Acts 16
1 He came to Derbe and Lystra; and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess who believed, but his father was a Greek.
૧પછી પાઉલ દેર્બે તથા લુસ્ત્રામાં આવ્યો, તિમોથી નામે એક શિષ્ય હતો; તે એક વિશ્વાસી યહૂદી સ્ત્રીનો દીકરો હતો, પણ તેનો પિતા ગ્રીક હતો.
2 The brothers who were at Lystra and Iconium gave a good testimony about him.
૨લુસ્ત્રા તથા ઈકોનિયામાંના ભાઈઓમાં તિમોથીની સાક્ષી સારી હતી.
3 Paul wanted to have him go out with him, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
૩તેને પાઉલ પોતાની સાથે લઈ જવાની ઇચ્છા રાખતો હતો, તેને લઈને તે પ્રાંતોમાંના યહૂદીઓને લીધે તેણે તેની સુન્નત કરાવી; કેમ કે સર્વ જાણતા હતા કે તેનો પિતા ગ્રીક હતો.
4 As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered the decrees to them to keep which had been ordained by the apostles and elders who were at Jerusalem.
૪જે જે શહેરમાં થઈને પાઉલ અને તિમોથી ગયા ત્યાંના લોકોને તેઓએ યરુશાલેમમાંના પ્રેરિતોએ તથા વડીલોએ કરેલા ઠરાવો પાળવા સારુ સોંપ્યાં.
5 So the assemblies were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.
૫એ રીતે વિશ્વાસી સમુદાય વિશ્વાસમાં બળવાન બનતો ગયો, અને રોજેરોજ તેઓની સંખ્યા વધતી ગઈ.
6 When they had gone through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.
૬તેઓને આસિયામાં સુવાર્તા પ્રગટ કરવાની પવિત્ર આત્માએ મના કરી તેથી તેઓ ફ્રૂગિયા તથા ગલાતિયાના પ્રદેશમાં ફર્યા.
7 When they had come opposite Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit didn’t allow them.
૭મુસિયાની સરહદ સુધી આવીને તેઓએ બિથુનિયામાં જવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો; પણ ઈસુના આત્માએ તેઓને જવા દીધાં નહિ;
8 Passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.
૮માટે તેઓ મુસિયાને બાજુએ મૂકીને ત્રોઆસ આવ્યા.
9 A vision appeared to Paul in the night. There was a man of Macedonia standing, begging him and saying, “Come over into Macedonia and help us.”
૯રાત્રે પાઉલને એવું દર્શન થયું કે મકદોનિયાના એક માણસે ઊભા રહીને તેને વિનંતી કરીને કહ્યું કે મકદોનિયામાં આવીને અમને સહાય કર.
10 When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go out to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the Good News to them.
૧૦પાઉલને દર્શન થયા પછી તેઓને સુવાર્તા પ્રગટ કરવા સારુ ઈશ્વરે અમને બોલાવ્યા છે, એવું અનુમાન કરીને અમે તરત મકદોનિયામાં જવાની તૈયારી કરી.
11 Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;
૧૧એ માટે અમે વહાણમાં બેસીને ત્રોઆસથી સીધા સામોથ્રાકી આવ્યા, બીજે દિવસે નિઆપોલીસ પહોંચ્યા;
12 and from there to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the foremost of the district, a Roman colony. We were staying some days in this city.
૧૨ત્યાંથી ફિલિપ્પી ગયા, જે મકદોનિયા પ્રાંતમાંનું મુખ્ય શહેર છે, અને તે રોમનોએ વસાવેલું છે; તે શહેરમાં અમે કેટલાક દિવસ રહ્યા.
13 On the Sabbath day we went outside of the city by a riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together.
૧૩શહેરની બહાર નદીના કિનારે પ્રાર્થનાસ્થાન હોવું જોઈએ એવું ધારીને વિશ્રામવારે અમે ત્યાં ગયા; ત્યાં જે સ્ત્રીઓ એકઠી થઈ હતી તેઓને અમે બેસીને બોધ કર્યો.
14 A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one who worshiped God, heard us. The Lord opened her heart to listen to the things which were spoken by Paul.
