Acts 1
1 The first book I wrote, Theophilus, concerned all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,
テオフィロス様，わたしは最初の書物で，イエスが行ないかつ教え始めたすべての事柄について，
2 until the day in which he was received up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
自分が選んだ使徒たちに聖霊によって命令を与えたのち，迎え上げられた日までのことを書き記しました。
3 To these he also showed himself alive after he suffered, by many proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking about God’s Kingdom.
彼はまた，四十日にわたって彼らに現われて，神の王国について語り，自分が苦しみを受けたのちに生きていることを，多くの証拠によってそれらの者たちに示しました。
4 Being assembled together with them, he commanded them, “Don’t depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me.
彼らと共に集まっていた時，彼らにこう命じました。「エルサレムから離れることなく，あなた方がわたしから聞いた，父が約束されたものを待っていなさい。
5 For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
ヨハネは確かに水でバプテスマを施したが，あなた方は今から幾日もたたないうちに，聖霊によってバプテスマを施されることになるからだ」 。
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you now restoring the kingdom to Israel?”
それで彼らは，集まり合ったとき，彼に尋ねた，「主よ，あなたは今こそイスラエルに王国を復興されるのですか」。
7 He said to them, “It isn’t for you to know times or seasons which the Father has set within his own authority.
彼は彼らに言った，「父がご自分の権威によって定められた時や時節は，あなた方の知るところではない。
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”
だが，聖霊があなた方の上に臨むとき，あなた方は力を受けるだろう。あなた方はエルサレム，ユダヤとサマリアの全土，そして地の最も遠い所に至るまで，わたしの証人となるだろう」 。
9 When he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.
これらのことを言ってから，彼らが見つめている間に引き上げられ，雲に迎えられて見えなくなった。
10 While they were looking steadfastly into the sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing,
彼が上って行く間，彼らは天をじっと見つめていたが，見よ，白い衣を着た二人の人が彼らのそばに立って，
11 who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”
こう言った。「ガリラヤの人たちよ，なぜ天を見つめて立っているのか。あなた方から迎え上げられたこのイエスは，天に上って行くのをあなた方が見たのと同じ仕方で再び来られるだろう」。
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.
それから彼らは，オリブトと呼ばれる山からエルサレムに帰った。この山はエルサレムに近く，安息日の道のりのところにある。
13 When they had come in, they went up into the upper room where they were staying, that is Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.
彼らは入って来ると，泊まっていた階上の部屋に上がった。それは，ペトロ，ヨハネ，ヤコブ，アンデレ，フィリポ，トマス，バルトロマイ，マタイ，アルファイオスの子ヤコブ，熱心党のシモン，そしてヤコブの子ユダであった。
14 All these with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
これらの者たちはみな，女たちやイエスの母マリア，およびイエスの兄弟たちと共に，心を合わせて，祈りと嘆願のうちにひたすらとどまっていた。
15 In these days, Peter stood up in the middle of the disciples (and the number of names was about one hundred twenty), and said,
そのころ，ペトロが弟子たちの真ん中に立って（その群れの人々はおよそ百二十人ほどであった），こう言った。
16 “Brothers, it was necessary that this Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to those who took Jesus.
「兄弟たち，イエスを捕らえた者たちを手引きしたユダについては，聖霊がダビデの口によって前もって語られたこの聖句が果たされることが必要でした。
17 For he was counted with us, and received his portion in this ministry.
彼はわたしたちと共に数えられ，この奉仕の務めを割り当てられていたからです。
18 Now this man obtained a field with the reward for his wickedness; and falling headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines gushed out.
ところで，この人は不正に対する報酬で畑を手に入れましたが，まっさかさまに落ちて，その腹は張り裂け，腸はみな飛び出てしまいました。
19 It became known to everyone who lived in Jerusalem that in their language that field was called ‘Akeldama,’ that is, ‘The field of blood.’
このことはエルサレムに住むすべての人に知れ渡り，その畑は彼らの言語で『アケルダマ』，つまり『血の畑』と呼ばれるようになりました。
20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his habitation be made desolate. Let no one dwell in it;’ and, ‘Let another take his office.’
詩編の書の中にこう書いてあるのです。 『彼の住まいは荒れ果てるように。そこに住む者はいなくなるように』。 また， 『彼の職はほかの者が引き受けるように』。
21 “Of the men therefore who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
ですから，主イエスがわたしたちの間を行き来された全期間中，
22 beginning from the baptism of John to the day that he was received up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”
ヨハネのバプテスマから始めて，わたしたちから迎え上げられた日に至るまで，わたしたちに伴っていた人々のうち，だれか一人が，わたしたちと共に主の復活の証人にならなければなりません」。
23 They put forward two: Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias.
彼らは，バルサバスと呼ばれ，またの名をユストゥスというヨセフと，マッティアスの二人を推薦した。
24 They prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen
祈って言った，「すべての人の心をご存じである主よ，あなたがこの二人の中から選ばれた一人をお示しください。
25 to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.”
ユダが自分の場所に行くために離れてしまった，この奉仕の務めと使徒職に加わるためです」。
26 They drew lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was counted with the eleven apostles.
彼らが二人のためにくじを引くと，くじはマッティアスに当たった。そこで，彼は十一人の使徒たちと共に数えられた。
