Acts 24
1 After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul.
૧પાંચ દિવસ પછી અનાન્યા પ્રમુખ યાજક, કેટલાક વડીલોને તથા તર્તુલસ નામે એક વકીલને સાથે લઈને આવ્યો, તેઓએ રાજ્યપાલની સમક્ષ પાઉલની વિરુદ્ધ ફરિયાદ રજૂ કરી.
2 When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, “Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that prosperity is coming to this nation by your foresight,
૨પાઉલને બોલાવવામાં આવ્યો ત્યારે તર્તુલસ નીચે દર્શાવ્યા પ્રમાણે બોલીને તેના વિરુદ્ધ આરોપ મૂકવાનું શરૂ કરતા કહ્યું કે, ‘ઓ નેકનામદાર ફેલીક્સ, આપનાથી અમે બહુ સુખશાંતિ પામીએ છીએ, આપની સમજદારીથી આ પ્રજાના લાભમાં અનર્થો દૂર કરવામાં આવે છે,
3 we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.
૩તેથી અમે સર્વ પ્રકારે આપના ખૂબ આભારી છીએ.
4 But that I don’t delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words.
૪પણ હું આપને વધારે તસ્દી ન આપું માટે હું વિનંતી કરું છું કે, કૃપા કરીને અમારી થોડી વાતો સાંભળો.
5 For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.
૫કે આ માણસ પીડાકારક તથા આખા જગતના સર્વ યહૂદીઓમાં હંગામો પેદા કરનાર તથા ઈસુ નાઝારી પંથનો આગેવાન હોવાનું અમને માલૂમ પડયું છે.
6 He even tried to profane the temple, and we arrested him.
૬તેણે ભક્તિસ્થાનને પણ અશુદ્ધ કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો હતો, ત્યારે અમે તેની ધરપકડ કરી; અને અમે અમારા શાસ્ત્ર પ્રમાણે તેનો ન્યાય કરવા માગતા હતા.
૭પણ લુકિયસ સરદાર આવીને બહુ બળજબરી કરીને અમારા હાથમાંથી તેને છોડાવી લઈ ગયા.
8 By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him.”
૮તેના પર ફરિયાદ કરનારાઓને આપની પાસે આવવાની આજ્ઞા કરી. એની તપાસ આપ પોતે કરશો, જે સઘળા વિશે અમે એના પર દોષ મૂકીએ છીએ તે સર્વથી આપ વાકેફ થશો.
9 The Jews also joined in the attack, affirming that these things were so.
૯યહૂદીઓએ પણ ફરિયાદમાં સામેલ થઈને કહ્યું કે, એ વાતો એ પ્રમાણે જ છે.
10 When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, “Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense,
૧૦પછી રાજ્યપાલે પાઉલને બોલવાનો ઇશારો કર્યો, ત્યારે તેણે ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘ઘણાં વર્ષોથી તમે આ દેશના ન્યાયાધીશ છો, એ જાણીને હું ખુશીથી પોતાના બચાવમાં પ્રત્યુત્તર આપું છું.
11 seeing that you can verify that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem.
૧૧કેમ કે (તપાસ કરવાથી) આપને માલૂમ પડશે કે ભજન કરવા સારુ યરુશાલેમમાં જવાને મને બાર કરતાં વધારે દિવસ થયા નથી.
12 In the temple they didn’t find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city.
૧૨સભાસ્થાનોમાં કે શહેરમાં કોઈની સાથે વાદવિવાદ કરતો, અથવા લોકોમાં હંગામો ઉઠાવતો તેઓએ મને જોયો નથી.
13 Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me.
૧૩મારા પર જે આરોપો તેઓ હમણાં મૂકે છે તેની સાબિતી તેઓ આપની આગળ કરી શકતા નથી.
14 But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;
૧૪પણ આપની આગળ હું આટલું કબૂલ કરું છું કે, જે માર્ગને તેઓ દુર્મતે કહે છે તે પ્રમાણે હું અમારા પૂર્વજોના ઈશ્વરની ભક્તિ કરું છું, જે વચનો નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાં તથા પ્રબોધકોના પુસ્તકમાં લખેલી છે તે સર્વ હું માનું છું.