૧૪અને થૂઆતૈરા શહેરની, જાંબુડિયાં વસ્ત્ર વેચનારી લુદિયા નામની એક સ્ત્રી હતી જે ઈશ્વરને ભજનારી હતી, તેણે અમારું સાંભળ્યું, તેનું અંતઃકરણ પ્રભુએ એવું ઉઘાડ્યું કે, તેણે પાઉલના કહેલા વચનો મનમાં રાખ્યા.
15 When she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.
૧૫તેનું તથા તેના ઘરનાનું બાપ્તિસ્મા થયા પછી તેણે વિનંતી કરીને કહ્યું કે, જો તમે મને પ્રભુ પ્રત્યે વિશ્વાસુ ગણતા હો, તો મારા ઘરમાં આવીને રહો; તેણે અમને ઘણો આગ્રહ કર્યો.
16 As we were going to prayer, a certain girl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling.
૧૬અમે પ્રાર્થનાસ્થાને જતા હતા ત્યારે એમ થયું કે, એક જુવાન દાસી અમને મળી, કે જેને અગમસૂચક દુષ્ટાત્મા વળગ્યો હતો, તે ભવિષ્યકથન કરીને પોતાના માલિકોને ખૂબ કમાણી કરી આપતી હતી.
17 Following Paul and us, she cried out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us a way of salvation!”
૧૭તેણે પાઉલની તથા અમારી પાછળ આવીને બૂમ પાડીને કહ્યું કે, આ માણસો પરાત્પર ઈશ્વરના સેવકો છે, જેઓ તમને ઉદ્ધારનો માર્ગ પ્રગટ કરે છે.
18 She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” It came out that very hour.
૧૮તેણે ઘણાં દિવસો સુધી એમ કર્યા કર્યું, ત્યારે પાઉલે બહુ નારાજ થઈને પાછા ફરીને તે દુષ્ટાત્માને કહ્યું કે, ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્તને નામે હું તને આજ્ઞા કરું છું કે એનામાંથી નીકળ; અને તે જ ઘડીએ તે તેનામાંથી નીકળી ગયો.
19 But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.
૧૯પણ તેના માલિકોએ પોતાના લાભની આશા નષ્ટ થઈ છે, એ જોઈને પાઉલ તથા સિલાસને પકડ્યા, અને તેઓને ચૌટાનાં અધિકારીઓની પાસે ઘસડી લાવ્યા.
20 When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men, being Jews, are agitating our city
૨૦તેઓને અધિકારીઓની આગળ લાવીને કહ્યું કે, આ માણસો યહૂદી છતાં આપણા શહેરમાં બહુ ધમાલ મચાવે છે.
21 and advocate customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.”
૨૧અને આપણ રોમનોને જે રીતરિવાજો માનવા અથવા પાળવા ઉચિત નથી, તે તેઓ શીખવે છે.
22 The multitude rose up together against them and the magistrates tore their clothes from them, then commanded them to be beaten with rods.
૨૨ત્યારે સર્વ લોકો તેમની સામે ઊઠ્યાં, અને અધિકારીઓએ તેઓનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાડી નાખીને તેઓને ફટકા મારવાની આજ્ઞા આપી.
23 When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely.
૨૩અને અધિકારીઓએ ઘણાં ફટકા મારીને તેઓને પાઉલ અને સિલાસને જેલમાં પૂર્યા તથા જેલરને તેઓની ચોકસાઈ રાખવાની આજ્ઞા આપી.
24 Having received such a command, he threw them into the inner prison and secured their feet in the stocks.
૨૪અને અમલદારને એવી આજ્ઞા મળવાથી તેઓને અંદરનાં જેલખાનામાં પૂરવામાં આવ્યા, અને તેઓના પગ હેડમાં બાંધી દીધાં.
25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
૨૫ત્યાં મધરાતને સુમારે પાઉલ તથા સિલાસ પ્રાર્થના કરતા તથા ઈશ્વરનાં સ્ત્રોત્ર ગાતા હતા, બીજા કેદીઓ તે સાંભળતાં હતા;
26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened.
૨૬ત્યારે એકાએક એવો મોટો ધરતીકંપ થયો કે, જેલના પાયા હાલ્યા; અને બધા દરવાજા તરત ઊઘડી ગયા; અને સર્વના બંધનો છૂટી ગયા.
