2 Samuel 24
1 Again Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, “Go, count Israel and Judah.”
੧ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਭੜਕਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਭਾਰਿਆ, ਕਿ ਜਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰ।
2 The king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, “Now go back and forth through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and count the people, that I may know the sum of the people.”
੨ਇਸ ਲਈ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੋਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਦਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬਏਰਸ਼ਬਾ ਤੱਕ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਣ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਪਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
3 Joab said to the king, “Now may Yahweh your God add to the people, however many they may be, one hundred times; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?”
੩ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਪਰਜਾ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਵੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੌ ਗੁਣਾ ਵਧਾਵੇ, ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਵੇਖਣ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ?
4 Notwithstanding, the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the army. Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to count the people of Israel.
੪ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਯੋਆਬ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਬਲ ਹੋਈ। ਤਦ ਯੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੇ ਅੱਗਿਓਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਏ।
5 They passed over the Jordan and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and to Jazer;
੫ਉਹ ਯਰਦਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਰੋਏਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਗਾਦ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਬੰਨੇ ਯਾਜ਼ੇਰ ਵੱਲ ਹੈ, ਤੰਬੂ ਲਾਏ ।
6 then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim Hodshi; and they came to Dan Jaan and around to Sidon,
੬ਉੱਥੋਂ ਗਿਲਆਦ ਅਤੇ ਤਹਤੀਮ ਹਾਦਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਏ ਦਾਨ ਯਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਘੁੰਮ ਕੇ ਸੀਦੋਨ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ।
7 and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beersheba.
੭ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਸੂਰ ਦੇ ਗੜ੍ਹ ਤੱਕ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੱਵੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਬਏਰਸ਼ਬਾ ਤੱਕ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਏ।
8 So when they had gone back and forth through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
੮ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਓਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਘੁੰਮ ਕੇ ਨੌ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਵੀਹ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਆਏ।
9 Joab gave up the sum of the counting of the people to the king; and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
੯ਅਤੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਅੱਠ ਲੱਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ ਲੱਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਨ।
10 David’s heart struck him after he had counted the people. David said to Yahweh, “I have sinned greatly in that which I have done. But now, Yahweh, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.”
੧੦ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਾਪ ਹੈ! ਹੁਣ ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਯਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਦੀ ਬਦੀ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਮੂਰਖਤਾਈ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
11 When David rose up in the morning, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,
੧੧ਸੋ ਜਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਸਵੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਗਾਦ ਨਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਅਗੰਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੀ, ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ।
12 “Go and speak to David, ‘Yahweh says, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”
੧੨ਜਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਇਹ ਫ਼ਰਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਬਿਪਤਾਵਾਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਸੋ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਚੁਣ ਲੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾਵਾਂ।
13 So Gad came to David, and told him, saying, “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.”
੧੩ਸੋ ਗਾਦ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੱਤਾਂ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਾਲ ਪਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਗਿਓਂ ਭੱਜੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਜਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਮਹਾਂ ਮਰੀ ਪਵੇ? ਹੁਣ ਸਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਠਹਿਰਾ ਲੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇਵਾਂ।
14 David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let us fall now into Yahweh’s hand, for his mercies are great. Let me not fall into man’s hand.”
੧੪ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਗਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ! ਹੁਣ ਅਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਈਏ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਯਾ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਪਈਏ।
15 So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the appointed time; and seventy thousand men died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba.
੧੫ਸੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਰੀ ਘੱਲੀ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਉਸ ਸਵੇਰ ਤੋਂ ਠਹਿਰਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਈ ਰਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬਏਰਸ਼ਬਾ ਤੱਕ ਪਰਜਾ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੱਤਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਲੋਕ ਮਰ ਗਏ।
16 When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” Yahweh’s angel was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
੧੬ਜਦ ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਉਸ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਛਤਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਆਖਿਆ, ਬਸ, ਬਹੁਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਖਿੱਚ ਲੈ। ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਯਬੂਸੀ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਿੜ ਕੋਲ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ।
17 David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.”
੧੭ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਵੇਖ, ਪਾਪ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਵੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਹੋਈ ਪਰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਦੋਸ਼? ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਚਲਾ!
18 Gad came that day to David and said to him, “Go up, build an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”
੧੮ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਗਾਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਯਬੂਸੀ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਿੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਬਣਾ।
19 David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Yahweh commanded.
੧੯ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਗਾਦ ਦੇ ਆਖਣ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਗਿਆ।
20 Araunah looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. Then Araunah went out and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.
੨੦ਅਤੇ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੱਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਭਾਰ ਝੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
21 Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” David said, “To buy your threshing floor, to build an altar to Yahweh, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”
੨੧ਅਤੇ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੋਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਇਆ? ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਹ ਪਿੜ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੁੱਲ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਬਣਾਵਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮਰੀ ਹਟ ਜਾਏ।
22 Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the cattle for the burnt offering, and the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood.
੨੨ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਰਾਜਾ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਸੋ ਲਵੇ; ਹੋਮ ਦੀ ਭੇਟ ਲਈ ਬਲ਼ਦ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਗਾਹ ਪਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਵਲੇਵਾ ਬਲ਼ਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਲੇਵੇ ਸਣੇ ਲੱਕੜ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
23 All this, O king, does Araunah give to the king.” Araunah said to the king, “May Yahweh your God accept you.”
੨੩ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਫਿਰ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਵੇ।
24 The king said to Araunah, “No, but I will most certainly buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to Yahweh my God which cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
੨੪ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ ਅਰਵਨਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਿੜ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਭੇਟ ਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ! ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਪਿੜ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਲ਼ਦ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਸ਼ਕੇਲ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ।
25 David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was removed from Israel.
੨੫ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਲੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੁੱਖ-ਸਾਂਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਭੇਟਾਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈਆਂ। ਸੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇਨਤੀਆਂ ਸੁਣ ਲਈਆਂ, ਤਦ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮਰੀ ਹਟ ਗਈ।
