Acts 19
1 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus and found certain disciples.
Y aconteció que mientras Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, habiendo atravesado la región más alta, vino a Efeso, donde había ciertos discípulos:
2 He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Y les dijo: ¿Obtuvieron el Espíritu Santo cuando tuvieron fe? Y ellos le dijeron: Ni siquiera hemos oído que hay del Espíritu Santo.
3 He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”
Y él dijo: ¿Qué tipo de bautismo tuviste? Y ellos dijeron: El bautismo de Juan.
4 Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Christ Jesus.”
Y Pablo dijo: Juan bautizó, con un bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo a las personas que creyesen en el que venía detrás de él, es decir, en Jesús el cristo.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Y al oír esto, tuvieron el bautismo en el nombre del Señor Jesús.
6 When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they spoke with other languages and prophesied.
Y cuando Pablo les impuso las manos, el Espíritu Santo vino sobre ellos; y tenían el poder de hablar en lenguas y actuar como profetas.
7 They were about twelve men in all.
Y había como doce de estos hombres.
8 He entered into the synagogue and spoke boldly for a period of three months, reasoning and persuading about the things concerning God’s Kingdom.
Y entró en la sinagoga, y estuvo allí tres meses predicando sin temor, razonando y enseñando acerca del reino de Dios.
9 But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.
Pero debido a que algunas personas eran duras de corazón y no oían, maldecían y hablaban mal del nuevo Camino ante la gente, él se alejó de ellos, y mantenía a los discípulos separados, razonando todos los días en la escuela de Tiranno.
10 This continued for two years, so that all those who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
Y esto continuó por dos años, de modo que todos los que vivían en Asia tenían conocimiento de la palabra del Señor, griegos y judíos.
11 God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul,
Y Dios hizo milagros extraordinarios por medio de Pablo:
12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out.
De modo que se llevaron vestimentas y vestidos de su cuerpo a personas que estaban enfermas, y sus enfermedades se iban de ellos y los espíritus malos salían.
13 But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to invoke over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”
Pero algunos de los judíos que iban de un lugar a otro expulsando a los espíritus malignos, se valieron de sí mismos para hacer uso del nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los que tenían espíritus malignos, diciendo: Te doy órdenes, por Jesús, a quien Pablo está predicando.
14 There were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.
Y había siete hijos de un hombre llamado Esceva, un judío y un sacerdote principal, que hicieron esto.
15 The evil spirit answered, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?”
Y respondiendo el espíritu malo, les dijo: Yo tengo conocimiento de Jesús, y de Pablo, pero ¿quién eres tú?
16 The man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Y el hombre en quien estaba el espíritu malo, saltando sobre ellos, era más fuerte que ellos dos, y los venció, y salieron corriendo de aquella casa, heridos y sin sus ropas.
17 This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
Y esto llegó a oídos de todos aquellos, judíos y griegos, que vivían en Efeso; y el temor vino sobre todos ellos, y el nombre del Señor Jesús se hizo grande.
18 Many also of those who had believed came, confessing and declaring their deeds.
Y algunos de los que tenían fe vinieron e hicieron una declaración pública de sus pecados y de todos sus actos.
19 Many of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. They counted their price, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver.
Y un gran número de aquellos que eran expertos en la magia tomaron sus libros y los pusieron en el fuego delante de todos: y cuando los libros fueron valorados, llegaron a cincuenta mil pedazos de plata.
20 So the word of the Lord was growing and becoming mighty.
Así que la palabra del Señor se incrementó en gran manera y demostrando su poder.
21 Now after these things had ended, Paul determined in the Spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.”
Una vez que estas cosas terminaron, Pablo tomó la decisión guiado por el espíritu Santo de que cuando atravesara Macedonia y Acaya iría a Jerusalén, y le dijo: Después de haber estado allí, deseo ver Roma.
22 Having sent into Macedonia two of those who served him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.
Y habiendo enviado dos de sus ayudantes, Timoteo y Erasto, a Macedonia, él mismo siguió viviendo en Asia por un tiempo.
