Acts 27
1 When it was determined that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan band.
കടൽമാർഗം യാത്രചെയ്താണ് ഞങ്ങൾ ഇറ്റലിയിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടത് എന്നു തീരുമാനമായപ്പോൾ അവർ പൗലോസിനെയും മറ്റുചില തടവുകാരെയും ചക്രവർത്തിയുടെ സേനാവിഭാഗത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട, യൂലിയൊസ് എന്ന ശതാധിപനെ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു.
2 Embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail to places on the coast of Asia, we put to sea, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica being with us.
ഏഷ്യാപ്രവിശ്യയുടെ തീരത്തുള്ള സ്ഥലങ്ങൾക്കു സമീപത്തുകൂടി യാത്രചെയ്യാൻ പുറപ്പെടുന്ന അദ്രമുത്ത്യ തുറമുഖപട്ടണത്തിലെ ഒരു കപ്പലിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ യാത്രയാരംഭിച്ചു. മക്കദോന്യപ്രദേശത്തുള്ള തെസ്സലോനിക്യപട്ടണക്കാരനായ അരിസ്തർഹൊസും ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
3 The next day, we touched at Sidon. Julius treated Paul kindly and gave him permission to go to his friends and refresh himself.
പിറ്റേദിവസം ഞങ്ങൾ സീദോനിൽ ഇറങ്ങി: യൂലിയൊസ് പൗലോസിനോടുള്ള ദയനിമിത്തം അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു തന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പോകാനും അവരുടെ സൽക്കാരം സ്വീകരിക്കാനും അനുവാദം നൽകി.
4 Putting to sea from there, we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
അവിടെനിന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾ കപ്പൽയാത്ര തുടർന്നു; കാറ്റു പ്രതികൂലമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് സൈപ്രസ് ദ്വീപിന്റെ മറപറ്റിയാണ് ഓടിയത്.
5 When we had sailed across the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.
കടൽമാർഗം കിലിക്യയുടെയും പംഫുല്യയുടെയും തീരത്തോടുചേർന്ന്, യാത്രചെയ്ത് ഞങ്ങൾ ലുക്കിയയിലെ മുറായിൽ എത്തി.
6 There the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy, and he put us on board.
അവിടെ ഇറ്റലിയിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന ഒരു അലെക്സന്ത്രിയാക്കപ്പൽ കണ്ടിട്ടു ശതാധിപൻ ഞങ്ങളെ അതിൽ കയറ്റി.
7 When we had sailed slowly many days, and had come with difficulty opposite Cnidus, the wind not allowing us further, we sailed under the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone.
ഞങ്ങളുടെ യാത്ര പല ദിവസങ്ങൾ തീരെ മന്ദഗതിയിലായിരുന്നു; വളരെ പ്രയാസപ്പെട്ട് ഞങ്ങൾ ക്നിദോസ് പട്ടണത്തിനു സമീപത്തെത്തി. മുമ്പോട്ടുപോകാൻ കാറ്റ് അനുവദിക്കാതിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങൾ സാൽമോനെതിരേയുള്ള ക്രേത്തദ്വീപിന്റെ മറവിലേക്കു കപ്പലോടിച്ചു.
8 With difficulty sailing along it we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea.
തീരത്തോടുചേർന്നു ക്ലേശിച്ചു മുമ്പോട്ടുനീങ്ങി, ലസയ്യ പട്ടണത്തിനടുത്തുള്ള “മനോഹരതുറമുഖം” എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തെത്തി.
9 When much time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous because the Fast had now already gone by, Paul admonished them
ഇതിനോടകം ഞങ്ങൾക്കു വളരെ സമയം നഷ്ടമായി. പാപപരിഹാരദിനത്തിന്റെ ഉപവാസകാലം കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. അപ്പോഴേക്കും, സമുദ്രയാത്ര ആപൽക്കരമായിത്തീർന്നിരുന്നതിനാൽ പൗലോസ് അവർക്കു മുന്നറിയിപ്പു നൽകിക്കൊണ്ട് ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു:
10 and said to them, “Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.”
“പുരുഷന്മാരേ, നമ്മുടെ ഈ സമുദ്രയാത്ര നാശകരമാകും. അതു കപ്പലിനും ചരക്കിനും നമ്മുടെ ജീവനുപോലും ഭീമമായ നഷ്ടം വരുത്താൻപോകുന്നതായി ഞാൻ കാണുന്നു.”
