2 Corinthians 5
1 For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. (aiōnios g166)
Nous savons, en effet, que si notre demeure terrestre, — qui n'est qu'une tente! — est détruite, nous avons dans le ciel un édifice qui est l'oeuvre de Dieu, une demeure éternelle qui n'est pas faite de main d'homme. (aiōnios g166)
2 For most certainly in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,
Aussi gémissons-nous dans cette tente, ayant l'ardent désir d'être revêtus de notre habitation céleste,
3 if indeed being clothed, we will not be found naked.
si toutefois nous sommes trouvés vêtus, et non pas nus.
4 For indeed we who are in this tent do groan, being burdened, not that we desire to be unclothed, but that we desire to be clothed, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
Car nous qui sommes dans cette tente, nous gémissons comme sous un fardeau, parce que nous souhaitons, non d'être dépouillés, mais d'être revêtus, afin que ce qu'il y a de mortel en nous soit absorbé par la vie.
5 Now he who made us for this very thing is God, who also gave to us the down payment of the Spirit.
Et celui qui nous a formés pour cela même, c'est Dieu, qui nous a donné pour arrhes son Esprit.
6 Therefore we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord;
Nous sommes donc toujours pleins de confiance, et nous savons que, pendant que nous demeurons dans ce corps, nous habitons loin du Seigneur
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.
— car c'est par la foi que nous marchons, et non par la vue. —
8 We are courageous, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
Nous sommes, dis-je, pleins de confiance, et nous aimons mieux quitter ce corps, pour habiter avec le Seigneur.
9 Therefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well pleasing to him.
C'est pourquoi aussi nous faisons tous nos efforts pour lui être agréables, soit que nous demeurions dans ce corps, soit que nous en sortions.
10 For we must all be revealed before the judgment seat of Christ that each one may receive the things in the body according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Car il nous faut tous comparaître, devant le tribunal du Christ, afin que chacun reçoive selon le bien ou le mal qu'il aura fait, pendant qu'il était dans son corps.
11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are revealed to God, and I hope that we are revealed also in your consciences.
Connaissant donc la crainte qu'on doit avoir du Seigneur, nous cherchons à en convaincre les hommes; et Dieu nous connaît, et j'espère que dans vos consciences vous nous connaissez aussi.
12 For we are not commending ourselves to you again, but speak as giving you occasion of boasting on our behalf, that you may have something to answer those who boast in appearance and not in heart.
Nous ne venons pas nous faire encore valoir auprès de vous, mais nous voulons vous donner l'occasion de vous glorifier à notre sujet, pour que vous puissiez répondre à ceux qui tirent gloire de ce qui n'est qu'apparence, et non de ce qui est dans le coeur.
13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God. Or if we are of sober mind, it is for you.
En effet, soit que nous soyons hors de sens, c'est pour Dieu; soit que nous soyons de sens rassis, c'est pour vous.
14 For the love of Christ compels us; because we judge thus: that one died for all, therefore all died.
Car l'amour du Christ nous possède, et nous estimons que, si un seul est mort pour tous, tous donc sont morts,
15 He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again.
et qu'il est mort pour tous, afin que ceux qui vivent ne vivent plus pour eux-mêmes, mais pour celui qui est mort et ressuscité pour eux.
16 Therefore we know no one according to the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.
Aussi, désormais, nous ne connaissons plus personne selon la chair; et, si nous avons connu, selon la chair, le Christ lui-même, nous ne le connaissons plus de cette manière.
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.
Si donc quelqu'un est en Christ, il est une nouvelle créature: les choses vieilles sont passées; voici que toutes choses sont devenues nouvelles.
18 But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation;
Et tout cela vient de Dieu, qui nous a réconciliés avec lui par Christ et qui nous a confié le ministère de la réconciliation.
19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Car Dieu était en Christ, réconciliant le monde avec lui-même, en n'imputant point aux hommes leurs offenses; et il a mis en nous la parole de la réconciliation.
20 We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
Nous faisons donc fonction d'ambassadeurs pour Christ, comme si Dieu exhortait par nous. Nous vous en supplions, au nom du Christ: Soyez réconciliés avec Dieu.
21 For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Celui qui n'a point connu le péché. Dieu l'a traité pour nous, comme le péché même, afin que nous devinssions en lui justice de Dieu.
