Acts 17
1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue.
१नंतर ते अंफिपुली व अपुल्लोनिया या शहरांच्यामधून जाऊन थेस्सलनीकास शहरास गेले, तेथे यहूद्यांचे सभास्थान होते.
2 Paul, as was his custom, went in to them; and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
२तेथे पौलाने आपल्या परिपाठाप्रमाणे त्याच्याकडे जाऊन तीन शब्बाथ त्यांच्याबरोबर शास्त्रलेखावरून वादविवाद केला.
3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.”
३त्यांने शास्त्रलेखाचा उलगडा करून असे प्रतिपादन केले की, ख्रिस्ताने दुःख सोसावे व मरण पावलेल्यांमधून पुन्हा उठावे ह्याचे अगत्य होते आणि ज्या येशूची मी तुमच्यापुढे घोषणा करीत आहे तोच तो ख्रिस्त आहे.
4 Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas: of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and not a few of the chief women.
४तेव्हा त्याच्यापैकी काही जणांची खातरी होऊन पौल सीला ह्यांना येऊन मिळाले; आणि ग्रीक उपासक ह्यांचा मोठा समुदाय त्यांना मिळाला, त्यामध्ये प्रमुख स्त्रिया काही थोड्या थोडक्या नव्हत्या.
5 But the unpersuaded Jews took along some wicked men from the marketplace and gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar. Assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the people.
५परंतु यहूद्यांनी हेव्याने आपणाबरोबर बाजारचे काही गुंड लोक घेऊन व घोळका जमवून नगरांत घबराट निर्माण केली आणि यासोनाच्या घरावर हल्ला करून त्यांना लोंकाकडे बाहेर काढून आणण्याची खटपट करून पाहिली.
6 When they didn’t find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here also,
६परंतु त्यांचा शोध लागला नाही तेव्हा त्यांनी यासोनाला व कित्येक बंधूना नगराच्या अधिकाऱ्यांकडे ओढीत नेऊन आरडाओरड करीत म्हटले, ज्यांनी जगाची उलटापालट केली ते येथेही आले आहेत.
7 whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus!”
७त्यास यासोनाने आपल्या घरात घेतले आहे आणि हे सर्वजण कैसराच्या आज्ञेविरुद्ध वागतात, म्हणजे येशू म्हणून दुसराच कोणी राजा आहे असे म्हणतात.
8 The multitude and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things.
८हे ऐकवून त्यांनी लोकांस व शहराच्या अधिकाऱ्यास खवळून सोडले.
9 When they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.
९मग त्यांनी यासोनाचा व इतरांचा जामीन घेऊन त्यांना सोडून दिले.
10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea. When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue.
१०नंतर बंधुजनांनी पौल व सीला ह्यांना लागलेच रातोरात बिरुया शहरास पाठवले, ते तेथे पोहचल्यावर यहूदयांचे सभास्थानात गेले.
11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
११तेथील लोक थेस्सलनीकातल्या लोंकापेक्षा मोठया मनाचे होते; त्यांनी मोठ्या उत्सुकतेने वचनाचा स्वीकार केला आणि या गोष्टी अशाच आहेत की काय ह्याविषयी ते शास्त्रलेखात दररोज शोध करीत गेले.
12 Many of them therefore believed; also of the prominent Greek women, and not a few men.
१२त्यातील अनेकांनी व बऱ्याच प्रतिष्ठित ग्रीक स्त्रिया व पुरूष ह्यांनी विश्वास ठेवला.
13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul at Beroea also, they came there likewise, agitating the multitudes.
१३तरीही पौल देवाचे वचन बिरुयातही सांगत आहे हे थेस्सलनीकांतल्या यहूद्यांना समजले तेव्हा त्यांनी तिकडेही जाऊन लोकांस खवळून चेतविले.
14 Then the brothers immediately sent out Paul to go as far as to the sea, and Silas and Timothy still stayed there.
१४त्यावरून बंधुजनांनी पौलाला समुद्राकडे जाण्यास लागलेच पाठवले; आणि सीला व तीमथ्य हे तेथेच राहीले.
15 But those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens. Receiving a commandment to Silas and Timothy that they should come to him very quickly, they departed.
१५तेव्हा पौलाला पोहचविणाऱ्यांनी त्यास अथेनैपर्यंत नेले आणि सीला व तीमथ्य ह्यांनी आपणाकडे होईल तितके लवकर यावे अशी त्यांची आज्ञा घेउन ते निघाले.
16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw the city full of idols.
१६पौल अथेनैस त्यांची वाट पाहत असता, ते शहर मूर्तींनी भरलेले आहे असे पाहून त्याच्या मनाचा संताप झाला.
17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who met him.
१७ह्यामुळे तो सभास्थानात यहूदयांबरोबर व उपासक लोकांबरोबर आणि बाजारात जे त्यास आढळत त्यांच्याबरोबर दररोज वाद घालीत असे.
18 Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were conversing with him. Some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign deities,” because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.
