1 Thessalonians 5
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.
περι δε των χρονων και των καιρων αδελφοι ου χρειαν εχετε υμιν γραφεσθαι
2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
αυτοι γαρ ακριβωσ οιδατε οτι η ημερα κυριου ωσ κλεπτησ εν νυκτι ουτωσ ερχεται
3 For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman. Then they will in no way escape.
οταν γαρ λεγωσιν ειρηνη και ασφαλεια τοτε αιφνιδιοσ αυτοισ εφισταται ολεθροσ ωσπερ η ωδιν τη εν γαστρι εχουση και ου μη εκφυγωσιν
4 But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
υμεισ δε αδελφοι ουκ εστε εν σκοτει ινα η ημερα υμασ ωσ κλεπτησ καταλαβη
5 You are all children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,
παντεσ υμεισ υιοι φωτοσ εστε και υιοι ημερασ ουκ εσμεν νυκτοσ ουδε σκοτουσ
6 so then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober.
αρα ουν μη καθευδωμεν ωσ και οι λοιποι αλλα γρηγορωμεν και νηφωμεν
7 For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.
οι γαρ καθευδοντεσ νυκτοσ καθευδουσιν και οι μεθυσκομενοι νυκτοσ μεθυουσιν
8 But since we belong to the day, let’s be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
ημεισ δε ημερασ οντεσ νηφωμεν ενδυσαμενοι θωρακα πιστεωσ και αγαπησ και περικεφαλαιαν ελπιδα σωτηριασ
9 For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
οτι ουκ εθετο ημασ ο θεοσ εισ οργην αλλ εισ περιποιησιν σωτηριασ δια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου
10 who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
του αποθανοντοσ υπερ ημων ινα ειτε γρηγορωμεν ειτε καθευδωμεν αμα συν αυτω ζησωμεν
11 Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
διο παρακαλειτε αλληλουσ και οικοδομειτε εισ τον ενα καθωσ και ποιειτε
12 But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,
ερωτωμεν δε υμασ αδελφοι ειδεναι τουσ κοπιωντασ εν υμιν και προισταμενουσ υμων εν κυριω και νουθετουντασ υμασ
13 and to respect and honor them in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
και ηγεισθαι αυτουσ υπερ εκπερισσου εν αγαπη δια το εργον αυτων ειρηνευετε εν εαυτοισ
14 We exhort you, brothers: Admonish the disorderly; encourage the faint-hearted; support the weak; be patient toward all.
παρακαλουμεν δε υμασ αδελφοι νουθετειτε τουσ ατακτουσ παραμυθεισθε τουσ ολιγοψυχουσ αντεχεσθε των ασθενων μακροθυμειτε προσ παντασ
15 See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good for one another and for all.
ορατε μη τισ κακον αντι κακου τινι αποδω αλλα παντοτε το αγαθον διωκετε και εισ αλληλουσ και εισ παντασ
16 Always rejoice.
παντοτε χαιρετε
17 Pray without ceasing.
αδιαλειπτωσ προσευχεσθε
18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.
εν παντι ευχαριστειτε τουτο γαρ θελημα θεου εν χριστω ιησου εισ υμασ
19 Don’t quench the Spirit.
το πνευμα μη σβεννυτε
20 Don’t despise prophecies.
προφητειασ μη εξουθενειτε
21 Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.
παντα δε δοκιμαζετε το καλον κατεχετε
22 Abstain from every form of evil.
απο παντοσ ειδουσ πονηρου απεχεσθε
23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
αυτοσ δε ο θεοσ τησ ειρηνησ αγιασαι υμασ ολοτελεισ και ολοκληρον υμων το πνευμα και η ψυχη και το σωμα αμεμπτωσ εν τη παρουσια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου τηρηθειη
24 He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
πιστοσ ο καλων υμασ οσ και ποιησει
25 Brothers, pray for us.
αδελφοι προσευχεσθε περι ημων
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
ασπασασθε τουσ αδελφουσ παντασ εν φιληματι αγιω
27 I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.
ορκιζω υμασ τον κυριον αναγνωσθηναι την επιστολην πασιν τοισ αγιοισ αδελφοισ
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
η χαρισ του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου μεθ υμων αμην
