1 Thessalonians 1

1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul, Silvain et Timothée à l'Eglise des Thessaloniciens, qui est en Dieu, le Père, et en Jésus-Christ, le Seigneur: que la grâce et la paix vous soient données!

2 We always give thanks to God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers,

Nous ne cessons de rendre grâces à Dieu pour vous tous, en faisant mention de vous dans nos prières,

3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and perseverance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father.

nous rappelant sans cesse l'oeuvre de votre foi, le labeur de votre charité et la fermeté de votre espérance en notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, devant Dieu, notre Père.

4 We know, brothers loved by God, that you are chosen,

Nous savons, frères bien-aimés de Dieu, votre élection:

5 and that our Good News came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we showed ourselves to be among you for your sake.

notre évangile, en effet, ne vous a pas été annoncé avec des paroles seulement, mais avec puissance, avec l’Esprit-Saint et avec une conviction profonde; vous savez du reste quels nous avons été parmi vous, à cause de vous;

6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

— vous-mêmes, vous avez été nos imitateurs et ceux du Seigneur, en accueillant la Parole au milieu de grandes afflictions, avec la joie que donne le Saint-Esprit,

7 so that you became an example to all who believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.

si bien que vous avez été des modèles pour tous ceux qui croient dans la Macédoine et dans l'Achaïe.

8 For from you the word of the Lord has been declared, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone out, so that we need not to say anything.

Car non seulement la parole du Seigneur a retenti de chez vous dans la Macédoine et dans l'Achaïe, mais le bruit de votre foi en Dieu s'est répandu en tout lieu, en sorte que nous n'avons pas besoin d'en parler.

9 For they themselves report concerning us what kind of a reception we had from you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,

Les gens eux-mêmes racontent ce qu'a été notre venue chez vous, comment vous vous êtes convertis à Dieu, en abandonnant les idoles pour servir le Dieu vivant et vrai,

10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead: Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.

et pour attendre des cieux son Fils qu'il a ressuscité des morts, Jésus, qui nous délivre de la colère qui va venir.