11 But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship than to those things which were spoken by Paul.
എന്നാൽ ശതാധിപൻ പൗലോസിന്റെ വാക്കുകളെക്കാൾ കപ്പിത്താന്റെയും കപ്പലുടമയുടെയും ഉപദേശമാണു കൂടുതൽ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചത്.
12 Because the haven was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised going to sea from there, if by any means they could reach Phoenix and winter there, which is a port of Crete, looking southwest and northwest.
ആ തുറമുഖം ശീതകാലം ചെലവഴിക്കാൻ യോജിച്ചതല്ലായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് വല്ലവിധത്തിലും ഫൊയ്നീക്യയിലെത്തി, ശീതകാലം അവിടെകഴിക്കാമെന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷയിൽ യാത്ര തുടരണമെന്നു ഭൂരിപക്ഷം ആളുകളും അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു. തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടും വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടും കടലിലേക്കു ദർശനമുള്ള ക്രേത്ത ദ്വീപിലെ തുറമുഖമാണു ഫൊയ്നീക.
13 When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to shore.
തെക്കൻകാറ്റു മന്ദമായി വീശിത്തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ, തങ്ങളുടെ ഉദ്ദേശ്യം സാധിച്ചു എന്നുതന്നെ അവർ കരുതി. അതുകൊണ്ടു നങ്കൂരമുയർത്തി, ക്രേത്തയുടെ തീരംചേർന്ന് അവർ യാത്രതുടർന്നു.
14 But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euroclydon.
എന്നാൽ, അധികം സമയം ആകുന്നതിനുമുമ്പുതന്നെ, “വടക്കു-കിഴക്കൻ” എന്ന കൊടുങ്കാറ്റ് ദ്വീപിൽനിന്ന് ആഞ്ഞടിച്ചു.
15 When the ship was caught and couldn’t face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along.
കപ്പൽ കൊടുങ്കാറ്റിൽ അകപ്പെട്ടു; കാറ്റിനെതിരായി മുമ്പോട്ടുപോകാൻ സാധ്യമല്ലാതായി. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങൾ കാറ്റിനു വിധേയരാകുകയും അത് ഞങ്ങളെ ഒഴുക്കിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുകയും ചെയ്തു.
16 Running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat.
ക്ലൗദ എന്ന കൊച്ചുദ്വീപിന്റെ മറപറ്റി ഞങ്ങൾ ഓടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോൾ, പ്രാണരക്ഷയ്ക്കുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന വള്ളം സുരക്ഷിതമായി വെക്കാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ വളരെ പ്രയാസപ്പെട്ടു.
17 After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis sand bars, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along.
അതു വലിച്ചുപൊക്കി കപ്പലിനോടു ചേർത്ത് കെട്ടിയുറപ്പിച്ചു. അതിനുശേഷം, കപ്പൽ സിർതിസിലെ മണൽത്തിട്ടകളിൽ ചെന്നുകയറുമെന്നു പേടിച്ച് കപ്പൽപ്പായ്‌കൾ താഴ്ത്തി, കപ്പലിനെ അതിന്റെ ഗതിക്കുവിട്ടു.
18 As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard.
പിറ്റേന്ന് ഉഗ്രമായ കൊടുങ്കാറ്റിൽപ്പെട്ട് കപ്പൽ ആടിയുലഞ്ഞതിനാൽ, അവർ ചരക്കുകൾ കടലിലേക്കെറിഞ്ഞുകളയാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
19 On the third day, they threw out the ship’s tackle with their own hands.
മൂന്നാംദിവസം അവർ സ്വന്തം കൈകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ കപ്പലിന്റെ ഭാരം കൂടിയ ഉപകരണങ്ങളും എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു.
20 When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.
അനേകം ദിവസങ്ങൾ സൂര്യനെയോ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെയോ കാണാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല; കൊടുങ്കാറ്റ് തുടരെ അടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു; രക്ഷപ്പെടുമെന്നുള്ള സകലപ്രതീക്ഷയും ഒടുവിൽ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു നഷ്ടമായി.
21 When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them and said, “Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete and have gotten this injury and loss.