15 having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
૧૫હું ઈશ્વર વિષે એવી આશા રાખું છું, જેમ તેઓ પોતે પણ રાખે છે, કે ન્યાયીઓ તથા અન્યાયીઓનું પુનરુત્થાન થશે.
16 In this I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.
૧૬વળી હું એવો પ્રયત્ન કરું છું કે, ઈશ્વરની તથા માણસોની પ્રત્યે હું સદા નિર્દોષ અંતઃકરણ રાખું.
17 Now after some years, I came to bring gifts for the needy to my nation, and offerings;
૧૭હવે ઘણા વર્ષ પછી હું પોતાના લોકને દાન આપવાને અને અર્પણ કરવાને આવ્યો.
18 amid which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, not with a mob, nor with turmoil.
૧૮તે દરમ્યાન તેઓએ મને ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં શુદ્ધ થયેલો જોયો, ત્યાં ભીડ કે તોફાન થયું નહોતું; પણ આસિયાના કેટલાક યહૂદીઓ (ત્યાં હતા),
19 They ought to have been here before you and to make accusation if they had anything against me.
૧૯જો મારી વિરુદ્ધમાં તેઓને કંઈ કહેવાનું હોત, તો તેઓ અહીં આપની પાસે આવીને આરોપો મૂકવા જોઈતા હતા.
20 Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,
૨૦હવે આ માણસો પોતે કહી બતાવે કે, હું ન્યાયસભાની આગળ ઊભો હતો ત્યારે મારામાં તેઓને કયો ગુનો માલૂમ પડ્યો હતો?
21 unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!’”
૨૧એટલું તો ખરું કે, તેઓની મધ્યે ઊભા રહીને મેં આ એક વચન કહ્યું કે, મૂએલાઓના પુનરુત્થાન વિષે તમારી રૂબરૂ આજે મારો ન્યાય કરવામાં આવે છે.’”
22 But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, “When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case.”
૨૨પણ ફેલીક્સને તે માર્ગ વિષે વધારે ચોક્કસ જ્ઞાન હતું, માટે તેણે મુકાદમાને મુલતવી રાખીને તેઓને કહ્યું કે લુકિયસ સરદાર આવશે ત્યારે હું તમારા કામનો નિર્ણય કરીશ.
23 He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.
૨૩તેણે સૂબેદારને આજ્ઞા કરી કે, તેને જાપતામાં રાખવો પણ તેને છૂટ આપવી, અને તેના મિત્રોમાંના કોઈને તેની સેવા કરવાની મના કરવી નહિ.
24 After some days, Felix came with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.
૨૪પણ કેટલાક દિવસ પછી ફેલીક્સ પોતાની પત્ની દ્રુસિલા, કે જે યહૂદી હતી, તેની સાથે આવ્યો, અને તેણે પાઉલને બોલાવીને ખ્રિસ્ત પરના વિશ્વાસ વિષે વચન સાંભળ્યું.
25 As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.”
૨૫પાઉલ સદાચાર, સંયમ તથા આવનાર ન્યાયકાળ વિષે સમજાવતો હતો, ત્યારે ફેલીક્સે ભયભીત થઈને ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘હમણાં તો તું જા, મને અનુકૂળ પ્રસંગ મળશે ત્યારે હું તને મારી પાસે બોલાવીશ.’”
26 Meanwhile, he also hoped that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him more often and talked with him.
૨૬તે એવી પણ આશા રાખતો હતો કે, પાઉલ મને પૈસા (લાંચ) આપશે; એ સારુ તે તેને ઘણી વાર બોલાવીને તેની સાથે વાતચીત કરતો હતો.
27 But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.
૨૭પણ બે વર્ષ પછી ફેલીક્સની જગ્યાએ પોર્કિયસ ફેસ્તસ આવ્યો, યહૂદીઓને પ્રસન્ન કરવાની ઇચ્છાથી ફેલીક્સ પાઉલને બંધનમાં મૂકી ગયો.
