for seven days. So we came to Rome.
donde hallamos hermanos, y fuimos invitados a quedarnos con ellos siete días. Y así llegamos a Roma.
15 From there the brothers, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.
Teniendo noticia de nosotros, los hermanos de allí nos salieron al encuentro hasta Foro de Apio y Tres Tabernas. Al verlos, Pablo dio gracias a Dios y cobró buen ánimo.
16 When we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.
Cuando llegamos a Roma, se le permitió a Pablo vivir como particular con el soldado que le custodiaba.
17 After three days Paul called together those who were the leaders of the Jews. When they had come together, he said to them, “I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,
Tres días después convocó a los principales de los judíos, y habiéndose ellos reunido les dijo: “Varones, hermanos, yo sin haber hecho nada en contra del pueblo, ni contra las tradiciones de nuestros padres, desde Jerusalén fui entregado preso en manos de los romanos,
18 who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me.
los cuales después de hacer los interrogatorios querían ponerme en libertad, por no haber en mí ninguna causa de muerte;
19 But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.
mas oponiéndose a ellos los judíos, me vi obligado a apelar al César, pero no como que tuviese algo de que acusar a mi nación.
20 For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”
Este es, pues, el motivo porque os he llamado para veros y hablaros; porque a causa de la esperanza de Israel estoy ceñido de esta cadena”.
21 They said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you.
Respondiéronle ellos: “Nosotros ni hemos recibido cartas de Judea respecto de ti, ni hermano alguno de los que han llegado, ha contado o dicho mal de ti.
22 But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”
Sin embargo, deseamos oír de tu parte lo que piensas porque de la secta esa nos es conocido que halla contradicción en todas partes”.
23 When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about God’s Kingdom, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning until evening.
Le señalaron, pues, un día y vinieron a él en gran número a su alojamiento. Les explicó el reino de Dios, dando su testimonio, y procuraba persuadirlos acerca de Jesús, con arreglo a la Ley de Moisés y de los Profetas, desde la mañana hasta la tarde.
24 Some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.
Unos creían las cosas que decía; otros no creían.
25 When they didn’t agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one message: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,
No hubo acuerdo entre ellos y se alejaron mientras Pablo les decía una palabra: “Bien habló el Espíritu Santo por el profeta Isaías a vuestros padres,
26 saying, ‘Go to this people and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.
diciendo: «Ve a este pueblo y di: Oiréis con vuestros oídos y no entenderéis; miraréis con vuestros ojos, pero no veréis.
27 For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, then I would heal them.’
Porque se ha embotado el corazón de este pueblo; con sus oídos oyen pesadamente, y han cerrado sus ojos, para que no vean con sus ojos, ni oigan con sus oídos, ni con el corazón entiendan, y se conviertan y Yo les sane».
28 “Be it known therefore to you that the salvation of God is sent to the nations, and they will listen.”
Os sea notorio que esta salud de Dios ha sido transmitida a los gentiles, los cuales prestarán oídos”.
29 When he had said these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.
Habiendo él dicho esto, se fueron los judíos, teniendo grande discusión entre sí.
30 Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house and received all who were coming to him,
Permaneció ( Pablo ) durante dos años enteros en su propio alojamiento, que había alquilado, y recibía a todos cuantos le visitaban;
31 preaching God’s Kingdom and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.
predicando con toda libertad y sin obstáculo el reino de Dios, y enseñando las cosas tocantes al Señor Jesucristo.
