1 Timothy 6

1 Let as many as are bondservants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine not be blasphemed.

Ceux qui portent le joug de la servitude doivent considérer leurs maîtres comme dignes de tout respect afin qu'on ne calomnie ni le nom de Dieu, ni notre enseignement.

2 Those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather let them serve them, because those who partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. Teach and exhort these things.

Ceux qui ont des maîtres croyants ne doivent pas les mépriser sous prétexte qu'ils sont leurs frères, mais les servir d'autant mieux que ceux qui reçoivent leurs bons soins sont des croyants, sont des bien-aimés. Tels seront tes enseignements et tes exhortations.

3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and doesn’t consent to sound words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness,

Si quelqu'un enseigne d'une autre manière et s'écarte des saines doctrines de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ et de l'enseignement qui favorise la piété,

4 he is conceited, knowing nothing, but obsessed with arguments, disputes, and word battles, from which come envy, strife, insulting, evil suspicions,

c'est un orgueilleux, c'est un ignorant, il a la maladie des discussions oiseuses et des disputes de mots, d'où naissent les jalousies, les querelles, les calomnies, les soupçons injustes,

5 constant friction of people of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. Withdraw yourself from such.

les interminables discussions de gens à l'esprit faux, qui sont toujours à côté de la vérité, et considèrent la piété comme une affaire d'argent.

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Oui, sans doute, la piété est une affaire et une excellente affaire pour celui qui est content de son sort.

7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out.

Car nous n'avons rien apporté dans le monde, et nous n'en pouvons rien emporter.

8 But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.

Sachons nous contenter d'avoir de quoi nous nourrir et nous couvrir.

9 But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction.

Ceux qui veulent devenir riches se laissent tenter, tombent dans le piège et ont une quantité de désirs déraisonnables et pernicieux qui entraînent les hommes à leur ruine et à leur perte.

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Car la racine de tous les maux c'est l'amour de l'argent; quelques-uns s'y sont abandonnés, se sont détournés de la foi et se sont créé à eux-mêmes de cruels remords.

11 But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.

Pour toi, homme de Dieu, fuis ces choses, et recherche la justice, la piété, la foi, l'amour, la patience, la douceur.

12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses. (aiōnios g166)

Combats le bon combat de la foi, empare-toi de la vie éternelle en vue de laquelle tu as reçu ta vocation, et tu as fait ta belle déclaration devant de nombreux témoins. (aiōnios g166)

13 I command you before God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who before Pontius Pilate testified the good confession,

Je te recommande, en présence du Dieu qui donne la vie à toutes choses et de Jésus-Christ, qui a rendu témoignage devant Ponce-Pilate dans une si belle déclaration,

14 that you keep the commandment without spot, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 which at the right time he will show, who is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

que nous montrera, au temps marqué, le bienheureux et unique Souverain, le Roi des rois, le Seigneur des seigneurs,

16 He alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen. (aiōnios g166)

17 Charge those who are rich in this present age that they not be arrogant, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy; (aiōn g165)

Aux riches de ce monde tu recommanderas de ne pas être orgueilleux, de ne pas compter sur des richesses instables, mais sur Dieu qui nous fournit largement tout ce dont nous avons besoin. (aiōn g165)

18 that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to share;

Recommande-leur de faire du bien, de s'enrichir de bonnes oeuvres, d'être généreux, charitables,

19 laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold of eternal life.

économisant ainsi un beau fonds pour l'avenir afin d'acquérir la véritable vie.

20 Timothy, guard that which is committed to you, turning away from the empty chatter and oppositions of what is falsely called knowledge,

Timothée, garde bien ton dépôt, évite les discussions inutiles et profanes, les objections de ce qu'on appelle à tort science.

21 which some profess, and thus have wandered from the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.

Certaines gens, en affectant de s'y adonner, se sont éloignés de la foi.
