Acts 28
1 When we had escaped, then they learned that the island was called Malta.
Και αφού διεσώθησαν, τότε εγνώρισαν ότι η νήσος ονομάζεται Μελίτη.
2 The natives showed us uncommon kindness; for they kindled a fire and received us all, because of the present rain and because of the cold.
Οι δε βάρβαροι έδειξαν εις ημάς ου την τυχούσαν φιλανθρωπίαν· διότι ανάψαντες πυράν, υπεδέχθησαν πάντας ημάς διά την επικειμένην βροχήν και διά το ψύχος.
3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened on his hand.
Ότε δε ο Παύλος, συσσωρεύσας πλήθος φρυγάνων, έβαλεν επί την πυράν, έχιδνα εξελθούσα εκ της θερμότητος προσεκολλήθη εις την χείρα αυτού.
4 When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live.”
Ως δε είδον οι βάρβαροι το θηρίον κρεμάμενον εκ της χειρός αυτού, έλεγον προς αλλήλους· Βεβαίως φονεύς είναι ο άνθρωπος ούτος, τον οποίον διασωθέντα εκ της θαλάσσης η θεία δίκη δεν αφήκε να ζη.
5 However he shook off the creature into the fire, and wasn’t harmed.
Και αυτός μεν απετίναξε το θηρίον εις το πυρ και δεν έπαθεν ουδέν κακόν·
6 But they expected that he would have swollen or fallen down dead suddenly, but when they watched for a long time and saw nothing bad happen to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
εκείνοι δε επρόσμενον ότι έμελλε να πρησθή ή εξαίφνης να πέση κάτω νεκρός. Αφού όμως επρόσμενον πολλήν ώραν και έβλεπον ότι ουδέν κακόν εγίνετο εις αυτόν, μεταβαλόντες στοχασμόν έλεγον ότι είναι Θεός.
7 Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and courteously entertained us for three days.
Εις τα πέριξ δε του τόπου εκείνου ήσαν κτήματα του πρώτου της νήσου ονομαζομένου Ποπλίου, όστις αναδεχθείς ημάς, εξένισε φιλοφρόνως τρεις ημέρας.
8 The father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.
Συνέβη δε να ήναι κατάκειτος ο πατήρ του Ποπλίου, πάσχων πυρετόν και δυσεντερίαν· προς τον οποίον εισελθών ο Παύλος και προσευχηθείς, επέθεσεν επ' αυτόν τας χείρας και ιάτρευσεν αυτόν.
9 Then when this was done, the rest also who had diseases in the island came and were cured.
Τούτου λοιπόν γενομένου και οι λοιποί, όσοι είχον ασθενείας εν τη νήσω, προσήρχοντο και εθεραπεύοντο·
10 They also honored us with many honors; and when we sailed, they put on board the things that we needed.
οίτινες και με τιμάς πολλάς ετίμησαν ημάς και ότε εμέλλομεν να αναχωρήσωμεν, εφωδίασαν με τα χρειώδη.
11 After three months, we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose figurehead was “The Twin Brothers.”
Μετά δε τρεις μήνας απεπλεύσαμεν επί πλοίου Αλεξανδρινού, με σημαίαν των Διοσκούρων, το οποίον είχε παραχειμάσει εν τη νήσω,
12 Touching at Syracuse, we stayed there three days.
και φθάσαντες εις τας Συρακούσας, εμείναμεν τρεις ημέρας·
13 From there we circled around and arrived at Rhegium. After one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli,
εκείθεν δε περιπλεύσαντες κατηντήσαμεν εις Ρήγιον, και μετά μίαν ημέραν, πνεύσαντος νότου, την δευτέραν ημέραν ήλθομεν εις Ποτιόλους·
14 where we found brothers, and were entreated to stay with them for seven days. So we came to Rome.
όπου ευρόντες αδελφούς, παρεκαλέσθημεν να μείνωμεν παρ' αυτοίς επτά ημέρας, και ούτως ήλθομεν εις την Ρώμην.
15 From there the brothers, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.
Εκείθεν δε ακούσαντες οι αδελφοί τα περί ημών, εξήλθον εις απάντησιν ημών έως του Αππίου Φόρου και των Τριών Ταβερνών, τους οποίους ιδών ο Παύλος, ηυχαρίστησε τον Θεόν και έλαβε θάρρος.
