1 Thessalonians 2
1 For you yourselves know, brothers, our visit to you wasn’t in vain,
Porque, hermanos, vosotros sabéis que nuestra entrada a vosotros no fue vana:
2 but having suffered before and been shamefully treated, as you know, at Philippi, we grew bold in our God to tell you the Good News of God in much conflict.
Mas aun, habiendo padecido antes, y sido afrentados en Filipos, como vosotros sabéis, tuvimos confianza en el Dios nuestro para anunciaros el evangelio de Dios en medio de grande combate.
3 For our exhortation is not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deception.
Porque nuestra exhortación no fue de error, ni de inmundicia, ni con engaño;
4 But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak—not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.
Sino que como hemos sido aprobados de Dios, para que se nos encargase el evangelio; así también hablamos, no como los que agradan a los hombres, sino a Dios, el cual prueba nuestros corazones.
5 For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery, as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is witness),
Porque nunca nos servimos de palabras lisonjeras, como vosotros sabéis, ni de pretexto de avaricia: Dios es testigo:
6 nor seeking glory from men (neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.
Ni de los hombres buscamos gloria, ni de vosotros, ni de otros; aunque podíamos seros de carga como apóstoles de Cristo.
7 But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.
Antes fuimos blandos entre vosotros como nodriza, que acaricia a sus propios hijos:
8 Even so, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not the Good News of God only, but also our own souls, because you had become very dear to us.
De manera que, teniéndoos grande afecto, quisiéramos entregaros no solo el evangelio de Dios, mas aun nuestras propias almas; por cuanto nos eráis muy caros.
9 For you remember, brothers, our labor and travail; for working night and day, that we might not burden any of you, we preached to you the Good News of God.
Porque os acordáis, hermanos, de nuestro trabajo y fatiga, que trabajando de noche y de día, por no ser gravosos a ninguno de vosotros, predicamos entre vosotros el evangelio de Dios.
10 You are witnesses with God how holy, righteously, and blamelessly we behaved ourselves toward you who believe.
Vosotros sois testigos, y Dios también, de cuán santa, y justa, y irreprensiblemente nos portábamos entre vosotros que creísteis:
11 As you know, we exhorted, comforted, and implored every one of you, as a father does his own children,
Como también sabéis, de qué manera exhortábamos y confortábamos y protestábamos a cada uno de vosotros, como un padre a sus propios hijos.
12 to the end that you should walk worthily of God, who calls you into his own Kingdom and glory.
Que anduvieseis como es digno de Dios, que os llamó a su reino y gloria.
13 For this cause we also thank God without ceasing that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, God’s word, which also works in you who believe.
Por lo cual también nosotros damos gracias a Dios sin cesar, de que en recibiendo de nosotros la palabra de Dios, la que oísteis de nosotros, la recibisteis no como palabra de hombres, mas (como a la verdad lo es) como palabra de Dios, que también obra eficazmente en vosotros los que creéis.
14 For you, brothers, became imitators of the assemblies of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jews
Porque vosotros, hermanos, habéis sido imitadores en Cristo Jesús de las iglesias de Dios que están en Judea: que habéis padecido también vosotros las mismas cosas de los de vuestra propia nación, como también ellos de los Judíos:
15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out, and don’t please God, and are contrary to all men,
Los cuales mataron así al Señor Jesús como a sus mismos profetas, y a nosotros nos han perseguido; y no son agradables a Dios, y a todos los hombres son enemigos:
16 forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.
Impidiéndonos para que no hablemos a los Gentiles a fin de que sean salvos; para henchir la medida de sus pecados siempre; porque la ira los ha alcanzado hasta el cabo.
17 But we, brothers, being bereaved of you for a short season in presence, not in heart, tried even harder to see your face with great desire,
Mas, hermanos, nosotros privados de vosotros por un poco de tiempo, de la vista, no empero del corazón, hicimos mayor diligencia, con mucho deseo, para ver vuestro rostro.
18 because we wanted to come to you—indeed, I, Paul, once and again—but Satan hindered us.
Por lo cual quisimos venir a vosotros, yo Pablo a la verdad, una vez y dos; mas nos estorbó Satanás.
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Isn’t it even you, before our Lord Jesus at his coming?
Porque ¿cuál es nuestra esperanza, o gozo, o corona de que me gloríe? ¿no lo sois pues vosotros delante del Señor nuestro Jesu Cristo en su venida?
20 For you are our glory and our joy.
Que vosotros sois en verdad nuestra gloria y gozo.