१८तेव्हा एपिकूरपंथी व स्तोयिकपंथी ह्यांच्याबरोबर कित्येक तत्वज्ञांनी त्यास विरोध केला, कित्येक म्हणाले, “हा बडबड्या काय बोलतो?” दुसरे म्हणाले, “हा परक्या दैवतांची घोषणा करणारा दिसतो” कारण येशू व पुनरुत्थान ह्याविषयीच्या सुवार्तेची तो घोषणा करीत असे.
19 They took hold of him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is, which you are speaking about?
१९नंतर त्यांनी त्यास धरून अरियपग टेकडीवर नेऊन म्हटले, “तुम्ही दिलेली ही नवी शिकवण काय हे आम्हास समजून सांगाल काय? कारण तुम्ही आम्हास अपरिचित गोष्टी ऐकवत आहा; ह्याचा अर्थ काय हे समजून घ्यावे अशी आमची इच्छा आहे.
20 For you bring certain strange things to our ears. We want to know therefore what these things mean.”
२०कारण तुम्ही आम्हास अपरिचित गोष्टी ऐकवित आहा; त्याचा अर्थ काय हे समजून घ्यावे अशी आमची इच्छा आहे.”
21 Now all the Athenians and the strangers living there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.
२१काहीतरी नवलविशेष सांगितल्या ऐकल्याशिवाय सर्व अथेनैकर व तेथे राहणारे परके लोक ह्यांचा वेळ जात नसे.
22 Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus and said, “You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things.
२२तेव्हा पौल अरियपगाच्या मध्यभागी उभा राहून म्हणाला अहो अथेनैकरांनो, तुम्ही सर्वबाबतीत देवदेवतांना फार मान देणारे आहात असे मला दिसते.
23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ What therefore you worship in ignorance, I announce to you.
२३कारण मी फिरता फिरता तुमच्या उपासनेच्या वस्तू पाहतांना, अज्ञात देवाला ही अक्षरे लिहिलेली वेदी मला आढळली ज्याचे तुम्ही अज्ञानाने भजन करता ते मी तुम्हास जाहीर करतो.
24 The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands.
२४ज्या देवाने जग व त्यातले अवघे निर्माण केले तो स्वर्गाचा व पृथ्वीचा प्रभू असून हातांनी बांधलेल्या इमारतीत राहत नाही.
25 He isn’t served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath and all things.
२५आणि त्यास काही उणे आहे, म्हणून मनुष्यांच्या हातून त्याची सेवा घडावी असेही नाही; कारण जीवन प्राण व सर्वकाही तो स्वतः सर्वांना देतो.
26 He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons and the boundaries of their dwellings,
२६आणि त्याने एकापासुन मनुष्यांची सर्व राष्ट्रे निर्माण करून त्यांनी पृथ्वीच्या संबध पाठीवर रहावे असे केले आहे; आणि त्याचे नेमलेले समय व त्यांच्या वस्तीच्या सीमा त्याने ठरविल्या आहेत.
27 that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
२७यासाठी की, त्यांनी देवाचा शोध या आशेने करावा आणि त्यास कसे तरी प्राप्त करून घ्यावे, तो आपल्यापैकी कोणापासूनही दूर नाही.
28 ‘For in him we live, move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’
२८कारण आपण त्याच्याठायी जगतो, वागतो व आहोत तसेच तुमच्या कवीपैकीही कित्येकांनी म्हणले आहे की, आपण वास्तविक त्याचा वंश आहोत.
29 Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man.
२९तर मग आपण देवाचे वंशज असतांना मनुष्याच्या चातुर्याने व कल्पनेने कोरलेले सोने, रुपे किंवा पाषाण, ह्यांच्या आकृतीसारखा देव आहे असे आपल्याला वाटता कामा नये.
30 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent,
३०अज्ञानाच्या काळांकडे देवाने डोळेझाक केली, परंतु आता सर्वांनी सर्वत्र पश्चात्ताप करावा अशी तो मनुष्यांना आज्ञा करतो.
31 because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.”
३१त्याने असा एक दिवस नेमला आहे की, ज्या दिवशी तो आपण नेमलेला मनुष्य येशू याच्याद्वारे जगाचा न्यायनिवाडा नीतिमत्त्वाने करणार आहे; त्याने त्यास मरण पावलेल्यातून उठवून ह्याविषयीचे प्रमाण सर्वास पटवले आहे.
32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, “We want to hear you again concerning this.”
३२तेव्हा मृतांच्या पुनरुत्थानाविषयी ऐकून कित्येक थट्टा करू लागले, कित्येक म्हणाले, “ह्याविषयी आम्ही तुमचे पुन्हा आणखी ऐकू.”
33 Thus Paul went out from among them.
३३इतके झाल्यावर पौल त्यांच्यामधून निघून गेला.
34 But certain men joined with him and believed, including Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
३४तरी काही मनुष्यांनी त्यास चिटकून राहून विश्वास ठेवला; त्यामध्ये दिओनुस्य अरिय-पगकर, दामारी नावांची कोणी स्त्री व त्यांच्याबरोबर इतर कित्येक होते.
