Acts 13
1 Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
Or, il y avait à Antioche, dans l'église qui s'y trouvait, des prophètes et des docteurs, à savoir Barnabas et Siméon appelé Niger, et Lucius le Cyrénéen, et Manahen compagnon d'enfance d'Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.
2 As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.”
Et, pendant qu'ils étaient occupés au culte du Seigneur et qu'ils jeûnaient, l'esprit saint dit: « Mettez immédiatement à part pour moi Barnabas et Saul, en vue de l'œuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés. »
3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié et leur avoir imposé les mains, ils les congédièrent.
4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.
Eux donc, ayant été députés par le saint esprit, descendirent à Séleucie, et de là naviguèrent vers l'île de Chypre;
5 When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their attendant.
arrivés à Salamine, ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs; or ils avaient aussi Jean comme auxiliaire.
6 When they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus,
Ayant ensuite traversé toute l'île jusques à Paphos, ils rencontrèrent un certain personnage, magicien et faux prophète, Juif, nommé Barjésus,
7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.
lequel vivait auprès du proconsul Sergius Paulus, qui était un homme intelligent. Celui-ci, ayant fait venir Barnabas et Saul, témoigna le désir d'entendre la parole de Dieu.
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
Mais Élymas, (le magicien, car c'est ainsi que se traduit son nom) s'opposait à eux, en cherchant à détourner le proconsul de la foi.
9 But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him
Mais Saul, qui est aussi appelé Paul, rempli d'esprit saint, ayant fixé sur lui ses regards, dit:
10 and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
« O toi, qui es plein de toute espèce de ruse et de malice, fils du diable, ennemi de toute justice, ne cesseras-tu point de pervertir les voies droites du Seigneur?
11 Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
Et maintenant, voici, la main du Seigneur est sur toi, et tu seras aveugle et tu ne verras point le soleil pour un certain temps. » Aussitôt il fut enveloppé d'un brouillard et de ténèbres, et, allant ici et là, il cherchait des guides.
12 Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
Alors le proconsul, ayant vu ce qui s'était passé, crut, et il était tout rempli de stupéfaction de la doctrine du seigneur.
13 Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.
Après s'être embarqués à Paphos, Paul et ses compagnons vinrent à Perge de Pamphylie. Mais Jean, s'étant séparé d'eux, retourna à Jérusalem.
14 But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.
Pour eux, ayant, depuis Perge, poursuivi leur route, ils vinrent à Antioche de Pisidie, et, étant entrés dans la synagogue le jour du sabbat, ils s'assirent.
15 After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.”
Après la lecture de la loi et des prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue leur firent faire ce message: « Frères, si vous avez quelque parole d'exhortation à adresser au peuple, parlez. »
16 Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.
Et Paul, s'étant levé et ayant fait signe de la main, dit: « Israélites, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez:
17 The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.
Le Dieu du peuple d'Israël S'est choisi nos pères, et Il a relevé le peuple pendant qu'il vivait en étranger dans le pays d'Egypte, et Il l'en a fait sortir à bras élevé,
18 For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.
et, pendant environ quarante ans, Il s'est accommodé à eux dans le désert;
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years.
après avoir anéanti sept nations dans le pays de Chanaan, Il les a mis en possession de leur territoire,
20 After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.
pendant environ quatre cent cinquante ans; et, après cela, Il leur donna des juges jusques à Samuel le prophète.
21 Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
Ce fut alors qu'ils demandèrent un roi, et Dieu leur donna Saül, fil de Kis, membre de la tribu de Benjamin, pendant quarante ans;
22 When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’
puis, l'ayant détrôné, Il leur suscita David pour roi, auquel Il a rendu témoignage en disant: « J'ai trouvé David fils de Jessé selon Mon cœur, il fera toute Ma volonté. »
23 From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation to Israel according to his promise,
C'est de la postérité de celui-ci que Dieu, selon Sa promesse, a fait sortir Jésus pour être le sauveur d'Israël,
24 before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.
après que Jean eut prêché, avant son avènement, un baptême de repentance à tout le peuple d'Israël.
25 As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’
Et, comme Jean achevait sa course, il disait: « Ce que vous croyez que je suis, je ne le suis pas; mais, voici, il en vient un après moi, des pieds duquel je ne suis pas digne de délier la chaussure. »
26 “Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.