23 About that time there arose no small disturbance concerning the Way.
Y en ese momento se produjo una gran protesta acerca del Nuevo Camino.
24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen,
Porque había un hombre llamado Demetrio, un trabajador de la plata, que hizo cajas de plata para las imágenes de Diana, y daba mucha ganancia a los obreros que trabajaban con el;
25 whom he gathered together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, “Sirs, you know that by this business we have our wealth.
A quien se unió, con otros obreros del mismo oficio, y les dijo: Hombres, está claro que de este negocio obtenemos nuestra riqueza.
26 You see and hear that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods that are made with hands.
Pero como ven y oyen, que no solo en Éfeso, sino casi en toda Asia, este Pablo ha estado enseñando y convenciendo a muchas personas, diciendo que esos no son dioses que están hechos por manos de hombres:
27 Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”
Y es muy peligroso, no solo de que nuestro oficio se desacredite en la opinión de los hombres, sino que el lugar sagrado de la gran diosa Diana ya no sea honrado, y aquella a quien toda Asia y el mundo adoran, será relegado desde su posición más alta.
28 When they heard this they were filled with anger, and cried out, saying, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
Al oír esto, se enojaron mucho, gritando y diciendo: ¡Grande es Diana de Éfeso!
29 The whole city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord into the theater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel.
Y la ciudad estaba llena de ruido y confusion, y todos ellos entraron corriendo en el teatro, tomando por la fuerza a Gayo y Aristarco, hombres de Macedonia que viajaban en compañía de Pablo.
30 When Paul wanted to enter in to the people, the disciples didn’t allow him.
Y cuando Pablo estaba por entrar al pueblo, los discípulos no se lo permitieron.
31 Certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent to him and begged him not to venture into the theater.
Y algunos de los gobernantes de Asia, siendo sus amigos, le enviaron, pidiéndole seriamente que no se pusiera en peligro al ir al teatro.
32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another, for the assembly was in confusion. Most of them didn’t know why they had come together.
Y algunos dijeron una cosa, y otra cosa: porque no había orden en la reunión; y la mayoría de ellos no tenían idea de por qué se habían reunido.
33 They brought Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. Alexander beckoned with his hand, and would have made a defense to the people.
Entonces sacaron a Alejandro de entre la gente, y los judíos lo presentaron. Y Alejandro, haciendo una señal con su mano, estaba a punto de hacer una declaración a la gente en respuesta:
34 But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice for a time of about two hours cried out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
Pero cuando vieron que él era judío, todos ellos con una sola voz siguieron clamando por cerca de dos horas, Grande es Diana de Efeso.
35 When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?
Y cuando el secretario en jefe hizo callar a la gente, dijo: Hombres de Efeso, ¿hay algún hombre sin conocimiento de que la ciudad de Efeso es el guardián del lugar santo de la gran Diana, que fue enviada desde Júpiter?
36 Seeing then that these things can’t be denied, you ought to be quiet and to do nothing rash.
Entonces, como estas cosas no pueden ser puestas en duda, sería mejor que te callaras y no hicieras nada imprudente.
37 For you have brought these men here, who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of your goddess.
Porque has tomado a estos hombres, que no están haciendo daño al lugar santo ni hablando en contra de nuestra diosa.
38 If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.
Si, entonces, Demetrio y los obreros que están con él protestan contra un hombre, la ley está abierta a ellos, y hay jueces; que reclamen ante las autoridades y que cada uno defienda su derecho.
39 But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.
Pero si se cuestiona cualquier otro asunto, deberá tratarse en una reunión legal.
40 For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning today’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
Porque, verdaderamente, corremos el peligro de que nos hagan responsables de los problemas de este día, ya que no hay motivo para ello: y no podemos dar ninguna explicación de lo que paso hoy.
41 When he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
Y cuando hubo dicho esto, envió la reunión fuera.
