2 Samuel 11

1 At the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

Aconteció en la primavera del año, en el tiempo cuando los reyes suelen salir en campaña, que David envió a Joab, y con él a sus esclavos y a todo Israel, los cuales destruyeron a los amonitas y sitiaron a Rabá. Pero David permaneció en Jerusalén.

2 At evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at.

Sucedió que a la hora del atardecer David se levantó de su lecho y se paseaba por la azotea de la casa real. Desde la azotea vio a una mujer que se bañaba, y ella era muy hermosa.

3 David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, Uriah the Hittite’s wife?”

David mandó a preguntar por aquella mujer, y uno dijo: ¿No es ésta Betsabé, hija de Eliam, esposa de Urías el heteo?

4 David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned to her house.

David envió mensajeros y la tomó. Cuando ella fue, él se unió a ella. Después que ella se purificó de su impureza, regresó a su casa.

5 The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”

La mujer concibió y mandó a informar a David: Estoy embarazada.

6 David sent to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” Joab sent Uriah to David.

Entonces David mandó decir a Joab: Envíame a Urías heteo. Y Joab envió a Urías a David.

7 When Uriah had come to him, David asked him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.

Cuando Urías llegó a él, David le preguntó por la salud de Joab, del pueblo y el estado de la guerra.

8 David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.

Después dijo David a Urías: Baja a tu casa y lava tus pies. Y al salir Urías de la casa real, le fue enviado un presente del rey.

9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and didn’t go down to his house.

Pero Urías durmió en la entrada de la casa del rey con todos los esclavos de su ʼadón, y no bajó a su casa.

10 When they had told David, saying, “Uriah didn’t go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”

Informaron de esto a David: Urías no bajó a su casa. David preguntó a Urías: ¿No viniste de un viaje? ¿Por qué no bajas a tu casa?

11 Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”

Urías respondió a David: El Arca, Israel y Judá permanecen en tiendas, y mi ʼadón Joab y los esclavos de mi ʼadón acampan a campo abierto. ¿Y yo debo ir a mi casa a comer, a beber y a dormir con mi esposa? ¡Por tu vida y la vida de tu alma, yo no haré tal cosa!

12 David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next day.

David dijo a Urías: Quédate aquí hoy, y mañana te dejaré ir. Así pues, Urías se quedó en Jerusalén aquel día y el siguiente.

13 When David had called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. At evening, he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but didn’t go down to his house.

David lo invitó, y comió y bebió con él hasta embriagarlo. Pero al llegar la noche fue a acostarse en su cama con los esclavos de su ʼadón, y no bajó a su casa.

14 In the morning, David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

Cuando llegó la mañana, David escribió una carta a Joab la cual envió por medio de Urías.

15 He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck and die.”

En la carta dijo: Coloquen a Urías al frente, en lo más recio de la batalla, y retírense de él, para que sea herido y muera.

16 When Joab kept watch on the city, he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.

Así que cuando Joab asediaba la ciudad, asignó a Urías el lugar donde sabía que estaban los hombres más valientes.

17 The men of the city went out and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of David’s servants; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

Los hombres de la ciudad salieron y lucharon contra Joab. Cayeron algunos de los esclavos de David, y Urías heteo también murió.

18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

Joab comunicó a David todos los sucesos de la guerra,

19 and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,

y le encomendó al mensajero: Cuando termines de narrar al rey todos los sucesos de la guerra,

20 it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Didn’t you know that they would shoot from the wall?

si sucede que sube la ira del rey y te pregunta: ¿Por qué se acercaron tanto a la ciudad para luchar? ¿No saben lo que lanzan desde el muro?

21 Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Didn’t a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?’ then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.’”

¿Quién hirió a Abimelec, hijo de Jerobaal? ¿No fue una mujer que lanzó desde el muro un pedazo de rueda de molino, y murió en Tebes? ¿Por qué se acercaron tanto al muro? Entonces tú responderás: También tu esclavo Urías heteo murió.

22 So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.

El mensajero fue y al llegar a David, le narró todo aquello a lo cual Joab lo envió.

23 The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field; and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.

Y el mensajero dijo a David: Prevalecieron contra nosotros los hombres que salieron al campo, pero los hicimos retroceder hasta la entrada de la puerta.

24 The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”

Entonces los arqueros tiraron contra tus esclavos desde arriba del muro y murieron algunos de los esclavos del rey. También murió tu esclavo Urías heteo.

25 Then David said to the messenger, “Tell Joab, ‘Don’t let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”

David dijo al mensajero: Dirás esto a Joab: Que esto no te desagrade, porque la espada devora tanto a uno como a otro. Refuerza tu ataque contra la ciudad y destrúyela. Y tú, aliéntalo.

26 When Uriah’s wife heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

Al oír la esposa de Urías que su esposo murió, hizo duelo por su esposo.

27 When the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Yahweh.

Cuando pasó el luto, David mandó traerla a su casa. Ella fue su esposa y le dio un hijo. Pero lo que David hizo fue desagradable delante de Yavé.