കൂടെയുള്ളവർ ദിവസങ്ങളായി ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കാതിരുന്നപ്പോൾ, പൗലോസ് അവരുടെമുമ്പിൽ എഴുന്നേറ്റുനിന്നുകൊണ്ട് ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: “മാന്യരേ, ക്രേത്തയിൽനിന്ന് യാത്ര പുറപ്പെടരുതെന്നുള്ള എന്റെ ഉപദേശം നിങ്ങൾ സ്വീകരിക്കേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു; എങ്കിൽ ഈ നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങൾ ഒഴിവാക്കാമായിരുന്നു.
22 Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.
എങ്കിലും ഇപ്പോൾ ധൈര്യത്തോടെയിരിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു നിർബന്ധമായി പറയുന്നു. നിങ്ങളിലാർക്കും ജീവഹാനി സംഭവിക്കുകയില്ല, കപ്പൽമാത്രമേ നശിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ.
23 For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve,
ഞാൻ സേവിക്കുന്ന എന്റെ ഉടയവനായ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഒരു ദൂതൻ കഴിഞ്ഞരാത്രിയിൽ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നുനിന്ന്
24 saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. Behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’
എന്നോട്, ‘പൗലോസേ, ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ട, നീ കൈസറുടെമുമ്പിൽ വിസ്താരത്തിനു നിൽക്കേണ്ടവനാകുന്നു. നിന്നോടൊപ്പം യാത്രചെയ്യുന്നവരെ ദൈവം നിനക്കു നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നു’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
25 Therefore, sirs, cheer up! For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me.
ആകയാൽ മാന്യരേ, ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുക, നമ്മുടെ കപ്പൽ ഒരു ദ്വീപിന്റെ കരയ്ക്കടിച്ചു തകരുമെങ്കിലും ദൈവം എന്നോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുപോലെതന്നെ സംഭവിക്കുമെന്ന് ഞാൻ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.”
26 But we must run aground on a certain island.”
27 But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land.
ഇതിന്റെ പതിന്നാലാം രാത്രിയിൽ, ഞങ്ങൾ അദ്രിയക്കടലിലൂടെ തിരമാലകളാൽ ആടിയുലഞ്ഞ് മുന്നോട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ, അർധരാത്രിയോടെ, ഏതോ ഒരു തീരം അടുത്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നെന്ന് നാവികർക്കു തോന്നി.
28 They took soundings and found twenty fathoms. After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms.
അവിടെ വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ആഴം അളന്നു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ഏകദേശം മുപ്പത്തിയേഴു മീറ്റർ എന്നുകണ്ടു. കുറച്ചു സമയം കഴിഞ്ഞ് വീണ്ടും വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ആഴം നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ഏകദേശം ഇരുപത്തിയേഴു മീറ്റർ എന്നുകണ്ടു.
29 Fearing that we would run aground on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for daylight.
ഞങ്ങൾ പാറക്കെട്ടുകളിൽ തട്ടിത്തകരുമെന്നുള്ള ഭയത്താൽ അവർ നാലു നങ്കൂരങ്ങൾ അമരത്തുനിന്നു താഴ്ത്തി, നേരം പുലരുന്നതിനുവേണ്ടി പ്രാർഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
30 As the sailors were trying to flee out of the ship and had lowered the boat into the sea, pretending that they would lay out anchors from the bow,
അണിയത്തുനിന്നു നങ്കൂരം ഇറക്കുന്നു എന്ന ഭാവത്തിൽ പ്രാണരക്ഷയ്ക്കുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന വള്ളം കടലിലിറക്കി നാവികർ കപ്പലിൽനിന്നു രക്ഷപ്പെടാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു.
31 Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, “Unless these stay in the ship, you can’t be saved.”
അപ്പോൾ പൗലോസ് ശതാധിപനോടും പട്ടാളക്കാരോടും, “ഈ ആളുകൾ കപ്പലിൽത്തന്നെ നിന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങൾക്കു രക്ഷപ്പെടാൻ കഴിയുകയില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
32 Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat and let it fall off.
അപ്പോൾ പട്ടാളക്കാർ കയർ മുറിച്ചു വള്ളം കടലിൽ തള്ളി.
33 While the day was coming on, Paul begged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing.
പുലർച്ചയ്ക്ക് അൽപ്പംമുമ്പ് പൗലോസ് അവരെയെല്ലാവരെയും ആഹാരം കഴിക്കാൻ നിർബന്ധിച്ചു. “കഴിഞ്ഞ പതിന്നാലു ദിവസമായി നിങ്ങൾ നിരന്തരമായ അനിശ്ചിതത്വംമൂലം ആഹാരം വെടിഞ്ഞു കഴിയുകയായിരുന്നല്ലോ.