27 The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
૨૭જેલર ઊંઘમાંથી જાગી ઊઠ્યો, અને જેલના દરવાજા ખુલ્લાં જોઈને કેદીઓ નાસી ગયા હશે, એમ વિચારીને તે તરવાર ઉગામીને આત્મહત્યા કરવા જતો હતો.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Don’t harm yourself, for we are all here!”
૨૮પણ પાઉલે મોટેથી બૂમ પાડીને કહ્યું કે, અમે સહુ અહીં છીએ, માટે તું પોતાને કંઈ પણ ઈજા કરીશ નહિ.
29 He called for lights, sprang in, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas,
૨૯ત્યારે તે દીવો મંગાવીને અંદર કૂદી આવ્યો, અને ધ્રૂજતો ધ્રૂજતો પાઉલ તથા સિલાસને પગે પડ્યો.
30 brought them out, and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
૩૦તેઓને બહાર લાવીને તેણે કહ્યું કે, હે સાહેબો, ઉદ્ધાર પામવા સારુ મારે શું કરવું જોઈએ?
31 They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
૩૧ત્યારે તેઓએ કહ્યું કે, પ્રભુ ઈસુ પર વિશ્વાસ કર, એટલે તું તથા તારા ઘરના સર્વ ઉદ્ધાર પામશો.
32 They spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house.
૩૨ત્યારે તેઓએ જેલરને તથા જે તેનાં ઘરમાં હતાં તે સર્વને પ્રભુનાં વચનો કહી સંભળાવ્યાં.
33 He took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes, and was immediately baptized, he and all his household.
૩૩પછી રાતના તે જ સમયે તે જેલરે તેઓના સોળ ધોયા અને તરત તે તથા તેનાં ઘરનાં બધા માણસો બાપ્તિસ્મા પામ્યા.
34 He brought them up into his house and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly with all his household, having believed in God.
૩૪જેલરે તેઓને પોતાને ઘરે લાવીને તેઓની આગળ ભોજન પીરસ્યું, અને તેના ઘરનાં સર્વએ ઈશ્વર પર વિશ્વાસ કરીને ઘણો આનંદ કર્યો.
35 But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, “Let those men go.”
૩૫દિવસ ઊગતાં અધિકારીઓએ સુરક્ષા કર્મચારીઓને મોકલીને કહેવડાવ્યું કે, તે માણસોને છોડી દો.
36 The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore come out and go in peace.”
૩૬પછી જેલરે પાઉલને એ વાતની ખબર આપી કે, અધિકારીઓએ તમને છોડી દેવાનું કહેવડાવ્યું છે, માટે હવે તમે નીકળીને શાંતિએ ચાલ્યા જાઓ.
37 But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly without a trial, men who are Romans, and have cast us into prison! Do they now release us secretly? No, most certainly, but let them come themselves and bring us out!”
૩૭પણ પાઉલે તેઓને કહ્યું કે, અમને ગુનેગાર ઠરાવ્યાં વગર તેઓએ અમો રોમનોને જાહેર રીતે માર મારીને જેલમાં નાખ્યા છે, અને હવે શું તેઓ અમને છાની રીતે બહાર કાઢી મૂકે છે? ના, એમ તો નહિ, પણ તેઓ પોતે આવીને અમને બહાર કાઢે.
38 The sergeants reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,
૩૮ત્યારે સુરક્ષા કર્મચારીઓએ અધિકારીઓને એ વાતની ખબર આપી. ત્યારે તેઓ રોમન છે, એ સાંભળીને તેઓ ગભરાઈ ગયા.
39 and they came and begged them. When they had brought them out, they asked them to depart from the city.
૩૯પછી અધિકારીઓએ આવીને તેઓને કાલાવાલા કર્યા, અને તેઓને બહાર લાવીને શહેરમાંથી નીકળી જવાને વિનંતી કરી.
40 They went out of the prison and entered into Lydia’s house. When they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them, then departed.
૪૦પછી તેઓ જેલમાંથી નીકળીને લુદિયાને ત્યાં આવ્યા; અને ભાઈઓને મળીને તેઓને દિલાસો આપ્યો, પછી ત્યાંથી વિદાય થયા.