16 When we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.
Ότε δε ήλθομεν εις Ρώμην, ο εκατόνταρχος παρέδωκε τους δεσμίους εις τον στρατοπεδάρχην· εις τον Παύλον όμως συνεχωρήθη να μένη καθ' εαυτόν μετά του στρατιώτου, όστις εφύλαττεν αυτόν.
17 After three days Paul called together those who were the leaders of the Jews. When they had come together, he said to them, “I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,
Μετά δε τρεις ημέρας συνεκάλεσεν ο Παύλος τους όντας των Ιουδαίων πρώτους· και αφού συνήλθον, έλεγε προς αυτούς· Άνδρες αδελφοί, εγώ ουδέν εναντίον πράξας εις τον λαόν ή εις τα έθιμα τα πατρώα, παρεδόθην εξ Ιεροσολύμων δέσμιος εις τας χείρας των Ρωμαίων·
18 who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me.
οίτινες αφού με ανέκριναν, ήθελον να με απολύσωσι, διότι ουδεμία αιτία θανάτου υπήρχεν εν εμοί.
19 But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.
Επειδή δε αντέλεγον οι Ιουδαίοι, ηναγκάσθην να επικαλεσθώ τον Καίσαρα, ουχί ως έχων να κατηγορήσω κατά τι το έθνος μου.
20 For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”
Διά ταύτην λοιπόν την αιτίαν σας εκάλεσα, διά να σας ίδω και ομιλήσω· διότι ένεκα της ελπίδος του Ισραήλ φορώ ταύτην την άλυσιν.
21 They said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you.
Οι δε είπον προς αυτόν· Ημείς ούτε γράμματα ελάβομεν περί σου από της Ιουδαίας, ούτε ελθών τις εκ των αδελφών απήγγειλεν ή ελάλησέ τι κακόν περί σου.
22 But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”
Επιθυμούμεν δε να ακούσωμεν παρά σου τι φρονείς διότι περί της αιρέσεως ταύτης είναι γνωστόν εις ημάς ότι πανταχού αντιλέγεται.
23 When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about God’s Kingdom, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning until evening.
Και αφού διώρισαν εις αυτόν ημέραν, ήλθον προς αυτόν πολλοί εις το κατάλυμα, εις τους οποίους εξέθεσε διά μαρτυριών την βασιλείαν του Θεού και έπειθεν αυτούς εις τα περί του Ιησού από τε του νόμου του Μωϋσέως και των προφητών από πρωΐ έως εσπέρας.
24 Some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.
Και άλλοι μεν επείθοντο εις τα λεγόμενα, άλλοι δε ηπίστουν.
25 When they didn’t agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one message: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,
Ασύμφωνοι δε όντες προς αλλήλους ανεχώρουν, αφού ο Παύλος είπεν ένα λόγον, ότι καλώς ελάλησε το Πνεύμα το Άγιον προς τους πατέρας ημών διά Ησαΐου του προφήτου,
26 saying, ‘Go to this people and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.
λέγον· Ύπαγε προς τον λαόν τούτον και ειπέ· Με την ακοήν θέλετε ακούσει και δεν θέλετε εννοήσει, και βλέποντες θέλετε ιδεί και δεν θέλετε καταλάβει·
27 For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, then I would heal them.’
διότι επαχύνθη η καρδία του λαού τούτου, και με τα ώτα βαρέως ήκουσαν και τους οφθαλμούς αυτών έκλεισαν, μήποτε ίδωσι με τους οφθαλμούς και ακούσωσι με τα ώτα και νοήσωσι με την καρδίαν και επιστρέψωσι, και ιατρεύσω αυτούς.
28 “Be it known therefore to you that the salvation of God is sent to the nations, and they will listen.”
Γνωστόν λοιπόν έστω εις εσάς ότι εις τα έθνη απεστάλη το σωτήριον του Θεού, αυτοί και θέλουσιν ακούσει.
29 When he had said these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.
Και αφού είπε ταύτα ανεχώρησαν οι Ιουδαίοι έχοντες πολλήν συζήτησιν προς αλλήλους.
30 Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house and received all who were coming to him,
Έμεινε δε ο Παύλος δύο ολόκληρα έτη εν ιδιαιτέρα μισθωτή οικία και εδέχετο πάντας τους ερχομένους προς αυτόν,
31 preaching God’s Kingdom and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.
κηρύττων την βασιλείαν του Θεού και διδάσκων μετά πάσης παρρησίας ακωλύτως τα περί του Κυρίου Ιησού Χριστού.