34 Therefore I beg you to take some food, for this is for your safety; for not a hair will perish from any of your heads.”
ഇപ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ ദയവായി അൽപ്പമെന്തെങ്കിലും ആഹാരം കഴിക്കണമെന്നാണ് എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ. നിങ്ങളുടെ ജീവരക്ഷയ്ക്ക് അത് അത്യാവശ്യമാണ്. നിങ്ങളിൽ ആരുടെയും ഒരു തലമുടിപോലും നഷ്ടമാകുകയില്ല,” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
35 When he had said this and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all; then he broke it and began to eat.
ഇതു പറഞ്ഞതിനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം അപ്പമെടുത്ത് എല്ലാവരും കാൺകെ ദൈവത്തിനു സ്തോത്രംചെയ്തു മുറിച്ചു തിന്നുതുടങ്ങി.
36 Then they all cheered up, and they also took food.
അപ്പോൾ അവർക്കെല്ലാവർക്കും ധൈര്യമായി; അവരും ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.
37 In all, we were two hundred seventy-six souls on the ship.
കപ്പലിൽ ഞങ്ങളെല്ലാവരുംകൂടി ഇരുനൂറ്റിയെഴുപത്തിയാറു പേരുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
38 When they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.
എല്ലാവരും വേണ്ടുന്നത്ര ഭക്ഷിച്ചതിനുശേഷം ധാന്യം കടലിലേക്കെറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞ് കപ്പലിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറച്ചു.
39 When it was day, they didn’t recognize the land, but they noticed a certain bay with a beach, and they decided to try to drive the ship onto it.
നേരം വെളുത്തപ്പോൾ, സ്ഥലം ഏതെന്നു തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ അവർക്കു കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കിലും മണൽത്തീരമുള്ള ഒരു ഉൾക്കടൽ കണ്ടിട്ട്, കഴിയുമെങ്കിൽ കപ്പൽ അവിടെ അടുപ്പിക്കാൻ അവർ നിശ്ചയിച്ചു.
40 Casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time untying the rudder ropes. Hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.
അവർ നങ്കൂരങ്ങൾ മുറിച്ചു കടലിൽത്തള്ളുകയും ചുക്കാൻ ബന്ധിച്ചിരുന്ന കയർ അഴിച്ചുവിടുകയും ചെയ്തു. പിന്നീട് കാറ്റിനെതിരേ പായ നിവർത്തി കരയ്ക്കുനേരേ നീങ്ങി.
41 But coming to a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground. The bow struck and remained immovable, but the stern began to break up by the violence of the waves.
എന്നാൽ കപ്പൽ ഇരുവശവും കടലുള്ള ഒരു മണൽത്തിട്ടയിൽ കയറി ഉറച്ചുപോയി. അണിയം അനക്കമില്ലാതാകുകയും അമരം തിരകളുടെ ആഘാതത്തിൽ തകർന്നുപോകുകയും ചെയ്തു.
42 The soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, so that none of them would swim out and escape.
തടവുകാരിൽ ആരും നീന്തി രക്ഷപ്പെടാതിരിക്കാൻ അവരെ കൊന്നുകളയണമെന്നു പടയാളികൾ ആലോചിച്ചു.
43 But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stopped them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should throw themselves overboard first to go toward the land;
എന്നാൽ, ശതാധിപൻ പൗലോസിന്റെ ജീവൻ രക്ഷിക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് ആ ആലോചനയിൽനിന്ന് അവരെ പിന്തിരിപ്പിച്ചു. നീന്താൻ കഴിവുള്ളവർ കപ്പലിൽനിന്ന് ആദ്യം ചാടി നീന്തി കരയ്ക്കെത്തിക്കൊള്ളാനും
44 and the rest should follow, some on planks and some on other things from the ship. So they all escaped safely to the land.
ശേഷമുള്ളവർ പലകകളിലോ കപ്പലിന്റെ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളിലോ പിടിച്ചു കരയിൽ എത്താനും അദ്ദേഹം ഉത്തരവിട്ടു. ഇങ്ങനെ എല്ലാവരും സുരക്ഷിതരായി കരയ്ക്കെത്തി.