Frères, fils de la race d'Abraham, vous qui parmi eux craignez Dieu, c'est à nous que la parole de ce salut a été envoyée;
27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.
car ceux qui habitent Jérusalem et leurs chefs l'ayant méconnu, ils ont aussi, en le condamnant, accompli les déclarations des prophètes qui se lisent chaque sabbat,
28 Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.
et, sans avoir trouvé aucun motif de mort, ils ont prié Pilate de le faire périr;
29 When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.
puis, quand ils eurent accompli tout ce qui a été écrit de lui, ils le placèrent, après l'avoir ôté de la croix, dans un sépulcre;
30 But God raised him from the dead,
mais Dieu l'a ressuscité des morts,
31 and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.
et il est apparu pendant plusieurs jours à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée à Jérusalem, lesquels sont ses témoins auprès du peuple.
32 We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,
Et nous vous annonçons comme une bonne nouvelle, que la promesse faite à nos pères, Dieu l'a réalisée pour nos enfants, en ressuscitant Jésus,
33 that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your father.’
comme il est aussi écrit dans le second Psaume: « Tu es Mon fils, c'est Moi qui t'ai engendré aujourd'hui. »
34 “Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’
Mais, qu'il l'ait ressuscité des morts sans qu'il doive retomber encore dans la corruption, c'est ce qu'il dit en ces termes: « Je vous donnerai les choses saintes de David, qui sont certaines; »
35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’
c'est pourquoi dans un autre encore il dit: « Tu ne permettras pas que Ton saint voie la corruption. »
36 For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.
En effet, quant à David, après avoir, par la volonté de Dieu, servi sa propre génération, il est mort et a été réuni à ses pères, et il a vu la corruption,
37 But he whom God raised up saw no decay.
tandis que celui que Dieu a ressuscité n'a pas vu la corruption.
38 Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins;
Qu'il vous soit donc notoire, frères, que c'est à cause de cela que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée,
39 and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
et que c'est en lui que tout croyant est justifié de tout ce dont vous ne pouviez être justifiés sous la loi de Moïse.
40 Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:
Prenez donc garde que ne survienne pas ce qui a été dit dans les prophètes:
41 ‘Behold, you scoffers! Wonder and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’”
« Voyez, ô contempteurs, et soyez étonnés et disparaissez, parce que, de votre temps, s'opère une œuvre, une œuvre à laquelle vous ne croiriez certainement pas, si quelqu'un vous la racontait. »
42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
Or, comme ils sortaient, on leur demanda de répéter le sabbat suivant les mêmes choses;
43 Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.
puis, quand la congrégation se fut dispersée, plusieurs Juifs et prosélytes pieux suivirent Paul et Barnabas, qui, s'adressant à eux, les persuadaient de s'attacher à la grâce de Dieu.
44 The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.
Et le sabbat suivant presque toute la ville se réunit pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.
Mais les Juifs, ayant vu cette foule, furent remplis de jalousie, et ils contredisaient les paroles de Paul en l'injuriant.
46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. (aiōnios g166)
Paul et Barnabas, tout remplis d'assurance, dirent: « C'est à vous qu'il fallait d'abord annoncer la parole de Dieu; puisque vous la repoussez, et que vous ne vous jugez pas dignes de la vie éternelle, voici, nous nous tournons vers les Gentils. (aiōnios g166)
47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”
Car, voici ce que nous a prescrit le Seigneur: « Je t'ai établi pour être la lumière des Gentils, afin que tu serves à répandre le salut jusques à l'extrémité de la terre. »
48 As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed. (aiōnios g166)
En entendant cela les Gentils étaient dans la joie, et ils glorifiaient la parole de Dieu, et tous ceux qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle crurent. (aiōnios g166)
49 The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region.
Cependant la parole du seigneur se répandait dans tout le pays;
50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders.
mais les Juifs excitèrent les grandes dames dévotes et les principaux de la ville, et provoquèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabas, et ils les chassèrent de leur territoire.
51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.
Mais ceux-ci, ayant secoué contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds, se rendirent à Icone,
52 The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
et les disciples étaient remplis de joie et d'esprit saint.
